@7777LORENZO The STINKIEST bird I smelled was a blue head pionus someone gave to Ted that hadn't been given a bath in who knows how long! Boy was it bad. I gave it a wonderful bath and then let it sit out in a Dogwood tree in the sunshine. (I made a video of it called Blue Headed Pionus. You should see how pretty it is!)

Blue parakeet? Do you mean a budgie? If you do, they are darling pets and sometimes will talk, although hard to understand. In fact, the world's record for the largest vocabulary from a talking bird is held by a budgerigar aka parakeet aka budgie.
It's always wise to get a smaller parrot such as a cockatiel or budgie first.

@monkeybananafling He has a feather chewing problem! His chest should be all green but it's gray because he chews the ends off! He was given to me with that disorder and still chews on them even though he spends most of the day on my shoulder!

@TheTnseem If you want the best talking large parrot, a Congo African Gray. I have a Yellow Naped Amazon named Gracie and she talks a lot. However, Amazons SMELL! I'm serious! Have you ever found a pair of peed pants where the pee has dried ............. like stuffed under a little kids bed? That's what they smell like! I'd get an African gray if I were you.
@TheTnseem I wouldn't buy a bird just for talking ability. If it's that important, the only way to be sure is to adopt an adult one that already talks. Otherwise, you could be disappointed. There are no guarantees. Very smart birds can be temperamental, too. To me, personality is #1. I can always talk to myself.
@phillip78 Avis was given to me. His owner, who handfed him, didn't want him anymore. I love him to death! He's three years old now. He is hilarious and sweet! I'm so, so sorry about Scooter. That's so very sad!
I love it! What I usally do is take Elvis the dancing Cockateil witch you saw him dancing to. When I try to give him a bath it does not work. So I take him in the shower with me and he just dances and sings while I am bathing! So I get entertainment! But I love how the bird was mimicing you! So cute!
@MDProductions1000 One never knows when a bird is going to take a bath. All four of my parrots try to bathe in their water dishes when I refill them but not every time. Sometimes they'll go for weeks! When Avis sees one of them taking a bath, he starts his "Did you take a bath?" routine! It's funny. I take him with me to the shower every day and he sits up above and talks to me the whole time going through his bath routine. It's cute!

He even says, "Take a, take a, take a, take a, take a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaath!" (I taught him that! Lol!) And, he says, "Avis take a bath!" I'm trying to get him to say, "Did you have a LITTLE bath?"
What has worked really well with my conure is whenever he bites me, I put him back in the cage and ignore him for at least 5 minutes. Most love out of cage time so the combination of positive training and ignoring when they bite should help.
i have the same bird but when i try to get him on my finger he bites em i have used refrences but when i try to give him a treat he will bite my fingers agian but the only time he will get up on my finger is when hes on the ground oh and by the way hes 20 years of age ik its goin to be harder to train but how can i get him to stop bitting please reply thanks
Start by using a stick to pick him up, say 'step up' and praise him tons (very exuberantly, they love bravado). A good treat to give him without you being bit is a stick of millet, let him nibble for a second and then take it away to continue training. After he is a pro at the step up and step down command, do it with your finger and praise tons when he is good.
@JhonasEnrothFan1 The reason he gets up on your finger when he is on the floor is because you are dominating it. There are parrots I won't dare stick my hand out to unless they are on the floor. That's how I started getting used to Frostie who I was really afraid of. When you put your hand in the cage, don't stick your fingers out but make a fist and put the back side of your hand towards them to see if they are going to bite or not. Using a stick can work too.

The camera is a digital camera: Canon S5 IS looks like a 35 mm camera: bulky and you can change the lenses. But, it's not that expensive. I love it!
@AlienHun1886 Thank you! I love Avis a lot. He spends a lot of time on my shoulder and will NOT tolerate my taking a shower unless he gets to sit up on the curtain rod where he asks, the entire time, "Did you have a bath?" etc.
They're beautiful birds, I miss my parrot, same breed as this one. He was a riot. Surly bugger though xD He'd fly away with fag butts and steal a lick of my Guinness foam while it was in my hand xD He fell asleep on me once feet up. So adorable.
Avis is an absolute riot. He is a little brat at times which makes him so fun! He gets really ticked off when he's on my shoulder and I'm eating a chocolate candy bar. He tries to take a bite out of it when I put it to my mouth and says, "Give! Give! Give! Give!" I have to put him on his cage and give him a cracker! He also gets ticked when I talk to the other birds and tries to hold my lips together with his beak! He HATES the squirt bottle and attacks it then bites the crap out of the trigger!
Someone just uploaded a video of those parrots on his deck rail where he was feeding them and there were a number of Blue Crown Conures in the flock. I'm not sure when he filmed it. The video is in my favorites I think.
Did you know that Avis is a parakeet? All parrots who have the long tail feathers are members of the parakeet family. Your parakeet is actually a budgerigar! This is why people call them budgies. Cockatiels are also parakeets! (I didn't know this until I started learning about parrots.)
@OnePickieChickie Thats incorrect. Parakeet does mean long tailed parrot, but that doesn't indicate that they are all members of the same family. Avis is a Blue Crown Conure, of the Aratinga conure family, and budgerigars belong to the Melopsittacus family.
You could see where 'parakeet' might be a misnomer since macaws are true parrots, but also have exceptionally long tails.
Thank you for your information. I just did some quick research and learned you are right. In the process, I also learned cockatiels are a member of the cockatoo family.
My parrot ,pearled conure is more talking when he hear the sound of the water too I think its a racial Habit..of the Psittacidea.I love their little eyes and under the wing, The colour so beautiful animal .....The parrot.... Thx for reading
My parrot is a pearled conure they are so friendly mine is 3 years old and he already do a bunch of tricks.I think that having a parrot is the best thing ever . No pet are + sociable and funny .
When he vomits is when he's feeding you because he considers you to be his mate. Yes, they are great pets. Conures are darling, affectionate little birds. Avis is sitting on my shoulder right now and spends much of his day there.

I'm laughing because Avis is a total brat! I love him dearly but he hates everyone but me! Watch my other Avis videos to get an idea of how he can be, especially "Avis Smarts Off To His Mama"! He is my constant companion and is hilarious! He laughs when I laugh, says "Ut oh!" if I or one of the other birds drops something, talks to me while I'm showering (take a bath routine) and spends most of his day sitting on my shoulder or lap. Blue Crowns can be VERY loud so you need to be VERY consistent in your training so that you don't allow your new bird to run your life! If you spoil them, you will find yourself with an obnoxious bird who "hollers" until you think it's going to fall off it's perch due to not getting it's way. I own four parrots: Frostie, Gracie, Corkie and Avis and I have to admit I love Avis the most! He is so hilarious, smart, cute, affectionate, endearing and mischevious! You are in for many years of fun!
That is amazing to hear! I'd love to get a blue crown. Luckily the bird stores in my area offer financing! If they are handled between multi people from baby to adulthood, do you think they'd learn to trust those people? or... do they decide themselves who is the one they love?
It is best to buy a handfed baby that has just been totally weened directly from a reputable breeder, not a pet store.
I would call your local chamber of commerce, pet stores, etc. to discover if their is a bird club in your area. If there is, find out when and where the meetings are and start attending. Ours meets every other month and has a raffle at each meeting where various members, according to the letter of their last name, must bring an item for the raffle.
Anyway, I won a baby lovebird years ago. It was so much fun. There, you will meet the people who supply the pet stores. You will be able to buy a baby bird much cheaper and I am certain you could find one who is willing to take payments.
He couldn't fly away. His flight feathers were trimmed flush with secondary row of flight feathers. Enter "How To Trim Flight Feathers" into a Google search. The first result is a page with drawn illustrations on how this is done. Avis can fly down but he can't get any air. It only takes about 3 weeks for all the trimmed feathers to fall out and grow back. It's nothing permanent and does not hurt the bird just like when we get a hair cut.
I'm some countries it is a crime to trim flight feathers. I think someone from Russia or Germany told me that and was appauled that my parrot's flight feathers are trimmed.
I don't know. I just got another message from the guy in Germany who scolded me for trimming Frostie's flight feathers: "You don't take the teethe out of a dog so it can't fight. Why trim the wings of your bird?"
I love Avis so much. Whenever I take him in the bath with me when I shower, he sits up top and says, "Take a bath? Did you have a bath? Avis take a bath! Take a little bath? Take a baaaaaaaaaaaath! Take a take take a take a take a bath!" It's hilarious!
This is great! Captures the personality perfectly!! I have had birds my entire life, and my blue crown -while not the most colorful or exotic- has brought me more joy than any other bird!! He is my heart! He lives in my office in an open roof cage and spends hours a day with me. He's practically perfect!!!
Blue Crown Conures are the best talkers of the Conure family of Parakeets. Yes, they are Parakeets because of the long tail feathers. So are cockatiels: Parrot: Cockatiel: Parakeet or Conure: Parrot: Parakeet. Anyway, he talks clear because I use a high pitched voice when I talk to him. They say parrots are as smart as a four year old child. He also says, "Ut oh!" when I or the birds drop something! Lol! Check out his other videos. Just search for Avis on my channel. He's funny!

@monkeybananafling He has a feather chewing problem! His chest should be all green but it's gray because he chews the ends off! He was given to me with that disorder and still chews on them even though he spends most of the day on my shoulder!

@TheTnseem If you want the best talking large parrot, a Congo African Gray. I have a Yellow Naped Amazon named Gracie and she talks a lot. However, Amazons SMELL! I'm serious! Have you ever found a pair of peed pants where the pee has dried ............. like stuffed under a little kids bed? That's what they smell like! I'd get an African gray if I were you.

@TheTnseem I wouldn't buy a bird just for talking ability. If it's that important, the only way to be sure is to adopt an adult one that already talks. Otherwise, you could be disappointed. There are no guarantees. Very smart birds can be temperamental, too. To me, personality is #1. I can always talk to myself.

I love it! What I usally do is take Elvis the dancing Cockateil witch you saw him dancing to. When I try to give him a bath it does not work. So I take him in the shower with me and he just dances and sings while I am bathing! So I get entertainment! But I love how the bird was mimicing you! So cute!

@MDProductions1000 One never knows when a bird is going to take a bath. All four of my parrots try to bathe in their water dishes when I refill them but not every time. Sometimes they'll go for weeks! When Avis sees one of them taking a bath, he starts his "Did you take a bath?" routine! It's funny. I take him with me to the shower every day and he sits up above and talks to me the whole time going through his bath routine. It's cute!

What has worked really well with my conure is whenever he bites me, I put him back in the cage and ignore him for at least 5 minutes. Most love out of cage time so the combination of positive training and ignoring when they bite should help.

i have the same bird but when i try to get him on my finger he bites em i have used refrences but when i try to give him a treat he will bite my fingers agian but the only time he will get up on my finger is when hes on the ground oh and by the way hes 20 years of age ik its goin to be harder to train but how can i get him to stop bitting please reply thanks

Start by using a stick to pick him up, say 'step up' and praise him tons (very exuberantly, they love bravado). A good treat to give him without you being bit is a stick of millet, let him nibble for a second and then take it away to continue training. After he is a pro at the step up and step down command, do it with your finger and praise tons when he is good.

@JhonasEnrothFan1 The reason he gets up on your finger when he is on the floor is because you are dominating it. There are parrots I won't dare stick my hand out to unless they are on the floor. That's how I started getting used to Frostie who I was really afraid of. When you put your hand in the cage, don't stick your fingers out but make a fist and put the back side of your hand towards them to see if they are going to bite or not. Using a stick can work too.

@madtesson The video started when I went to reply to you and of course Avis, who is sitting on my shoulder, was paying attention to the video. I put him on my finger and he was trying to bite himself on the screen! Lololololol! I'll have to check out your video.
The camera is a digital camera: Canon S5 IS looks like a 35 mm camera: bulky and you can change the lenses. But, it's not that expensive. I love it!

Avis is an absolute riot. He is a little brat at times which makes him so fun! He gets really ticked off when he's on my shoulder and I'm eating a chocolate candy bar. He tries to take a bite out of it when I put it to my mouth and says, "Give! Give! Give! Give!" I have to put him on his cage and give him a cracker! He also gets ticked when I talk to the other birds and tries to hold my lips together with his beak! He HATES the squirt bottle and attacks it then bites the crap out of the trigger!

Did you know that Avis is a parakeet? All parrots who have the long tail feathers are members of the parakeet family. Your parakeet is actually a budgerigar! This is why people call them budgies. Cockatiels are also parakeets! (I didn't know this until I started learning about parrots.)

@OnePickieChickie Thats incorrect. Parakeet does mean long tailed parrot, but that doesn't indicate that they are all members of the same family. Avis is a Blue Crown Conure, of the Aratinga conure family, and budgerigars belong to the Melopsittacus family.
You could see where 'parakeet' might be a misnomer since macaws are true parrots, but also have exceptionally long tails.

I'm laughing because Avis is a total brat! I love him dearly but he hates everyone but me! Watch my other Avis videos to get an idea of how he can be, especially "Avis Smarts Off To His Mama"! He is my constant companion and is hilarious! He laughs when I laugh, says "Ut oh!" if I or one of the other birds drops something, talks to me while I'm showering (take a bath routine) and spends most of his day sitting on my shoulder or lap. Blue Crowns can be VERY loud so you need to be VERY consistent in your training so that you don't allow your new bird to run your life! If you spoil them, you will find yourself with an obnoxious bird who "hollers" until you think it's going to fall off it's perch due to not getting it's way. I own four parrots: Frostie, Gracie, Corkie and Avis and I have to admit I love Avis the most! He is so hilarious, smart, cute, affectionate, endearing and mischevious! You are in for many years of fun!

That is amazing to hear! I'd love to get a blue crown. Luckily the bird stores in my area offer financing! If they are handled between multi people from baby to adulthood, do you think they'd learn to trust those people? or... do they decide themselves who is the one they love?

It is best to buy a handfed baby that has just been totally weened directly from a reputable breeder, not a pet store.
I would call your local chamber of commerce, pet stores, etc. to discover if their is a bird club in your area. If there is, find out when and where the meetings are and start attending. Ours meets every other month and has a raffle at each meeting where various members, according to the letter of their last name, must bring an item for the raffle.

He couldn't fly away. His flight feathers were trimmed flush with secondary row of flight feathers. Enter "How To Trim Flight Feathers" into a Google search. The first result is a page with drawn illustrations on how this is done. Avis can fly down but he can't get any air. It only takes about 3 weeks for all the trimmed feathers to fall out and grow back. It's nothing permanent and does not hurt the bird just like when we get a hair cut.

I'm some countries it is a crime to trim flight feathers. I think someone from Russia or Germany told me that and was appauled that my parrot's flight feathers are trimmed.

Blue Crown Conures are the best talkers of the Conure family of Parakeets. Yes, they are Parakeets because of the long tail feathers. So are cockatiels: Parrot: Cockatiel: Parakeet or Conure: Parrot: Parakeet. Anyway, he talks clear because I use a high pitched voice when I talk to him. They say parrots are as smart as a four year old child. He also says, "Ut oh!" when I or the birds drop something! Lol! Check out his other videos. Just search for Avis on my channel. He's funny!
