@schacky i dont despise the mainstream but when it comes to black metal just no. look at all the mainstream black metal bands nowadays. immortal, dimmu, satyricon. all pretty good. but no longer black metal because they changed their sound. generally for a black metal band to become mainstream they have to include other influences, (immortal added thrash, dimmu added synth ect) and embrace hi fi production and hence loose all their atmosphere

@morbideddie Wait Thrash was Black Metal's main influence from the begining so is only write that black metal stay to their roots of Speed, Thrash, and Early Hardcore punk. Those First Wave bands like Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, Bathory, (Early) Sodom, BullDozzer, (Early) Kreator/Tormentor, Sabbat, etc... So Immortal added thrash but used it in the way that it don't sound like Black Metal anymore. But that type of stuff to me is an insult to Black Metal.

@666deathghost it had its roots there but they're massively different genres in terms of atmosphere and feel. at the end of the day they're separate genres, so adding more thrash so little black remains does make it less black metal, more thrash metal. listen to their latest album and tell me it wasn't blackened thrash. i don't wanna get into a genre debate and i love immortals career all the way through but they lost all their evil atmosphere.
