  • I need something without taking it apart

  • @yasinsevik11 push xy and start for 3 sec to reset the controller or hold the joystick in the middle when turning on the system is a temporary fix

  • I dont have a triangle screwdrive wiil it work if I use a philip scewdrive to take it apart?

  • @Siz2inc kick ass tip, fixed up my broken c stick which does nothing but go right :D

  • i did this to my joystick and it screwed it up even more, sorry but it didn't work for me

  • where did u got your petrolium jelly?

  • I unplug the controller and move the joystick around clockwise or counter clockwise rapidly with the palm of my hand, then plug it b ack it. Works everytime for all controllers.

  • or you can just push xy and start for 3 sec to reset the controller. lol

  • @Siz2inc that's only a temporary fix ... lol

  • Well, the time I tried one month ago (comment below) ended up ruining my controller completely. I either used too much glue or the petroleum jelly was long past expired and didn't work that well. But I gave this another shot today with a different controller and it now works like a charm. Thanks again, anythinggoesjoe.

  • I just did this and I'm now waiting for the 10-15 minute dry period. Whether it ends up working or not (I doubt my own ability to do everything correctly), thanks for the tutorial.

  • you got a video on fixing the c-stick or replacing it

  • @kunckles213 awhile back someone commented that they had this problem with the C stick so he tried this on the C stick and fixed it , as far as replacing parts no i don't talk about replacing any parts

  • @anythinggoesjoe well my c-stick completely don't work(no response), so I just wanted to know of ways of fixing that.

  • @kunckles213 if it completely doesn't work then i dont think this will help it but if your gonna throwout the controller then i guess you have nothing to lose

  • its weird\i was in the middle of playing loz oc of time on my wii then the joystick broke not completely broke its that i cant move forward is it the game cauze i downloaded it or is it just the joystick will it work if i do this?

  • @MyCupKake123 Try a different game & a different controller port like 2,3 or 4 and if you can't still move forward then its the controller. If it is the controller then try holding the analog stick and pooping it up then back down ( maybe it got jammed ) still don't work try Temporary fixes like ("Holding down the X, Y,and start buttons for three seconds this resets the controller") or ("Hold the analog stick in the center while turning on the system") Still not working then follow my video

  • @anythinggoesjoe well i tried evry step of youre vid its still not workin besides i cant buy a new cont and no one that i know has a controller is there anythign else i culd try

  • @MyCupKake123 So it just stop working. This is the 1st time i have ever heard of something like this and if you said you tired all of my suggestions plus followed my video step by step then im not sure i can help you. The last things you can try before giving up on the controller are testing the controller on a different system like a gamecube of another Wii or you can do some research and try to find people who experience the same problems you are having and see if there is a fix , good luck

  • After seeing you pull off the joystick, I went ahead and tried it. Some gunk had accumulated over time. I cleaned it off and put it back together. Controller fixed.

  • how did you use the scissors to open the pad' i can fix it easily i've dealt with pads/psp's and other such things, i just cant get the bloody pad open lol

  • @hodgeyization well i have a Triwing Y Screwdriver now , it comes in handy since this can open most Nintendo Products but i used very thin & small scissors that would fit just inside the y screw just enough to turn it but i stop doing this and had to buy a Triwing Y screwdriver because the scissors would ware & saw down the screw, damaging it.

  • @anythinggoesjoe thank you i know this reply is very late (forgot my password and couldnt be bothered to sort it) but you took the time to help so ill take the time to say thank you.

Also i borrowed a pad from a friend in the end and i have since re-completed LOZ: Wind Waker (best yet if you ask me) i have a bad temper and ended up opening the pad up in a very special way of my own.

  • @hodgeyization no problem, happy to help as much as i can and its good to know things worked out in the end

  • how about the R button? my wavebird's R button is broken and i tried fixing it but it doesnt seem that the soldered connections are even working when i touch them both with a screwdriver.

  • @lavaxtris1 no sorry im not to sure about the R and L fix

  • 0:28 - 0:41 did anybody notice it say taqk? I its pronounced take.

  • Alright. I tried it 3 times. Still wouldn't work. Even worse, going up on the joystick is much harder now than ever.

I said fuck it an started using another controller.

It's funny. Going down was much better though, cause that was messed up prior. Weird. It works for a while, then I have to reset it just to get it working again.

I guess it was half a success. Maybe I just play too many games that require you to press up now. Like Resident Evil

  • @Neofcon well im sorry it didn't work out but dont give up there are many videos on youtube on how to fix a gamecube controller. my video was to fix the left and right movement of the joystick you have an up movement problem maybe someone has a video for that

  • @anythinggoesjoe It's ok. It fixed SOMETHING at least. The Down movement. That's more than most vids.

  • Will this work with any super glue (like one stick adhesive) or just krazy glue?

  • @Neofcon im sure it could work with other types of glue but the only one i use is krazy glue

  • @anythinggoesjoe Well, I tried it. It almost worked. There's some slight drifting when I'm pressing up still.

Though I noticed that the stick was really dirty. How much vaseline/glue did you use?

  • @Neofcon well i think its a use as much as you need for the job kind of thing . Remember the Vaseline is just there to counter the glue from taking full effect you just in it to harden where the analog stick wearied out and is making it move around

  • @anythinggoesjoe I assume the left/right sides of the box are the ones for up/down movements?

Sorry, just a total fuckwit when it comes to hardware repair.

  • @Neofcon Do you put vaselines/glue on the black box arts as well?

  • @Neofcon no i don't touch those as seen in the video

  • @anythinggoesjoe But you put vaseline on the black parts.

Or do you mean no glue?

  • @Neofcon yeah, if u put krazy glue in there the analog stick will probably never move again lol

  • what if your wire from the inside is poping out

  • I tried but it broke my controller completly :/

  • @TheCatOfNimes completely ? no way if all of the buttons stop working you may have damaged the circuit board not the analog stick

  • @anythinggoesjoe Naw the buttons are working but the analog stick isnt,, :but i personally think it was my own stupidity that broke it XD ! Insteead of theat jelly stuff i didnt have any so i used olive oil XD and i didnt have krazy glue so i thought "HEY! Maybe eyelash glue will work" but erm... yeah it doesnt work... ahha

    *fail*

  • @TheCatOfNimes i wouldn't say it was a stupid thing to do. someone commented that they used Vegetable Oil, and it Worked so im not really sure why your controller stopped working. By the way i saw your video and you said your getting a new one but if you really want to fix that controller for any reason i say try to undo whatever you did , maybe you pop the analog stick out of the board and maybe that's why its not working ?

  • @anythinggoesjoe Yeah ill just open it up again today or whenever i get glue XD the try it out >w<

thank you! I have 2 more (one of which i cant find ;[), but the other one thats analong stick works the C stick doesnt work ;[

  • you dontneed to do that hust press x and y and start for 3 seconds it will say that in the instruction manual

  • hehehe, joystick :D

  • Also, my controller is having trouble going up and down on the analog stick. Is it necessary for me to open the controller or is there another way to fix this?

  • For some reason i'm having troubles simply opening the contolling up because the screws appear to be wearing away by the screw driver as i'm trying to take them out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • whats up bro im having a problem with my gamecube controllers. the A button dont work. it work but we need to press it hard or a lot of time so it could work. do you know or anybody what the problem coudl be ? please somebody help me.

  • @hawk362 this happens a lot ,its common something got jammed under the button could be anything really the only way to really find out is to open the controller and take a look i think its the rubber padding under the A button that may have gotten out of place

  • Hey, I used the Vegitable Oil, and it Works, Thanks you so much.

  • ok when preforming this, my GameCube Controller is Orange. it's little Joy Stick thing was Black instead of white, Would you also consider that with the Silver Game Cube Controler?

  • @RyanKenny59 color wouldn't make a difference this works with all official nintendo GC controllers

  • HELP ME! I put too much glue and now the analog stick isn't working anymore! :( :( :( There is something that I can do?

  • @welctoj not working anymore ? what kind of glue are you using ?

  • @anythinggoesjoe krazy glue... i put too much, the left analog stick doesn't work anymore... there's no signal. there's something that i can do for fixing it? :(

  • @anythinggoesjoe krazy glue... i put too much, the left analog stick doesn't work anymore... there's no signal. there's something that i can do for fixing it? :( the glue leaked down, i guess...

  • @welctoj not sure whats happening to your controller this is the 1st time i heard of a controller doing that. I would say to let glue dry and try to remove it by hand, Is this a wireless or 3rd party controller ?

  • @anythinggoesjoe It's 3rd party... but I put too much glue :( there's any way to remove that square and remove the glue by hand?

  • How does one get the controller opened? I don't seem to have a the screwdriver for it, and my scissors ain't working? What now?

  • My Gamecubes Disk Tray Won't Close Sometimes. The Button Is Pressed In All The Way Broken In. Is That An Easy Fix.

  • I Was Just Playing SSBM and Said WTF The Hands Moving By Itself.

  • have any of you tryed to reset the controller?

  • You my friend are a genus. I have a few questions though. Will it work if I gently use vegetable oil instead of vaseline. also is there any other substance other than sticky glue? I don't have any, or vaseline. cause I may try it, if it dosn't work, than I'm probably going to sell my controler and get a new one.

  • @RyanKenny59 i don't recommend using vegetable oil, things i used in the video are things i know that work and are very inexpensive anything else is taking a risk of damaging your controller. In the end its your call if you want to take that risk.

  • @anythinggoesjoe Alright, I'll take your advice, I'll have to wait till I get the materials. Thank you.

  • Get a clean toothbrush (no toothpaste) and a cup of warm tap water (not too hot). Do NOT pour or submerge the Controller in any type of liquid.

Slightly dip the toothbrush in the water (the toothbrush should not be dripping wet) and scrub the area of the Controller around the buttons and control stick.

Work the bristles down around the sides of the buttons.

After cleaning the Controller, dry it off with a paper towel.

Let the Controller air dry for at least a couple of hours.

  • will this work for a gamestop controller?

  • @Cptfalcon54 mmmm not too sure never opened up a 3rd party controller cuz i dont buy them but if you feel like you got nothing to lose sure go for it but if you dont want to risk destroying the controller , dont

  • I have a problem with my controller where when I hold the stick down or up, it has a tendency to move to the left a bit. It doesn't move at all in the neutral position or anything, but holding straight to the left or right makes it go just slightly upward, and holding straight or up or down makes it go slightly left. Will this solve this problem also?

  • @aCrzyJya i say theirs a 90% chance this will fix your controller problem

  • @anythinggoesjoe Alright. I guess I'll try it out then. Thank you for the reply.

  • what the heck pelican game brick easly mine broke to lets sue them

  • will this work if the joy stick is broken in a way that the joy stick is loose?

  • when i play ssbb the joystick doesnt move up it is very hard please help!!!

  • the white joy stick keeps moving or stopping when i play something like sonic dx

  • does this work the same with "The Pelican" gamecube controller?

  • how'd you find this fixing in the GC Controller?

  • HOW DO YOU DO THIS? my controller is the pelicon controller but some how the red wire broke do you know how to replace wires?

  • Please Reply, I CAN'T OPEN THE DANG THING ITS MISSION IMPOSSIBLE!!!!

    pLz HeLp mE!!!

  • @KillerwithaHeart buy a :Silverhill Triwing Y Screwdriver" at amazon or ebay its what i use and works great and if you dont want to buy online go to almost any hardware store and ask for a Triwing Y Screwdriver or if you dont want to go outside use something around the house small or thin enough to turn the screw

  • Hi,

I've seen the video. But thera are so many types of Krazy Glue (Power Glue, Super Glue, Gel, etc.). Is there any specific purpose for which the glue was meant Or can you give the name of the Krazy Glue?

Because we are living in Holland, we have to find the right type of glue.

  • @supervisors100 im looking back at the name and its titled Instant Krazy Glue

  • 8:31 My controller is pretty much always like that now. I haven't tried opening it up to fix it yet. I can get it to recenter, but it reverts back to having no resistance if I try moving it. I'm probably going to try opening it. I'm just looking around YouTube to see if anyone has any advice before I actually do it. I think my control stick is more broken than yours was. Do you know if this method would still work? If not, do you have any idea what I can do?

  • @bnugentkarate there are some different methods on fixing the joystick without opening it up like pulling the joystick out or holding it still in the middle before turning the system on. These can work but its only temporary fix. Yes, this method should work on every Nintendo gamecube controller

  • @anythinggoesjoe I don't have a problem with the sync between the control stick and what appears on screen. Looking at the screen, it does everything it is supposed to do. The actual joystick has lost almost all signs of having any spring to it. It just lays lopsided by default. I did use it for playing Smash Bros. for a while, so that could be what caused this.

  • @anythinggoesjoe One other question that almost anyone can try to answer. How can I unscrew these stupid screws on the controller? I went to a local hardware store that has mechanical stuff that Lowe's or Home Depot would never have. They didn't even recognize the shape of the screw. Basically, where specifically can I buy one of these? I would prefer to not buy it online, but I doubt that's possible. If I can't buy it, is there another way of getting the screws off?

  • @bnugentkarate well the ideal place to get the screw driver would be online Or maybe a Home Depot or a small tool shop like a local locksmith store. Its called a "Silverhill Triwing Y Screwdriver" its the one i use and its not only used for a Nintendo gamecube controller but most Nintendo Products

  • @anythinggoesjoe I actually found a place with a screwdriver bit that can fit the Nintendo screw. It's called a "Security Bit." The only problem is that the one I found wasn't long enough to reach the deeper screws (near the handles, etc.).

  • @bnugentkarate me too dude looking for alota gelp before i start

  • Super Glue...Only problem I have with that is that I only have a matter of 10 seconds before the glue dries, that's a problem?

  • I cant open my controll

  • i used to much Vaseline on 3:37 now it won't move

  • i killed my controller it can't go up now :(

  • @coolsmile1234557689 if u added to much just open it up clean it out and start again

  • i think it helped a little because it's not wabbley but it still barely has any play to it when i move up. i might need to add more glue i don't no what do u think

  • @coolsmile1234557689 well this video was made to fix controllers that would move left or right im not sure about up and down but if u think adding more crazy clue will help i say go for it but be careful not to add to much, to a point where you cant even move the joystick

  • mine looks a little different 2:18 my joystick thing is not white its black 2:20 the white oval looking thing is not horizontal it's vertical

  • thanx

  • at 8:29 it looks like the joystick is not going back to the center will that fix if i keep moving it do i still need the vaseline to fix the wabbleing joystick? and would any Vaseline would do?

  • @coolsmile1234557689 i've been asked this question before and im not sure if any Vaseline would work and if you read the little text box that shows up in 8:29 it says that the joystick is hard at 1st but it will return to normal just keep moving it around , You should be fine just go for it

  • at 8:29 it looks like the joystick is not going back to the center will that fix if i keep moving it do i still need the vaseline to fix the wabbleing joystick? and would any Vaseline would do?

  • Comment removed

  • mine spins around not on the game but the joystick is like a top that you play with and it wont work on pikmin or anything

  • my only problem is when im trying to run on a game going forward,it makes me walk.

i dont know whats going on so if anyone can help i'd be thankful

  • thx sooo much my baby cousins broke the dang controler so i didnt know what to do so i used a hammer and tried to fix it physically O.O

  • yah that happened to me with a black controller O_O when i was little i took that controller and smashed it on the floor whenever i lost 2p with my brother lol now it died ._. so i got a new won :D

  • Yes, my black Nintendo Gamecube controller's control stick is not in the neutral position. It is in the up-left position on the stick, and I don't know how to push it back onto its regular (neutral) position and keep it there. I don't want to try this method--no offense; I don't want to mess up my controller if I do something incorrectly. Do you have any other methods that will solve my problem? =) Please reply. I thank you for listening. =)

  • So I just tried this on a really bad stick on one of my controllers. I waited about 20-25 minutes because it didn't seem to be drying. I started to reassemble the controller once the stick appeared to be dry, but as soon as I put the actually stick on the white peg, the glue came undone and so it ended up exactly the same, except a giant mess. I am going to attempt this again, but this time using more glue. Any tips on how much of each to use? Also, was this a guess, or do you know the chemistry

  • yeah try adding more and make sure u have all the right items i have in the video

  • I have all the stuff from the video. Its just hard with the resolution to see how much of the stuff you are putting on the controller. I did it a second time and functionality is improved, but its not completely remedied. I'll make a video response later when I have time.

  • Tried it again on a different controller - problem was definitely too much vaseline. This one works much better!

  • so anythinggoesjoe can u make a vid about how to get the A button to work plz i want to play my super smash bros melee again so again plz help.

  • Believe me this isn't hard to do. The hardest part would be opening the controller lol just go for it the controller is already broken u have nothing to lose. Just remember where all the pieces go when putting the controller back

  • how do u fix a gamecube remote because my A button doesnt work. someo plzs help.

  • if i were i would open the controller and see whats wrong under the A button i could be out of place

  • @gamefreak561 to fix the A button.. clean the contact .. the part of the button that touches the chip

  • how do you open the controller?

  • Does this tutorial fix a loose gamecube joy stick?

  • @gameglitcher4 yep

  • thankz. now all i need is some glue

  • you meant worn out not were'd out :l

  • is there supposed to be audio? i had two controllers they both do this. Im planning to try this out. My other is well....I smashed the damn thing with a hammer cause it had a major drifting problem

  • let me no any other glues that i can use

  • i don't have to take the whole joystick thing off to fix the wobble? in this tutorial the guy says to take it off.

Fixing a Gamecube controller analog stick - PART 1

  • wow i just watch that video and his way is much harder. no one should do what the guy in that video is doing. To fix the wobble in the joystick just do what i do in the video between 5:11 and 7:26

  • My video is meant as a complete reconditioning of the controller. Glue will only do so much, I've used some controllers that had enough plastic worn that just some glue wouldn't help them at all.

  • I'll Vouch for this guy, and his video.

Much better and more permanant solution.

I've actually taken apart the analog component, and brushed on more plastic on the locations where it had worn down.

Even that is nothing compared to just replacing or switching out the component.

  • Cheers!

  • i don't have that glue so is there another glue i could use that would work just as good

  • well its only like 2 dollars but one comment in here was talking about using superglue but he or she never commented back if it worked or not

  • how do i fix a wabbly gamecube joysyick ps i don't want to use the c stick to fix it

  • thats what the crazy glue was for

  • if it's just as strong as crazy glue than it should work but if it's stronger than just be careful

  • Heya. I just noticed that your last message states that this method doesn't work on the platinum wired controller. I'm currently having this problem with my Wavebird controller. Does your method work for fixing this?

  • it should

  • Great. I'll let you know how I go.

  • If scissors don't work to open the controller, the correct tool is called a triwing screwdriver. They are going for $1.00 on ebay +21 cents shipping. Haven't bought one yet so I don't know if it's the correct size for sure.

  • or you coul buy a gamecube controller on ebay for just about the same price....

  • I had this happen to the c-stick on the controller that came with the system. Finally now I can fix it after buying 3 other aftermarket and used contollers that suck. It would be nice if he could spell correctly and use proper grammer. It makes it easier to understand what he is trying to convey since there is no audio.

  • help i have the same prob with my c stick

  • Would this work on a GC controller that wont tilt up in games.... :/ moving up is hard (when i push up the joystick) the controller still workin, but I cannot play Legend of Zelda or Metal Gear...

  • i had this problem on my first controller that came with my game cube. The problem with my controller was that it toke long to go up, for example in the video im playing smash bros brawl do you see the hand icon you control to pick a character with. My first controller would take long to go from the bottom of the screen to the top. Do you have this problem or when you say "moving up is hard" do you mean you have to push the joystick up hard to go up ?

  • Is the same problem, but now going up, or down have problems

  • If it moves up or down by it self than this should work

  • Then i'm gonna try it, wish me luck.

    Thanks

  • this can be normal wear and tear how long have you had the controller ? this happens when you are pressing the L or R a little to hard i would say to try cleaning around the trigger if this does not work stop using the broken trigger for awhile if it still does not work u may have to open the controller to see if any thing is out or coming out of place

  • today my gamecube controller was working perfectly.3 hours later it moves by its self so I thought it was a virus I did everything but i haven't tooken apart yet any info

  • their are two ways in fixing this problem that i know of one is this way what im doing in the video the other way is to pull the joy stick out of its sockets keep pulling on it until you hear a click. this is only a temporary fix it will soon go back to moving by it's self.

if you want a permanent fix just do want i do in the video .

  • how did u open the d**n thing up?

  • i used the tip of the scissors to open the controller

  • and how do you do that?

  • By putting the tip of the scissor into the srew and than turning the scissor thus turning the srew

  • tnx i fixed it by blowing on it, i guess it was overworked cause it was sliding

  • Hey, try holding X+Y+Start for 10 seconds (make sure not to move the joystick during this time). You should know it works because in Melee for example if you're in multiplayer on the character select screen the game thinks you temporarily disconnected the controller and jumps you to a CPU character. Afterwards the joystick should point neutral.

  • 'scuse me, what the hell are the 2 sliders next to the middle rumble motor, when i took mine apart mine were almost all the way up, bout to test it out.

  • you talking about the R and L buttons sliders

  • possibly, what do they do, and what position should they be in.

  • i would just just leave it alone if i was u

  • lol, kthx4advice I movedem all around and made 1 up and 1 down then sealeder up with super glue

  • oh and will Cetaphil work instead of Vaseline it still has petrolium in it

  • i dont know if u can use cetaphil and if u have small scissors like about the size i have in the video than u can use it to turn the screw in the controller

  • how do u use scissors to open the controller?

  • all 3 of my controllers end up permanantley drifting even when I pres Y,X, and start! I HATE gamecube controllers!!!!!!! SCREW EM ALL TO HELL!

  • u can fix all 3 if u want to if u do what i did in the video

  • Too late. I ripped one of the 3's wires and I smashed the other with a hammer :D. But since my newest one broke yesterday I decided to try the one I didnt smash and it works now. But if it acts upp i'll try this.

  • all i have todo is reset the system when that happens, is this one doing it constantly? or just every now and then?

  • I have a controller with the same problem, basically resetting the system does not fix anything. The problem is, I can't even manage to OPEN the controller...

  • why do you have to use krazy glue?, i think using just vaseline can solve my problem. Am I right? I just wanna know why do you use krazy glue
