@chocolatelover761 horses do sleep standing up but when they go into a deep sleep or are relaxed they go down. But if a horse wont get up it might have colic so its best to make sure a horse that is down will get up.

My mare did the same thing when she was in her last trimester of her pregnancy. She slept so heavily and snored so loud, I could go up to her and call her by her name and she still would be asleep. Learned to not touch her though...never seen a fat pregnant mare get up so loud, haul butt, stop and turned at me and snorted. I wasn't on her "nice" list for awhile. They are so stinkin cute when they are laying down having a snooze!

WormClark - if you watch closely you'll notice the Loop's ears prick up to the direction of her coming long before she actually calls out his name. So he's definitely NOT about to have a heart attack!! If it was going to be a frightful situation the other horses would have reacted long before she got within ear shot of Loop :)
