As usually, the Discovery Channel have taken the easiest path. Transporting ripe plums from Spain to Holland is easy. Try delivering bananas from South America to Siberia. Now THAT is a tough job! But Discovery will never shoot it (unlike, for example, BBC) because it's... DIFFICULT.
Someone asked me, if you were going to build a ship like the ships in the movie 2012, how would you build them. I said to him, i would use a steel called Q460 and 5 inches thick all around top and bottom with extra beams and a real thick keel. Q460 steel is very strong indeed, use by the navy to strengthen the sides of navy ships agains torpedos. The weight of the ship should be around 600.000 tonnes and should be able to cater for 15.000 souls. Where to build it, well that's another matter.
@macktheknife888 Odense Steel shipyard in Denmark is said to be tha biggest shipyard in the world.8 sisters of Maersk where built there. But i think even this couldn't build it. If something like 2012 happens..God have mercy on our souls :)
500-foot propeller shaft... the ones in M/S TransPulp and its sister ships are not far from it since the ships are 190 meters (623 ft) long and the engine room is in the front. They are probably shorter than this though, around 400 foot, but still quite long when compared to the majority of ships.
At last a good documentary which shows that fruits are not grown in the supermarket but are brought there mostly by ships. Without ships, forget the world trade and economy...

Is it only two parts?

For the ship... Yes. There was another part to the show but it had nothing to do with ships.
