It would appear that some people that have replied do not understand the meaning of "change Self". It would appear they assume you mean to "conform to others" which is incorrect. Perhaps saying "master Self" would be more appropriate? And of course, if one has not mastered Self, they surely will not easily effect change outside of Self.

A person who is continually victimized, as we all are in a way, must do something... find their own way to avoid being abused. Is it the gay person's fault that he is victimized? No. Is it my fault that the universe victimizes me? No. But I'm not going to criticize the world for not appreciating me. I'm going to do something about it by altering my own being. Much later, a person can affect outer change.

I don't want anyone to change their essence, core being, or True Self in order to blend in so the universe and all its puppets leave one alone. But if you want to change the world, then it must start with self-change. Any guru, spiritual guide, or esoteric teacher will tell you that.

@TheIchor Well, I think there has to be a separation between 'fact' and 'fiction', good friend. Is your/one's psychology being shaped by your journey or particular belief system? Is it one you have firm faith in? Will it have benefit for other people, in that we have to interact with others? Is this an ethical religion? These kind of questions. Are you open to attack for your beliefs? Do you value other belief systems. These are wide ranging questions. How does the human work in all this.

Good point, ActionBastard85. Work on yourself, but don't wait for some idealized perfection before manifesting your efforts. Small steps over and over. Incremental progression. That is the Left Hand Path. Slow but steady growth starting with the individual and eventually spreading throughout "reality".
