It is assumed that it was a pizza in the kitchen that caught fire, a con goer saw smoke. Panicked thinking it was something worse and pulled the alarm
Apparently (not sure if its true) one of the staff members pulled it cause they wanted to see how fast they could clear out the convention center?
I dunno, but it was kinda fun watching the street fill with Otaku.
I was at California Tortilla when we saw a bunch of people leaving the con. We just thought it was a photoshoot outside or something and then we heard sirens...
@DaedalEVE I don't know, I just heard alot of people saying that. I didn't exactly believe it completely since I'd heard a whole bunch of different stories too. I was just saying one of the things I'd heard.
It's not really a possible felony, it is one. Only problem is it'd be kinda hard to catch who did it. It's kinda like "I saw who did it!... They were wearing a wig... and a weird costume..." That would really narrow it down. XD
No it really is a POTENTIAL felony. You see, pulling a fire alarm is a misdemeanor in and of itself, however if there is a secondary event... ie: someone gets trampled to death during the evacuation, then it may be pursued as a felony case.
@DaedalEVE Sorry, I was a bit mistaken. I've gotten so used to hearing about people getting arrested for pulling fire alarms (my dad is a firefighter and a friend of mine's dad is a cop) that I forgot that they were only arrested because of a secondary event. Thank you for correcting me.
Asshat pulls fire alarm. Chaos ensues. Now all someone needs to do is figure out a way to profit from this and it'd be perfect! I SURVIVED THE 2010 OTAKON FIRE! lmao
And an unsuspecting downtown Baltimore is swarmed by over 20,000 otaku...

Exactly why would you think that was true? If anyone on staff did that, they would be gone and charges would be pressed. It's that simple.
This has happened in the past, and in the past is was always someone in attendance who thought it would be funny to commit a POSSIBLE felony.

The only reason I knew is because I was a first responder for a number of years.
