  • Trance..trance...trance....omg!!

  • I don't cry at much, music is really the only thing that makes me... VnV nation, this song, as it fades, and beloved are a few that make me cry. This one, is out of sheer, sheer sadness...

  • People are seriously missing out on this band, vnv nation has multiple songs that are just freckin awesome.

  • I want to make intense passionate love with someone I hate, to this song.

  • @HeatherNShea I hate you with a burning passion...

  • First VNV song i ever heard... the background music of a crappy animation someone made for a computer class. took more than a year to finally find the title of the song, and even longer to discover more VNV songs. Now they're my favorite band.

    Yay for crappy animations!

  • the ingenuity and sheer perfection of this band cannot be conveyed by the words of a simpleton such as myself

  • Probably my favourite song on the album, and my favourite VNV album to boot. Except the Futureperfect font had me thinking this song was named "Cargon" for a while...

  • we cut the earth until it bleeds..

    we kill everything.....:(

  • wow, amazing song.

  • This was the song that I fell in love with and prompted me to find all I could by them.

  • I love music like this, different from mainstream by the way the sounds create such power and connection; very hard to explain. That is why I love music. I picture being the last person alive in this world.

  • Wow, I'm just speechless, I can't really find the words to convey my emotions right now. I literally discovered VNV Nation less than 10 minutes ago and I am blown away from what I've heard so far. These are beautiful songs full of so much emotion, I have no complaints. I could listen to this song for hours and it wouldn't lose it's meaning to me.

  • This song reminds me of the Fallout games.

  • So amazing

  • This song is so sexy ...and even better to fuck to ...hot !

  • One of their most finely crafted tracks. It just paints a perfect image.

  • In a word: Powerful.

This sums up everything VNV is.

  • This was the last great album they made. I don't know what happened to VNV Nation but they are nowhere near as good as they were. Out of all the albums they made since then there's like 3 songs from them that are even decent. And they've never even come close to making something as good as Empires.

  • just when i thought i ran out of vnv songs to obsess over.. i go and listen to this :)

  • everytime i hear this song louder and louder!!!!!!!!!

  • i have a picture in my mind:

it's a cold starry night and you can see flak all over the dark sky...

  • Ronin displays so much emotion and observation in everyone of his songs, he is brilliant in every meaning of the word. It's a shame he isn't more publicly known, it's actually a loss.

  • @loriancrane Music like VNV only appeals to certain people. You need to really listen to it to get his message, and he actually sings about things that matter, rather then women, sex, cars, or whatever idiotic materialistic crap the mainstream music sings about. I am glad he isn't well known.

  • Love this song powerful and dark

  • Is it wrong of me to love VNV Nation as much as I do. Honestly, there must be something wrong, If I could hump sound, I would.

  • @LustxFilledxEyesx13 Not if I'm humping it first...haha

  • @LustxFilledxEyesx13 This is going to sound weird, and I'm going to regret saying this, but: Hump the subwoofer. There's a lot of bass in this song, so that's a plus.

  • Six republicans have disliked this video.

  • *click click click click click click click click* like! >.<

  • they write music about things that the wisest person on earth doesn't know... and people listen to the music for meaning in something we can't understand. they are prophets in a sense.

  • I love the beat in this track. A smooth, heavy, dark beat that really empowers the mood.

  • Man I love this song!!!

  • VNV Nation is deff by far one of my favourite bands I love VNV Nation so much

  • VNV Nation is officially my favorite band. <3

Deep meaning behind the words. It's calming.

    The music fits perfectly.

It opens up my mind, heart, and soul.

To the darkest depths.. and to the lightest spots.

It fills me with so much beauty... I cry.

  • @KisaxVamp127 those words are like light in the darkness........ simply beautiful....

  • I think this about emptyness and lack of faith..!

  • tears start flowing down my cheeks when I hear the intro. all I need is the slow beat and it makes me think of no longer exisiting and noone other than my daughter remembering me when i die. and when she dies noone will know i ever exsisted

  • I think this song reminds me of Warfare and Mankind then Climate change. Im not saying it does'nt revolve around Climate Change, It probably does but some of the lyrics does relate to Warfare, Just my opinion of course.

  • i agree with most of you..it's amazing and eerie. i love what spierler80s said. :) it's just really good music that friggin moves me sooooo much. i love it.

  • The beat is very hypnotic...the lyrics are very thoughtful as well...

  • My favorite song ever by VNV

  • Realy nice song but... Isnt it a bit slow?

  • What inspires in us this madness !?!

  • i love this song

  • this is humanity in a nutshell..

makes me cry every time. i love it so much..

  • vnv nation :>

  • i like it, too...

  • The cool thing about vnv nation is their music.

I think the lead singer matches other songs good, but not this one.

  • love vnv

  • Tt's so easy to lose yourself in this song. The lyrics and the music suck you in and don't let go.

  • what a song :)

  • One of my favorites off the album. I usually dismiss the softer VNV stuff, but I dig this.

  • I wouldn't describe this song as deep, it seems very fatalistic and very melodic, which leads you to think about it - but the message is things I hear my sister moan about while applying black nail-polish and describing how different she is while following her own little cloud. I find I listen to this song but all it does is make my mind rebel from it's message.

    It's still pretty.

  • @Erynnsilver I totally agree. I love the song, I think it's very beautiful, and listening to it puts me in quite a state of mind. But the lyrics lack a bit, just because well, yeah, it's nothing revolutionary, and kind of lacks in metaphorical speech. But it's still a wonderful song to listen to.

  • @frailwinter You know, not every lyric has to be an idiom. They get the message across bluntly, I think that was the point.

  • @Erynnsilver

Each to their own I guess, but I think the damage we're doing to the planet with our endless thirst for technology, cheap travel and abundant food is a serious issue. Cheers.

  • @Cazzerpot It will take less than 50 years, should all humanity disapear, for msot traces of us to follow. It will take about 200 for any noticable effect from us being here to be compeltely gone... so no, it's not a huge issue for the planet. Maybe for us. And even then, technology often fixes what misuse of technology causes. Our understanding improves and with it, our ability to negate our damage. Shunning technology does NOT make us less harmful - evidence of that is everywhere.

  • This song is so deep :)

  • its not madness, its experience things need to be experienced you can try and label it if you like but I know its just a label for a thing things are often very different to their labels as humans, we must label. the problem is not with the thing but with your label. in fact there is no problem at all, just labels anyone with me on this? fascinating read Viktor Frankl - Man's Search for Meaning read it.

  • The environmental view is certainly an aspect. For me, it's a bit deeper than that. Less about what we're destroying or -that- we're destroying, but rather calling into question the futility of our insistence. 'What inspires in us this madness that our existence should be defined by a light that can't been seen by anyone?' Why do we live the way we do? What is it, at the core of ourselves and societies that predisposes us to self destruction? Marching us closer to extinction; killing everything.

  • @AletheianAeon was I content with a sandwich i once cherished?

  • If you think about it as a song pertaining to belief in a god, it can make sense, particularly for you atheists out there. But, again, much of VNV's stuff is different for everyone. Just another perspective.

But more than likely, an environmental awareness theme is the likely true meaning. My religion perspective doesn't exactly explain why the song is called "Carbon." Meh. Again, just another perspective.

  • i love this fuckin' song

  • damn this song is depressing...

  • Very true, every time I listen too it I feel guilty for just living. But I still like its powerfulness.

    An eye opening song.

  • @randomnessrules789 i guess that makes two of us

  • Why did people keep spamming thumbs on MartianMan? He probably likes the song as much as anyone else.

  • i cant figure out what the points of light are. could it possibly be the dead?

  • City lights

Maybe the detonation of a nuclear weapon

  • I agree with oden, i would have figured city lights or ashes from a nuke. But thats a very interesting POV... I never would have guessed it as souls. But in my understanding the points of light would be city lights atop skyscrapers. "Monuments in darkness" and "a light that only we can see" describes our advances in technology, our wisdom, legacy,Past, Present, Future because the song asks the question "who will be there after us" very subtely and foreshadows the song "End of days".

  • If you ask me, it seems like its a warning about our growing levels of pollution and destruction of the environment. I can't see this all as progress... as we continue to "advance" we are really killing off the Earth, and bleeding its resources dry. In 1000 years, what will be our legacy? If we keep going the way we do with pollution, who knows? we may all be dead, and forever marked in history as the ones who destroyed our planet just to make a million points of light that no one can see... -.-

  • @randomnessrules789

If I could give you a million thumbs up I honestly would.

  • @randomnessrules789 the earth can't be "killed" by people. it'll still exist

  • The lyrics to this song are amazing!

  • So great! Thank you so much for writing such great music! Outstanding synth as well!

  • has anyone heard the remixed version has no lyrics... just "instrumental"???? if so can somebody tell me who remixed it??? i'm having a total brain fart and want to make sure i get that version again.

  • As much as people like to attribute this to global warming, and as much as it applies, lie other VNV Nation songs I believe it more a commentary on the horrors of conflict and war. In this case, the atomic bomb.

In either event its a fitting track for these times, as much as a lot of people may not be comfortable admitting it.

  • /facepalm

  • @Mautiks

Tell me exactly, how does one suck a fuck?

    (DONNIE DARKO reference.)

  • i love this tune!!

  • *this is a bad ass song.

  • When I hear this song, I picture a cold, grey world.....full of old broken down polluting factories. A complete cement wasteland. It just reminds me of all the damage we are doing to this world like if we have options to live elsewhere. This is bad ass.

  • Agreed.

  • Kinda like something out of Fallout 3? lol

But no, you're right. You are so very right.

  • I was actually thinking more along the lines of something from Mirror's Edge lol. It would fit in Perfectly with that game, with it's slightly futuristic and vast somber feel.

  • @spieler80s we will have options to live elsewhere soon enough we're terraforming mars in 2031

  • @spieler80s The place you're thinking of is called Pittsburgh

  • Chris, if you want to give up, go ahead. But don't let your suffering cause others suffering. If you do, you're no better then the people you think have such a 'horrid nature'. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but that doesnt mean they have the right to impose it upon everyone else.

  • Being a whiney little bitch is irrelevent, its about interests, and my interest is not to suffer, since YOU "chrispollock" cause my suffering, i wish YOU was destroyed. its not enough to simply ignore your pathetic self pittying coments on this song. YOUR mere existence is SICK.

  • why cant you write something more constructive?

  • You're scared.

  • God, I love this song...

  • @MadMadamMarlin God i love this band

  • Everyone deals with "outside impositions" likely FAR worse than you, and they chose to fight on and deal with it, and not complain and look for meds and sympathy from other people. Youve clearly given in to your weak side, and youre a drag on both society and humanity. Why dont you try and give something back instead of always wanting better, whining about how everyone is to blame for you being a bitch is so pathetic, you need to harden the fuck up Chris. :)

  • Incase you have not bothered to take the fucking hint have a good look at these comments...... every visiter is clicking "dislike" on you, so fuck off and cry in someone elses corner, I'm fed up of visiting this song here and seeing you have posted yet more pathetic whineing about it. If you dont like it why are you here? calling on the destruction of art and free expression you soul-less maggot!! fuck off now. F U C K O F F.

  • it's this bollocks "if it hurts, if i don't like it, make it go away" that i hate about people in general.

this song may be dystopic, but it's beautiful, and it's a message they felt needed to be sent. i love it <3.

  • hypocrite. you seek happiness like everyone

  • i do, but that isn't what makes me a hypocrite. seeking happiness doesn't mean i automatically run away and turn a blind eye to pain and hurt.

  • I only really care for the beginning.

  • No offense, chrisP, but if music has that much impact to your wellbeing, maybe you should try amino acids (google Health Recovery Centers) and surf Britney instead of goth

  • i have been on meds for years, they don't take away the pain of knowing the horrible truth about life and having to experience life. health recovery center is another word for insane asylum where they will intern me forcibly and be treated like an animal, without rights. i do surf happier stuff, but the mere existence of this song aggravates me

  • simply ignore it then and let it slip out of your life and you out of ours.

  • The mere fact youre on youtube when there are people on this earth who die of hunger, thirst or suffer at the hands of others on a daily basis, is what pisses me off. You have a better life than the majority of people, stop looking at things with your depressed attitude, and appriciate what you DO have. Nobodys life is perfect, but even people with nothing can be happy with what they do have, and you should think of that next time you want people to feel sorry for you.

  • An hero then

  • Do not let the mares of the night take your conscience, grasp it on your own and sculpt your future with it. Life isn't perfect, but we can atleast make the best of it... untill we are no more.

  • lol, you remind me of that Chinese guy a week ago who wanted to jump onto a freeway, and pussed out. He held up traffic and emergancy services for hours, until eventually some hardcore old feller came along and pushed him off. I want to be that guy for you, but sadly i couldnt take a life unless it was completely justified, and your just not worth the effort bro, sorry...lol, keep it coming tho, you entertain me.

  • depression isn't something you choose, i'm aware. but being weak IS a choice, and reveling in it as you seem to is another, even more pathetic one. crying to youtube isn't going to help you. especially on pages of songs you don't like. i advise getting a proper therapist to listen to your whining.

  • I don't mind negative feedback, but half the comments on this video are you whining about the song. Just stop, okay? If it's really hurtful to you, then coming back here won't solve anything. Find some help, listen to happier music, and good luck getting over your depression.

  • This song is showing how destructive the human race has become. When we hurt the planet we hurt ourselves, this is the only world we have. This song is only depressing through a superficial understanding of the lyrics and sound. I believe Ronan wants to raise our consciousness so we can stop our self-destruction and create a better world for all of us.

  • You contribute to everything this song is about stopping. Death is inevitable, but we don't have face it through fear. We don't even have to face it. Inevitabiity doesn't mean we have to think about it 24/7. I don't think pain is the dominant feeling. I don't believe any feeling has precedence over another feeling. We experience all feelings. To finish, surely our existence as dialogic beings with the ability to discuss and debate things may help you. This is what Youtube enables us to do.

  • i fail to see the need for this song to be destroyed. its a beautiful piece of work. not everything that is made has to be destroyed because you do not find it useful. if you feel that you do not care for this song or music similar to it then stop listening, stop coming back; you're simply making a fool of yourself. Let those of us who enjoy the song do so. and about your depression. fall in love, depression disappears. i was dealing with it not weeks ago before i fell in love. its gone now.

  • Comment removed

  • Jesus Christ Chris. Your still at this. Why dont you understand Fuck Off. Take it somewhere else. Take it to your mother for all i care. It doesn't belong here. Bugger Off, Fuck Off, Get the fuck outta here. If you're so desperate for attention go find it in a whore house. They'll gladly pay attention to you if you trade your wallet away. Maybe you'll get lucky and find someone who is actually sympathetic.

  • Bicycles cause pain when you fall, so should we destroy all of them?

  • @pepperpaw if there is a better alternative that does the same thing without the falling, yup. i remember i hated this song a couple years back. i still don't like it but at least now i can detatch myself from it's fatalistic message

  • @Gamer2k4 Gamer, have I ever told you I love you :). You rock XD.

  • "we are no more...."

  • 'Can someone see our self destruction?'

  • Umm

obviously if you believe that this song created your sadness and inspired you to take a downward spiral into depression your issues run much deeper than a mere song.

  • Seriously.

  • this song is like a drug...its so addicting. I love it!!!

  • Great lyrics, great song.

  • Sorry to here you got sick ! But don't blame the tune on which you marched into depression !

I have been there, and I would NEVER blame a song, book, movie, for this ! But let me tell you this, if you feel bad when looking to a movie, reading a book or listening to a song .. STOP DOING THAT ..........

  • That's bull shit. This song has not caused enough harm for it to be destroyed, if you developed a mental illness, it's because your life was fucked up. Quit trying to blame other things. Lowieken's right, although he's a lot nicer than I am.

  • do you know justin timberlakes "cry me a river"?

  • Part of recovering from an illness comes from no longer blaming others for whats inside of you.

No luck for you there I guess.

  • You sir are a fucking tool and a troll. If you don't like the "fatalistic" attitude in one of the best EBM songs in the past 15 years thats fine... but don't sit here and ruin it for everyone else.

  • This song didn't make you ill. The Beatles didn't make Charlie Manson into a murderer with Helter Skelter. The Devil didn;t make anyone do it. Quit seeking excuses and take responsibility for your own life.

  • Have you tried antacid tablets? I'd recommend Tums or Settlers. Or counseling. It sounds like you may have digestion and depression confused.

Never mind, as long as you have the Internet at least you get plenty of attention eh?

  • unless your mental illness is an obsessive compulsive disorder and your "twitch" is repeatedly listening to this song....then just don't. I enjoy the song. I enjoy it's meaning. Some of us intentionally listen to music to experience a certain range of emotion. If that isn't what you want, then don't listen to it.

And don't post drivel to intentionally get people to down on you. Your feelings of depression don't need further validation. You know that.

Don't go where there is pain.
