he has to bounce the rev limiter several times because this Viper ACR has tall gears. 2nd gear can go up to 140-160km/h. we can see at the longest straight before several last turns, he only use up to 4th gear. yes this is not a very good combination of gear ratios and track. but the driver did a good job though by compromising the needs of upshifting with the distance before the next corner.
They need to work on the gear ratios so he doesn't red line it as much. I can understand bouncing it off the limiter with a fully manual tranny on a track like this though.
Shift damn you shift! He red lined it so many times! I don't clams to be a racing expert (though I'd like to be) but I do believe even with the completely stock ACR he coulda done better. As my favorite car I'd like to see the viper at the top of the nurburgrings lap board.
@Aerosmithrockr1 Almost every redline occurred while approaching a braking zone. There are numerous problems compounding problems associated with upshifting at these areas. Basically he was "so close" to the braking zone that by the time hed have grabbed the next gear- hed have to downshift again and brake. Another key factor to consider is the amount of downforce this vehicle makes. The ACRs top speed is -massively- lower than the non-acrs. (pt1)
@Aerosmithrockr1 (pt2) This is because while all that down force helps keep the car to the ground and achieve amazing cornering speeds, it also induces a lot of aerodynamic drag. If you watch carefully youll notice many times the cars speed drops a smidge between gear changes- This is the result of a car with massive drag losing power to its wheels. Its like tapping on the brakes. This is what would have happened every time if hed upshift before the corner, only to downshift/brake just after
@Aerosmithrockr1 (pt3) While im not saying his driving was perfect, it wasnt- The room for improvement in his laptims comes a lot less from his shifting than most people think. This is real life, not forza/gran turismo where shifting is just the tap of a button away. Its largely just a result of bad power/gearing combination for the track. The few *other* redlines often (always from my notes, but i mightve missed some) occured during high-speed sweepers, which are where
@Aerosmithrockr1 cars with high-downforce shine. He was merely more concerned with watching where he was going down a narrow road at triple digit speeds in a vehicle nearing 1000 lbs of downforce than keeping a moment to moment watch on the tachometer. This type of shifting is *very* common in actual racing in which the drivers lack brightly light digital gauge clusters, shiney RGB LEDs, and shift lights. If youre not force to watch the road at all times, youre not going fast enough ;)
If the gearing is more matched for the track, it should shave off a few seconds easily, i heard the gearing is pretty long so he probably used 1st in some places.
rev limited is used because like other people said, makes you slower because of the change or if the next ratio is alot longer you actually dont gain much. It is commonly done in World Series by Renault, GP2 and Touring cars for example where the extra upshift is a loss because of the extra downshift which then affects the balance of the car into the next corner. For those of you who don't know who Tom Coronel is, go read a little bit before you even decide to post, the mans a legend
The driver heel-toe downshifts amazingly but by golly does he ever need shift lights! That poor engine spent a good minute of the lap ramming off the rev-limiter. That can't be good...
This is the old video, they do not have video of their so called 7:12 lap because it never happened in a Production ACR Viper! The ACR is a purpose built track car like the Gumpert and LFA that ride like a bucking bronco on public roads to a point where you would never want to drive one any further than the corner grocery store. Also, you can still find unsold 2010 ACR Vipers at Dodge dealers!
@jjs4you2 Silly silly little man. The ACR is a completely streetable car, I ought to know I have owned two of them and still do. Took it out yesterday to a car show in fact, drove it 60 miles. But you probably know more about them then me. LOL. And what does the '10 ACR still being on dealers lot mean? That means it's a car you can actually go in and buy, unlike an LFA or silly Radical. Go try to buy a 400K (second place) LFA dude.

@jjs4you2 Here ya go..../watch?v=p2EuY9uRCfQ.....this is the video of the new viper record breaking time. You are correct, the ACR is a purpose built vehicle. It's purpose is to kick ass and it does it well. However, it comes right of the dealers showroom floor as well. I get joy when the haters talk how basic the Viper is but when the SAME viper spanks then they complain it has all kinds of technology all of a sudden. WTF? Btw, most race tuned suspension are rough on the street. Moot point.
It doesn't sound like shit. The guy was not shifting totally correct, so it muddled a bit, if that's what you're talking about. As for the sound of the engine, low growl? Sounds badass and cool! :)
@ace309 GTR gets roughly same times on OTHER tracks as the Porsche 911, so I doubt the GTR was STOCK when it got a 7:29 or lower on N-Ring. Sorry. Nissan is known to cheat for their N-Ring laps in the past, I don't trust them. Plus, they say every GTR is "unique" because none have the same exact HP or same engine, etc. YEAH, exactly room to put a tuned engine in and claim it's "stock". lol
GTR times on N-Ring do not count.
Even while it's fast -> it's ALL wheel drive <- big advantage.
Not a bad driver at all; he's just an inexperienced Viper driver that will need some more time to learn how to shift gears at the correct time. When he gets used to it, he will probably be getting below 7:20s at the N-Ring in that Viper ACR! It will be amazing!
Still awaiting the video release. It's up to Dodge and the SRT division on the time frame, word is they want to make a pretty big splash with it. Besides the two ACR's and the one ACR-X they also brought a Jeep SRT8 there as well. Can't wait to see the video and compare it to Coronol's run in the 08 model. You should see a marked difference in the gearing, more fifth gear and no rev limiter bouncing or much less anyway. I do know the Silver ACR set the actual time record with Farnbacher.
Video will be released soon of the STOCK off the showroom Viper ACR putting the beat down on all others with a 7:12:13 romp around the 'Ring. Before anyone even asks YES it is a street legal factory production car, I own the same model. The 2010 has an improved fifth gear and aero bits. Oh, and they did it in half a day not years like the LF-A took. No computer assists, no traction control or aids. All driver and 600 HP of push rod muscle. Driven by Dominik Farnbacher.
So when asked the question "Why is it junk" you have basically responded "Because its junk". While this answer is nice- It really doesnt answer anything at all, does it? If you feel toyota is junk, and more specifically the LFA- Thats fine- More power to ya. Id simply like to know "why" its junk. If you cant, or more accurately- are unable to answer this question, all you need say is "I dont have an answer".
And man the carousel (different spelling for the corner?) is frickin scary! I already struggle with it in GT5 (I really suck), can't imagine how much fun and scary itnis in realnlife
he bounced off the limiter because shifting would have cost him time. Did you not notice how he braked and downshifted after mere seconds of bouncing the limiter?
@ZR1Terror btw...u told me to do some research on the viper beating the vette's time? Ur on the right video and looks like vettes got 2 second slower than the viper... one more thing...Are you stupid?
LOL, he missed at least 2 shifts completely and was bouncing it off the rev limiter when he should have been shifting and he still got the fastest time ever recorded on a production car...on production tires. He (or someone else) could definitely improve greatly on this time.
How come the American cars are faster than both Ferrari's Enzo and Lambo's best production car at this track. Stock Chevy Zr1 did 7:19 American Muscle Baby!!! Haha
I know I am, only negative is they have to have stability systems built in, so they aren't quite as much of a drivers car anymore. I am looking forward to the new engines though, need something that an compete with the corvettes.
One of you little fruits in your BMWah or whatever need to go out there and straighten this stuff out, instead of doing all the bleeding hearts on here, you sound like a bunch of sissies?
Sure.. but this is no normal racetrack and this car is no "stock" car. They made 20 of them for the single purpose of setting records to generate hero status and to forget the fact that up til the very last season, Vipers were budget burnout machines. The closest thing you can get to a list of cars driven by the same person on the same track without bias either way, is TopGears board of Stig laps.
@Janusha Jesus, I remember seeing this video about a year ago and you were here complaining about how your cat told you that Nissan, Dodge and Porsche were all bull shiters. Do you just sit on youtube all day, everyday to just troll this one video?
I like the way they did the HUD on this video,I love seeing all the technical info while listening to that viper engine moan like someone is murdering a dragon...great video
if you click on his name youll see that all he does on youtube all day is find any video with anything american in it then tell you about "how it is in his country"
some american guy fucked his mom and sister at the same time and it ruined his life and now hes on an obsessed mission
the shift knob is vibrating because he keeps hitting the damn limiter! This is a big engine, it should get enough power to pull hard at lower rpm... I really think he could save some time by being in a higher gear more of the time. But anyways, thanks for the cool video!
@RockLobsta23 I do race but you don't have to be a professional driver to see that he hits the limiter a lot... Don't you think a big pushrod 8.4L V10 would be more useful at lower RPM instead of getting its power cut to 0 by the limiter? There's no act in questioning things...
I love how the dude pegs the rev limiter for probably half of the track. You can probably count the number of times the guy shifted on two hands. Yet he STILL set the record at that time.
The lateral G meter and the downforce meter is amazing.
@aieljose hey u r the fag homo that no one likes. HAHAHAHA loser. I have been told u are such a loser that youtube mods sent u a warning because u r also a pedophile
@everytimeboy Replying to a post i made 10 months ago and im the loser? LMAO! How long did it take you to scroll the comments to find my post troll boy? LMAO!
@gogusostotafof cause its pretty hard to find the right gearing for this special track! there are simply too much difficult driving situations....and the shifting with the viper takes longer than in other race cars i´ve seen... :)
Great question- 99% of the time when he over-revs its just prior to a braking zone- This is because the gearing is poorly set to the track. Theres no point in upshifting *just* before a braking zone, only to have to downshift immediately after. The times would have been slower if hed done so. The other "few" times I noticed him do it is when hes concentrating more on the road (ie triple digits around long sweepers in a new car) than the gauge cluster.
@SidewaysGts Thank you for the thorough response. The answe would be then to tune the gearing to the track and put a driver behind the wheel that doesn't need to look at the gauge to know when to shift. Sounds to me that the Viper could go faster!
@ohedd Indeed the viper could go faster- But in all honesty, without changing the gearing (or any of the car for that matter), it really wouldnt go that much faster. Despite how this video may look to most, there isnt *That* much room for improvement. Youd be fighting for single digit % increases in time at best imo.
@ohedd If he were to change gears, he would lose time shifting up for only a moment just to shift back down. The best thing is to leave it in the same gear and just overrev it and then engine brake into a corner. It is a street racing technique because you have to use a clutch in order to shift. Kart racing won't use it because they use sequential transmissions and have such a quick shift time.
He's just a little man, in a little slow mundane car, tilting at windmills. It's sad to be so insignificant you have to belittle the efforts of others to justify your own sad existance. I'm guessing a nameless faceless office clerk or mailroom employee destined to a life of mediocrity.
Don't be foolish everyone... this is seriously fast. Also, the factory Corvette ZR1 did it in 7:26? Go ahead and list the other cars in the world that can beat that, then list their prices.... I'm sure you see where I'm going here. It's impossible to go faster for cheaper, and setting lap times like these is astounding, no matter what car you're in.
@Janusha You really are an idiot, janusha. How is having a video in the car displaying the entire lap with revs, mph, etc... fictional? Go back to bed, pull the covers back over your head, and keep thinking that the US is incapable of making a car that is faster on a track than a Porsche Carrera GT, Porsche 911 GT2, Ferrari 458 Italia, Porsche 911 Turbo. Shall I keep going? Oh, and at a fraction of the price. Stop showing your ignorance here, you're giving European countries a bad reputation.
@timstamp1 As a thinly disguised racecar with numberplates driven by a factory backed race crew, I dont doubt its capabilities. Not even americans can fake time. however cars easily can be modified to any state of tune. And do REALLY Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, all the big ones go to the Nurburgring to see whats best ? That doesnt happen outside your playstation or X-box.
@Janusha You're right.. it is a thinly disguised race car... just like all other supercars... what's you point? As far as "the big ones" going to Nurburgring to see what's what? Yes, Porsche does.... Yes Pagani does... Yes Nissan does (GT-R)... Yes General Motors and Chrysler does... Yes Radical does...
It seems you just keep showing your ignorance and digging yourself deeper and deeper with each post.
Thats the entire list of car companies that have conducted factory backed runs at the Nurburgring. Far from the "international benchmark" americans think they are quoting when they proudly tell us how they showed up with ultra modified "showroom stock" cars and race crews and ALL beat them pesky europeans at their own game. Right in the middle of their worst financial disaster, desperate to market their cars in Europe and generate hype back home.
The track is a a tourist attraction and test track for mainly german cars (since its in germany) Porsche has had permanent test facilities there for 50 years and along comes the americans.. Flying over race modded cars at great expense in the middle of their collective bankruptcies and ALL claim world records on their first god damn weekend... Tell me. At what point is it timely to question these wild claims. There is no rulebook or timekeeping. Its all self repported and unofficial.
Its a tourist attraction and occasionally a test track for mostly german cars. Other than that there are some novelty races held a few times a year. Factory backed raceteams conducting "benchtests" is just an american myth. Its just a pissing contest between Nissan and the americans.
@Janusha Are you retarded? Did you ever see the shots of an Audi R8 V10 prototype that burned up at the ring? they were blatantly testing it and you are an idiot.
Like I said... Its used as a test track for mainly german cars. Because its in germany. What the fuck do you americans know? You hadnt even heard of the place until 2008 when americans had their fun there claiming ridiculous world records after renting the track for a god damn weekend. But show me proof. Its a mediastunt at best. "benchmarking" at the Ring doesnt happen outside your X-box. Its all a pissing contest between Nissan and GM.
Just look at who else actually flies over fully factory backed race crews and their own highly modified cars claiming amazing laps. While Porsche that has had permanent test facilities at the Ring for over 50 years, laugh at their wild claims. Poking cameras out the window showing the track and the time. There isnt a single picture to verify the actual cars. No interviews, no press conference, nothing at all to suggest this is legit.
Like these pictures here champ? Your bullshit and ignorance never ends, does it? Everything you've asked for DOES exist, its just dwarfed by the interest in the VIDEO. Even interviews exist in the full version of this very video- but again, most want just the action.
@Janusha (part 2) But of course this wont keep you happy, will it? I mean how do we know they didnt have super-secret mad jdm tyte nurburgring magic installed under there? I mean if they'd REALLY wanted to proven that they were "legit", they shouldve let 3 other independent crews come and strip the car inside and out while being taped by 4 OTHER magazine companies with a midget holding a glass of milk and the current-dated news paper to REALLY verify it. Right?
This is bullshit whichever way you turn it. Verifying these kind of mediastunts really isnt very hard. Invite press and they will come. Its their business to come. You dont even have to give out free cookies. Instead they bring Motortrend... All the way from america. THE most ultra american biased idiots in the business. The people that said "Corvette... Performance that no other car can touch" and "Corvette, whether going around a corner or in a straight line, is simply unbeatable"
They are big because they tell americans what they want to hear. Motor press in USA works like this. The big3 advertise in ALL medias. Their way to punish an unfavorable review is by withholding advertisement money to that publication. That way US motor press deliver cater-for-all, focus-on-the-positive reviews. That way they get invited to factory events, exclusive first drives, VIP tickets to car shows, free hotels, open bars and all the goodies that comes with being on the big3s good side.
Now... I question the validity and relevance of these ridiculous lap times. Not the times themselves. I also very much question the credibility of the entire US car business. This car is a racecar... so naturally it WILL pull off racecar lap times with or without non-stock mods. But this constant reliance on bullshitting and big words is what makes US cars only sell in america... Where people eat that shit without question aslong as they can keep their illusions of wooorld dominance.
A what? Still hiding behind vague terms are we Janusha? What exactly is a "race car" to you again? You've failed about a dozen times now to simply define what you mean by "race car".
@Janusha In america... where people eat that shit without question aslong as they can keep their illusions of wooorld dominance"
World what? Says who? Where? When? Any references? No? Didnt think so (its ok- you never do, we've stopped expecting anything from you). Again- sure theres a few idiots who say this (and they are amazingly loud more often then not even), but thats very, VERY far from the normal individual here as you portray them to be.
"World what? Says who?" christ... am I the only person on the net? Open your eyes and look how the general american public view their car status compared to how it ACTUALLY is. Ive said from the start how the entire base "knowledge" of cars and car business in USA is funded entirely on hype, wild claims, corporate spam and bold lies. You yourself told me Lamborghini worked on the Vipers engine. A complete myth. Sure it all makes sense and its on Wikipedia and everything.
Just like Wikipedia tells me the god damn AMG SLS is really the next gen Viper. Also makes sense until you look it up and find its bullshit. funny how, when I went to the Lamborghini factory, they dont verify that claim. Chrysler asked them to have a look at it at some point, they said a truck engine wasnt suitable for a supercar and suggested expensive modifications... Which the Viper programme didnt have the budget for... So nothing was ever done by Lambo. But its a good story Im sure.
Just like all the other claims and myths... Nice little feel-good stories. These Nurburgring "records" too... The records were there for the taking because nobody was chasing them. Just like the SSCs top speed. Nobody else was really trying so a kit-car builder could do it. Now however.. because of the mediahype this Ring circus generates, BMW went and beat the self-proclaimed 4door Cadillac time. Which only adds to the bullshit. I wont be surprised if Mclaren and Aventador joins too.
I object to this because I dont like it when respectable brands join bullshit trends. "Beating" GMs bullshit claims kinda validates them. And BMW, Ferrari, Lambo, all the respectable names should have enough integrity to realise that the flagwaving masses, the hating youtubers and the keyboardracers nerd-raging on message boards about lap times... Arent the same people that actually go out and buy these things. This ideat hat sending a car round the Ring quickly, makes it better, is ridiculous.
@Janusha "I object to this because i dont like it when respectable brands join bullshit trends"
What again is this bullshit trend? Taking cars to one of the most recognized tracks in the world for the difficulty and challenge it represents? Who says its bullshit? You? Why? Who are you again and why do we care what your opinion is on why this is a "bullshit" trend? I just see people being fascinated by one of the most unique tracks in the world- Im not sure what you see.
@Janusha "Now. because of the mediahype this Ring circus generates, BMW went and beat the.."
Actually BMW has *always* tested nearly every vehicle theyve built on the ring. Its not that they "went to.." do anything- It was just a day at the ring for them. It sure was a nice perk though.
@Janusha "I wont be surprised if Mclaren and Aventador joins too"
I wont be surprsied by anyone who "joins in". People around the wooorrlldd are fascinated by the ring. Theres a reason people have been testing there cars there for ages- As the world becomes smaller its of no surprise that as more people around the world learn about the ring and are fascinated they want to "know" as well. The only question is why world-wide respect for an amazing track upsets you.
@Janusha "Just like wikipedia tells me the go damn AMG SLS is really the next gen viper"
A myth that was discovered by AMERICAN car journalists btw. I just did a search through the wikipedia entry for the sls amg, cant find a single mention of viper. Can you show me where this is?
@Janusha "Chrysler asked them to have a look at it at some point, they said a truck engine wasnt suitable for a supercar and suggested expansive modifications.. which the viper programme didnt have the budget for"
And yet that "truck engine" WAS expansively modified. I think youre forgetting something here- In the late 80s Chrysler essentially OWNED Lamborghini.
@Janusha "christ... Ive said from the start how.."
Exactly sport- YOUVE said. A Norwegian thousands of miles away who doesnt live in america to the best of my knowledge. As a skeptical individual who LIVED in america- I hope you dont mind if i simply "Take your word for it". It might be a surprise, to say "ive known more americans than you" is a bit of an understatement. I dont know ONE remotely close to how you paint them ALL. So again, What? Where? Who? When? REFERENCES champ- theyre handy
@Janusha "You yourself told me lamborghini worked on the Vipers engine. A complete myth. Sure it all makes sense and its on wikipedia..."
I didnt have to go through wikipedia for that- I *worked* on these cars for a living. Ive had numerous conversations with the actual engineers who built these things. The crew i worked with consisted of some of the *original* technicians at dodge dealers, some of the first to touch these things. Its a myth? Please explain.
A "bullshit trend" would be a trend in which bullshit is applied for the purpose of hyping a product beyond its actual capabilities through misleading results or results that are irrelevant. Such as the use of skidpads and slalom which only american car companies rely on to somehow put a number on handling.. while in reality its... bullshit.
Just like the Ring being some "international benchmark"
Its been a test track for mostly german cars for decades. Thrashing a car around the ring puts as much stress on various components as a family can do over years. To address reliability issues, the Ring is a fine test track. When racecrews come to claim records and hunt extremes, they produce misleading info for purpose of hype alone. Which is bullshit because it doesnt represents what you get when you buy a car. Claiming "stock" cars is bullshit because racecrews arent there to sit and watch.
"A myth that was discovered by americans" ?? Are you claiming credit for making myths? You dont "discover" a myth. A myth is a collection of stories and lies MISTAKEN for truth. That when you look into it, turns out to be bullshit. So obviously you dont find it quoted on the AMG SLS wikipedia. But try wikipedia.o rg/wiki/Dodge_Viper. Funny how I can find these things just by looking. Its not hard to dispell bullshit if you apply some logic.
You dont give up do you... If Chrysler really owned Lambo, there would be no Lambo today. Look up the word "Subsidiery" Whatever changes was done to the Viper engine wasnt done by Lambo regardless of what your myths insist on. I dont know whats worse... Given your history with Vipers. Do you honestly think they had the budget to even call Lamborghini in the early stages of development or that Lamborghini would be the "brains" behind a 8 litre engine producing only 400 hp. Where is the logic.
@Janusha "Funny how I can find these things just by looking. Its not hard to dispell bullshit if you apply some logic"
Tell me about it- Ive been applying logic to your bullshit for ages now. The only thing funny here though is that you make this claim, yet you couldnt find the assortment of pictures that show the acr(s) on nurburgring, surrounded by its crew, in the pit lanes being checked out, etc and etc. "hahaha" right?
@Janusha "Claiming 'stock' cars is bullshit because racecrews arent there to sit and watch"
What do you expect them to do? Show up with the car on a trailer, a single driver, and go "have at it"? What if something breaks? You'd probably be wishing you had a crew. And dont look now champ- the acr has a plethora of adjustable parts *from the factory*. Shocks, ride height, aero, all adjustable out of the box. Why WOULDNT they have educated people tweaking it to the best they could?
@Janusha You sound pretty bitter, and more and more ignorant, Janusha. First, who said that the Nurburgring is an "international benchmark"? Second, race modified car? I'm sorry you feel so salty that an American car beat a European car on a race track in Europe. Third, it's American, not american... there you go showing your ignorance again. Fourth, please stop replying, I feel I keep lowering myself to a new record low every time I read and respond to one of your cry baby posts.
Bitter for what... We all know everything american gets hyped far beyond its actual capabilities so now that america is down to 1-2 internationally competitive cars, naturally they recieve ALL the hype. Not to remove the significance of these dubious achievements at the Ring but you should know the ultra modified Cadillac CTS-V used was far from "showroom stock" and they only claim to have "beat" the 15 years old equally faked Nissan GTs record by 1 silly second.
I dont give a crap what you drive over there or whats faster... a Viper or a god damn Nissan. What I strongly object to is how these silly mediastunts are now portrayed as the basis for how american cars perform internationally against its competition. Every american quotes these silly lap times now. Confirming their faith in their own superiority that no amount of bankruptcies or squeeky plastic can shake. As if that in itself makes up for the recent massive failures in US car industry.
@Janusha No, most US made car fans will be the first to tell you these better then ever cars do not make up for their idiotic policies and practices... your lumping us all in the same boat. I'm sorry you can't come to the realization that US made cars are getting better, and that a car like the ZR1 is just a capable and in most cases more capable then it european counterparts which in most cases are grossly over priced and costing 3 or 4 more times the ZR1 or ACR.
Ofcourse they are getting better. Im not saying USA CANT make good cars. The technology is out there for anyone. USA put 2 more or less working cars on Mars for christs sakes... There is no reason to fail at cars on this planet. However now that forexample GM has hit the reset button, nothing prevents them from re-emerging as a quality brand except their determination not to. GM took their 50 billion out of the 100 billion bailout money and fled the country. Instead making cars in -
-Mexico, Brazil and rebadged Korean Daewoo. We all know great stuff doesnt come out of third world countries.
The Corvette has been virtually unchanged for 6 years now. When the new one arrives. Will they be able to make it a midengined carbon fiber monocell, venturi channels, dual clutch, millisecond paddleshift gearing, active aero, all the stuff seen in modern supercars? That would make the Corvette cost supercar money and even worse.. That would be to admit those Euros were right all along.
@Janusha "(technical drivel the next corvette could do) And even worse.. That would be to admit those euros were right all along"
Right about what? How to go fast? The way you word this implies the americans were "wrong". News flash champ- Americans never argued with what the "euros" are doing- Quite the opposite. We know what and why they do what they do. Why doesnt the corvette do it? Simple slugger- Money. Yes those methods work, and work damn good (part 1)
Do you want to embarrass yourself further with this ? Or are we REALLY supposed to believe corporate spam and patriotic hype from american companies right, smack, in the middle of their worst financial disaster ?
At what point is it time to stop and think for yourself ? They claim 1 second faster than the 15 years old Nissan record. 1 second faster on a 20 mile track with a full racecrew. Wow... what an achievement. You must be proud.
@Janusha Your an absolute idiot if you think Nissan didn't have a "full race crew" there as well. What do you think they saw some guy driving around Tokyo and said; "Hey wanna go try and set the one lap record at the ring?"...... His money, his car, no tech/mech support... Nissan wouldn't have shown up if they didn't have a full race team.
Ofcourse Nissan had a full race crew. If it makes you feel any better, Nissan are the ones that started all this crap when they wanted to market their Skyline in Europe back in the day. They realised there were no "production car" records at the Ring, tweaked the shit out of their old Skyline, hired a Ring driver and duly posted the worlds first 8 minute "production car" lap. Then the press got hold of it and the myth was born. Then 15 years later Cadillac comes along claiming 1 second faster.
Full race crew, ultra modded cars. With a 6 litre Corvette engine and only 1 second faster 15 years later.. Thats what all the hype is about. Some god damn achievement isnt it. Why hasnt the Nissan been beaten in 15 years ? Because nobody is trying. There is no international benchmarking going on. There is no war for supremacy out there in the car world. There is Nissan and the americans competing who can cheat the most, then there are a few other small companies. The rest is mostly bullshit.
@Janusha "Full race crew, ultra modded cars. With a 6 litre corvette engine and only 1 second faster 15 years later"
Question- Did you just compare a 4200+ pounds 4 door luxury saloon to a Skyline Gtr? You also say it had a full race crew- Why is this a "demeaning factor" to you? What are they doing that makes the times less relevant to the potential of the vehicle? You also assert it was "ultra modded" Cool- Wheres your evidence/source to back this claim? I just want to read it for myself.
Isnt the desperate lack of photographic evidence proof that they didnt really want to be inspected ? They rent the track for a weekend, do their run and quickly pack up before anyone can validify their wild claims. Amazing isnt it that they all forgot their cameras. If this was a legit run, at the expense it would be to fly these cars over and rent the track, not a SINGLE press person was invited. Amazing isnt it. Like I said. I dont doubt the time. after all TIME cant be faked yet.
I accept all friend requests.

this is why viper reigns supreme over corvette it didn't set a record
benroll532 2 weeks ago
he has to bounce the rev limiter several times because this Viper ACR has tall gears.

Aerosmithrockr1 2 months ago
@Aerosmithrockr1 he red lined it because in many cases shifting would have taking more time than just red lining it and braking.
krillixgaming 2 months ago
@Aerosmithrockr1 Almost every redline occurred while approaching a braking zone. There are numerous problems compounding problems associated with upshifting at these areas. Basically he was "so close" to the braking zone that by the time hed have grabbed the next gear- hed have to downshift again and brake. Another key factor to consider is the amount of downforce this vehicle makes. The ACRs top speed is -massively- lower than the non-acrs. (pt1)
SidewaysGts 2 months ago
@Aerosmithrockr1 (pt2) This is because while all that down force helps keep the car to the ground and achieve amazing cornering speeds, it also induces a lot of aerodynamic drag. If you watch carefully youll notice many times the cars speed drops a smidge between gear changes- This is the result of a car with massive drag losing power to its wheels. Its like tapping on the brakes. This is what would have happened every time if hed upshift before the corner, only to downshift/brake just after
SidewaysGts 2 months ago
@Aerosmithrockr1 (pt3) While im not saying his driving was perfect, it wasnt- The room for improvement in his laptims comes a lot less from his shifting than most people think. This is real life, not forza/gran turismo where shifting is just the tap of a button away. Its largely just a result of bad power/gearing combination for the track. The few *other* redlines often (always from my notes, but i mightve missed some) occured during high-speed sweepers, which are where
SidewaysGts 2 months ago
@Aerosmithrockr1 cars with high-downforce shine. He was merely more concerned with watching where he was going down a narrow road at triple digit speeds in a vehicle nearing 1000 lbs of downforce than keeping a moment to moment watch on the tachometer. This type of shifting is *very* common in actual racing in which the drivers lack brightly light digital gauge clusters, shiney RGB LEDs, and shift lights. If youre not force to watch the road at all times, youre not going fast enough ;)
SidewaysGts 2 months ago
If the gearing is more matched for the track, it should shave off a few seconds easily, i heard the gearing is pretty long so he probably used 1st in some places.
5cmpersec 2 months ago
rev limited is used because like other people said, makes you slower because of the change or if the next ratio is alot longer you actually dont gain much.

Moot point.

Northax 4 months ago
@goodgodzilla
Not a bad driver at all; he's just an inexperienced Viper driver that will need some more time to learn how to shift gears at the correct time. When he gets used to it, he will probably be getting below 7:20s at the N-Ring in that Viper ACR! It will be amazing!
Northax 4 months ago
Still awaiting the video release. It's up to Dodge and the SRT division on the time frame, word is they want to make a pretty big splash with it. Besides the two ACR's and the one ACR-X they also brought a Jeep SRT8 there as well. Can't wait to see the video and compare it to Coronol's run in the 08 model. You should see a marked difference in the gearing, more fifth gear and no rev limiter bouncing or much less anyway. I do know the Silver ACR set the actual time record with Farnbacher.

Sure.. but this is no normal racetrack and this car is no "stock" car. The closest thing you can get to a list of cars driven by the same person on the same track without bias either way, is TopGears board of Stig laps.

@gogusostotafof NO because it then wouldn't be a STOCK factory car and eunuchs like Janusha would complain even more.
ViperJon 8 months ago
@ohedd "Why is he overrevving so much?"
SidewaysGts 8 months ago
@SidewaysGts Thank you for the thorough response. The answe would be then to tune the gearing to the track and put a driver behind the wheel that doesn't need to look at the gauge to know when to shift. Sounds to me that the Viper could go faster!
ohedd 8 months ago
@ohedd Indeed the viper could go faster- But in all honesty, without changing the gearing (or any of the car for that matter), it really wouldnt go that much faster. Despite how this video may look to most, there isnt *That* much room for improvement. Youd be fighting for single digit % increases in time at best imo.
SidewaysGts 8 months ago
@ohedd If he were to change gears, he would lose time shifting up for only a moment just to shift back down. The best thing is to leave it in the same gear and just overrev it and then engine brake into a corner. It is a street racing technique because you have to use a clutch in order to shift. Kart racing won't use it because they use sequential transmissions and have such a quick shift time.

Shall I keep going? Oh, and at a fraction of the price. Stop showing your ignorance here, you're giving European countries a bad reputation.
timstamp1 8 months ago
@timstamp1 As a thinly disguised racecar with numberplates driven by a factory backed race crew, I dont doubt its capabilities. Not even americans can fake time. however cars easily can be modified to any state of tune. And do REALLY Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, all the big ones go to the Nurburgring to see whats best ? That doesnt happen outside your playstation or X-box.

At what point is it timely to question these wild claims. There is no rulebook or timekeeping. Its all self repported and unofficial.

Janusha 7 months ago

But this constant reliance on bullshitting and big words is what makes US cars only sell in america...
Janusha 7 months ago
Just like Wikipedia tells me the god damn AMG SLS is really the next gen Viper. Also makes sense until you look it up and find its bullshit. funny how, when I went to the Lamborghini factory, they dont verify that claim. Chrysler asked them to have a look at it at some point, they said a truck engine wasnt suitable for a supercar and suggested expensive modifications... Which the Viper programme didnt have the budget for... So nothing was ever done by Lambo. But its a good story Im sure.
Janusha 7 months ago
Just like all the other claims and myths... Nice little feel-good stories. These Nurburgring "records" too... The records were there for the taking because nobody was chasing them. Just like the SSCs top speed. Nobody else was really trying so a kit-car builder could do it. Now however.. because of the mediahype this Ring circus generates, BMW went and beat the self-proclaimed 4door Cadillac time. Which only adds to the bullshit. I wont be surprised if Mclaren and Aventador joins too.
Janusha 7 months ago

SidewaysGts 7 months ago
@Janusha "Now. because of the mediahype this Ring circus generates, BMW went and beat the.."
Actually BMW has *always* tested nearly every vehicle theyve built on the ring. Its not that they "went to.." do anything- It was just a day at the ring for them. It sure was a nice perk though.
SidewaysGts 7 months ago

SidewaysGts 7 months ago

@SidewaysGts
Janusha 7 months ago
Its been a test track for mostly german cars for decades. Thrashing a car around the ring puts as much stress on various components as a family can do over years. To address reliability issues, the Ring is a fine test track. When racecrews come to claim records and hunt extremes, they produce misleading info for purpose of hype alone. Which is bullshit because it doesnt represents what you get when you buy a car. Claiming "stock" cars is bullshit because racecrews arent there to sit and watch.
Janusha 7 months ago
"A myth that was discovered by americans" ?? Are you claiming credit for making myths? You dont "discover" a myth. A myth is a collection of stories and lies MISTAKEN for truth. That when you look into it, turns out to be bullshit. So obviously you dont find it quoted on the AMG SLS wikipedia. But try wikipedia.o rg/wiki/Dodge_Viper. Funny how I can find these things just by looking. Its not hard to dispell bullshit if you apply some logic.
Janusha 7 months ago
You dont give up do you... If Chrysler really owned Lambo, there would be no Lambo today. Look up the word "Subsidiery" Whatever changes was done to the Viper engine wasnt done by Lambo regardless of what your myths insist on. I dont know whats worse... Given your history with Vipers. Do you honestly think they had the budget to even call Lamborghini in the early stages of development or that Lamborghini would be the "brains" behind a 8 litre engine producing only 400 hp. Where is the logic.
Janusha 7 months ago
@Janusha "Funny how I can find these things just by looking. Its not hard to dispell bullshit if you apply some logic"
Tell me about it- Ive been applying logic to your bullshit for ages now. The only thing funny here though is that you make this claim, yet you couldnt find the assortment of pictures that show the acr(s) on nurburgring, surrounded by its crew, in the pit lanes being checked out, etc and etc. "hahaha" right?
SidewaysGts 7 months ago
@Janusha "When racecrews come to claim records and hunt down extremes, they produce misleading info for the purpose of hype"
What misleading info was produced about the acr here? I mustve missed it.
SidewaysGts 7 months ago
@Janusha "Claiming 'stock' cars is bullshit because racecrews arent there to sit and watch"
What do you expect them to do? Show up with the car on a trailer, a single driver, and go "have at it"? What if something breaks? You'd probably be wishing you had a crew. And dont look now champ- the acr has a plethora of adjustable parts *from the factory*. Shocks, ride height, aero, all adjustable out of the box. Why WOULDNT they have educated people tweaking it to the best they could?
SidewaysGts 7 months ago
@Janusha You sound pretty bitter, and more and more ignorant, Janusha. First, who said that the Nurburgring is an "international benchmark"? Second, race modified car? I'm sorry you feel so salty that an American car beat a European car on a race track in Europe. Third, it's American, not american... there you go showing your ignorance again. Fourth, please stop replying, I feel I keep lowering myself to a new record low every time I read and respond to one of your cry baby posts.
timstamp1 8 months ago
@timstamp1
Janusha 8 months ago
I dont give a crap what you drive over there or whats faster... a Viper or a god damn Nissan. What I strongly object to is how these silly mediastunts are now portrayed as the basis for how american cars perform internationally against its competition. Every american quotes these silly lap times now. Confirming their faith in their own superiority that no amount of bankruptcies or squeeky plastic can shake. As if that in itself makes up for the recent massive failures in US car industry.
Janusha 8 months ago
@Janusha No, most US made car fans will be the first to tell you these better then ever cars do not make up for their idiotic policies and practices... your lumping us all in the same boat. I'm sorry you can't come to the realization that US made cars are getting better, and that a car like the ZR1 is just a capable and in most cases more capable then it european counterparts which in most cases are grossly over priced and costing 3 or 4 more times the ZR1 or ACR.
jpg8402 8 months ago

Janusha 8 months ago
@Janusha "(technical drivel the next corvette could do) And even worse.. That would be to admit those euros were right all along"
Right about what? How to go fast? The way you word this implies the americans were "wrong". News flash champ- Americans never argued with what the "euros" are doing- Quite the opposite. We know what and why they do what they do. Why doesnt the corvette do it? Simple slugger- Money. Yes those methods work, and work damn good (part 1)

@Janusha Sorry pimp but the Cadillac was a stock car straight from the showroom. The only thing added was a helmet.

@adamwarrix
Janusha 8 months ago
@Janusha Your an absolute idiot if you think Nissan didn't have a "full race crew" there as well. What do you think they saw some guy driving around Tokyo and said; "Hey wanna go try and set the one lap record at the ring?"...... His money, his car, no tech/mech support... Nissan wouldn't have shown up if they didn't have a full race team.
jpg8402 8 months ago
Ofcourse Nissan had a full race crew. If it makes you feel any better, Nissan are the ones that started all this crap when they wanted to market their Skyline in Europe back in the day. They realised there were no "production car" records at the Ring, tweaked the shit out of their old Skyline, hired a Ring driver and duly posted the worlds first 8 minute "production car" lap. Then the press got hold of it and the myth was born. Then 15 years later Cadillac comes along claiming 1 second faster.
Janusha 8 months ago
Full race crew, ultra modded cars. With a 6 litre Corvette engine and only 1 second faster 15 years later.. Thats what all the hype is about. Some god damn achievement isnt it. Why hasnt the Nissan been beaten in 15 years ? Because nobody is trying. There is no international benchmarking going on. There is no war for supremacy out there in the car world. There is Nissan and the americans competing who can cheat the most, then there are a few other small companies. The rest is mostly bullshit.
Janusha 8 months ago
@Janusha
just stfu already
the fact that you commented 5 times means you must think american cars are some kind of threat to your mental stability

SidewaysGts 8 months ago
@SidewaysGts
