I know the technique (The Throw) very well.

I LOVE to find these game. I pretend to be the pidgeon and ask to play. They usually let you win the 'easy' way first and then perform the throw on subsequent times.

I take the ez money and then ask if I can double down for the second. After picking them off and winning the 2nd bet, I pack up and leave - bye bye!

I absolutely LOVE beating cheats.

It can be dangerous though - pick your spots in public only ;-)

Everyone knows this is a scam but they play thinking they can beat it. Some are just straight suckers & some think they can spot the switch.

I think a good strategy would be to follow the dummy card that they want you to think is the Ace b/c they make it easy to follow so you think you won & when its done you know it has to be one of the other 2. Its not sure fire but when it comes to gambling a 50/50 chance is pretty damn good.

@amplifyd63 When the cards are face down, he's holding the bottom card (ace) between his thumb and middle finger, and the top card (king) between his thumb and index finger. As he throws the king he removes his index finger in order to let the top card drop to the table. It's just basic sleight of hand. Simple enough just takes a little practice.

Its almost impossible to use the knowledge of the trick against the hustlers because they can "pull" the card at any time. The best you can hope to do is follow the one they "WANT you to think is the A - but you're left to guess between the other 2. The best you can do is when you see a 3 card monte table - head in the other direction.

You can do like this , if you start putting , lets say 5 dollars , then you win 10 , then you put only 2 , if you lose , take the card and see if he got something on the back of the card (another card) .. still , you have a 3 dollar profit :D

If I ever played 3 card monte, I'd just close my eyes during the shuffle, then place my bet randomly.... IT's a 1/3 chance, or 33.3333% to hit, and that's pretty good odds, much better than casinos. Of course, if you win when you're supposed to be losing, the cons will probably just beat you up, and take all your jewels too.
