I kind of like this version better than the 20/20 version (maybe) since Brian has more of a part on this one and he makes the chorus & the 3rd verse even more understandable than Carl (although Carl does an incredible job at the whole 20/20 mixed version) if that's possible. Oh and this version is a bit longer which is good especially for how good this song is
This song is one of my all time faves...from about 2:29 on listen to the music...the overdub of the strings is incredible...I would love to hear this one without vocals...stack o' tracks style!! and the acapella at the end...wow!!!
@powerleg yea right people thought he could only write songs about teenage surfing he wrote marcella with tandyn almer that wrote along comes mary its a very wordy song almost like rap listen to high school usa by tommy fasenda its like rap listen to oscar brown junior heas like a jazz raper .
@Okiemom50 its hard to tell they sound so much alike what about in the back of my mind its dennis but there are moments when it sounds like it could be brian touching it up .
@spacepatrolman Yes, you're so right. There have been many times I have heard a voice talking in interviews, and I thought it was Brian and later found out it was Dennis! ;o) All three of the Wilson's have such similar voices at times! No wonder they harmonized so well!
@Okiemom50 its like murry said their vocal chords are geneticly similer so it makes their voices blendable [thats asuming they can sing the manager of that group the bachelors the mclosky brothers used to complain that they didnt harmonize that well they just couldnt sing the beach boys worked at it ]
never heard this version thanks for the post......really do like the backing vocals on the other version, and yes they do have many gems that most people never hear.....their music has aged very well.....much better than me..ha, ha/....
Fantastic Beach Boys Gem. There are so many gems underlying their standard hits that the average radio listening public never hear !!! Makes you glad your a Beach Boys fan !!!

If anyone ever tells you Brian wasn't a good lyricist tell them to listen to this song.
"The pine scented air/smells so good in the snow/in our toboggan we'll go/screaming down the mountainside"

This sounds like Carl in the beginning, but the last part sounds more like Brian. Anyone agree?

@Okiemom50
Carl sings lead on the verses, Brian on the chorus.

@JDrevolver66 At times, It sounds like them both singing in unison. :) The harmonies on this song are amazing.

@JDrevolver66 I hear Carl on the first two verses only but Brian on the choruses, bridge and third verse.

My favorite Beach Boys song. It's a shame that the majority of todays youth will never hear this.

Under-appreciated classic. One of Carl's better and more heartfelt vocal performances.

This album contains two important instrumental
riffs left off of "Stack-o-Tracks":
"Good To My Baby"
and
"The Little Girl I Once Knew" (listed as
"Carol K Sessions")
wow...
