@Nomoreidsleft Actually Kosher is either cow or pectin, as kosher and halal foods can't contain pork but may contain beef. Pectin is made from plants. Either way people need to realize that there is nothing wrong with eating gelatin and in fact it is a super useful product used in LOTS of things.

no animals are pointlessly killed to make jello. they are killed mainly for meat and leather. gelatin is just a by-product. if the animal is slaughtered, might as well take everything it offers and not just meat leather

From an evolutionary veiwpoint yes that is correct. However, I dont think that is a good enough way to justify the unnecessary killing of animals. Otherwise I should just make a deposit at a sperm bank, then go and jump off a cliff (figuratively speaking)...

I think sentient beings should be entitled to slightly more from life, and not be at the mercy of man-arbitrarily categorized into those that should be killed and those that should not.
