  • Two statements, firstly she is truly awful and secondly she is truly squeaky.

  • @Mad4john Not sing this with an American accent??? If we were to be purists, then there shouldn't have been a British version at all and this should have remained a French production through and through!

  • @mermanluponegoodreno "... ben pretendeeeeeeng." One of the reasons why Lea Michele is much more worth watching: true talent, pretty face, beautiful body, and NO speech defect!

  • It's funny how people are talking about Wicked. I think she'll do well either as Elphaba or Glinda, based on Idina's and Kristin's ugly, screechy voices. Sutton's voice is very squeaky - she's a natural at delivering WITCHY sounds!

  • @jgardell Excuse me! Lea Michele has sung "Defying Gravity" (with no less than its main star Idina Menzel) and she did a GREAT job without sounding witchy! But I guess you're right somehow: Sutton will be a "natural" at this witch role because she looks and sounds like a witch.

  • She's eating her words. Ugh!

  • So many dislikes and critcisms towards my idol. Why, why, why???

  • Can't wait to see Taylor Swift cover this! :)

  • @adrianaverdusco Taylor Swift? Maybe the movie WON'T be a musical, ha ha ha!

  • Samantha Barks, a reality show contestant and an "amateur" by theater standards, does a much better rendition.

  • She has an ugl voice and she can't act. Lea Michele, who is barely good in this role, is a bazillion times better!

  • @DveryOverratedSutton Um, Lea Michele is not "barely good" in this role, but yes, she's better than Sutton Foster.

  • @DveryOverratedSutton Duh! Lea Michele was good in this role! But thanks for not confusing her with this overrated performer.

  • Very nasal (esp.with "eee" and "i" sounds) and no emotions. "I've only BEN pretendeeeng?"??? The WORST verion of Eponine out there.

  • @thefroable Not really. With her squeaky voice and stiff acting, it's very obvious she was very subpar for this role.

  • Disappointing.

  • @giddyonupyall lol I think she's very lucky. Her voice is dime a dozen and her acting is nothing to write home about.

  • @omglolwhatever True. Sutton's voice is a dime a dozen and her inappropriate "acting" here is certainly nothing to write home about.

  • @giddyonupyall She was gifted with Two undeserved Tony. That's why everyone's calling her overrated, duh.

  • She is just horrible!

  • What's this preponderance of Eponine-wannabes! Annoying!

  • how long ago was this? why are people getting on her case? actors improve with time and experience... she's much better now.

  • And Barks was much prettier, too.

  • This is just awful.

  • @mdiamse That's a given.

  • As amateurish as she was for the role, Samantha Barks was actually better.

  • @mdiamse EVERYONE is better than Sutton Foster for this role. Lea Michele, with the softer and more expressive voice, is at least a million times than this gal with the squeaky voice.

  • @LeaMicheleBombshell I don't like your b*tchy idol at all, but I must give her credit for having a more beautiful voice than this "gal with the squeaky voice."

  • Strong singer, but not a good actress for this part. Overrated.

  • I don't know if it's just the lighting, but she looks like Bellatrix LeStrange a tiny bit

  • Obviously she hadn't read the book nor studied the character from the "experts" (Ruffelle and Salonga). Eponine is NOT a lunatic!

  • are you sure this is from the tour? cuz her bio says she was the eponine understudy on broadway in 2000?

  • @swimstar66 This is from the tour. She never got to actually play it on Broadway.

  • Squeaky voice singing in a whiny way...

  • THIS IS NOT WICKED.STOP TALKING ABOUT WICKED. THERE ARE OTHER SHOWS BESIDE WICKED ON BROADWAY

  • omg i had no idea she was in les miz! :O

  • @dottiedots221 That's okay. Her whiny performance didn't make any impact on Les Miz, anyway.

  • @af2un aww lol

  • @stephencolyer AMEN

  • @stephencolyer I think ANYONE can do better.

  • @Mad4john One of the most famous and well loved versions of this was by Lea Salonga.. With an American accent!

  • I'm a fan, but the abrupt cut in each line (she doesn't sustain notes) particularly during the first half of the song is very distracting (and her acting here does make her look psycho). I still love her and am amazed by her powerful voice. I'm sure she's learned so much for her experience now and she'll do a lot better given the chance to re-do the role (though she'd be too old now).

  • @sanjayame: You (and their many fans here) will be pleased to know that Sutton Foster and Lea Salonga just adore each other. Can't go wrong with these talented ladies...

  • She was fantastic in Millie and certainly did better in that role than in this one (understandably since she's no Lea Salonga), but I wouldn't rag on her for this performance.

  • @sanjayame27 She should have stuck to Millie. Over and over and over. All her other characters have been performances only her fans could take!

  • @DevilishAthena Yes.

  • Find the following on youtube... Marissa McGowan was an understudy, but her OMO might be the best live version I've ever seen.

  • I don't know, I like the Celia Keenan-Bolger performance better, it has more emotional depth to it.

  • @Thespianage Now I remember the name! Marissa and Celia were certainly much better! (Stronger voices with the more appropriate interpretation, not a psychotic version.)

  • I love sutton foster sooooo much but I just can't bring myself to like any Eponine with an american accent, it's just not right.

  • so i am a huge huge fan of sutton's but i thought this performance was a little nasal... but thats just my personal opinion. obviously she's fantastic

  • @stepheneros1990 Same here, but no, she's not incredible.

  • I absolutely love Sutton Foster. But I, personally, see Eponine having a voice more along the lines of Lea Michele or Lea Salonga. However, she portrays this character better than anyone I have ever seen.

  • She has an absolutely beautiful voice! I think there was a bit too much vibrato for my taste but she is very talented!

  • @steve1rox lol oh yes im not denying thats shes good...but i just happen to like suttons voice better and i guess to be fair the ages make a huge difference;)

  • she makes it look so effortless!!! NO FAIR!

  • @idk057 More like "lazy."

  • I still think Lea Salonga is the best Eponine but I love Sutton Foster's voice!

  • im pretty sure she's one of my idol's now. I totally had no idea she was eponine! she's amazing but what else is new. haha naw jk I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!! her voice is beautiful!

  • Sutton is amazing. I am really getting sick of the sugary-pop princess-y voices for Eponine, but her voice is stunning.

  • @collectingbees Stunningly squeaky...

  • holy fast vibrato sutton!

  • Actually, that approach is totally wrong....the less movement you make, especially with your arms, the stronger the performance. It's the amateur who gesticulates all over the place. It's one of the first things you learn as a performer.

  • @miyoshiumeki Now that's not always true. It depends on what you're singing. However, a ballad like this does require you to stand still and send your presence out.

  • @miyoshiumeki In her case, since since can't act, she needs to use her body so that the audience is able to connect the character to the lyrics.

  • Is it just me or does she hardly move her hands at all? She doesn't even hug herself! I looove her voice, and her facial expressions are truly moving. I just think she could do more with her arms. If I was sitting in the far back row, I wouldn't be able to see her face, so her whole body could've been doing just a tad more.

  • love it.....i have seen different version of the same song, yet this is the only one that make it seem real.....every girl has been in that situtation and knows how it feels......now u can see it in a song......pure perfection

  • Why can't I read any comments on these kind of videos without reading something about Wicked? Personally, I think the show is just a tad over-rated.

  • this is amazing. My favorite singer singing one of my favorite songs!! she puts so much emotion in her voice it makes the whole song into an extreme ...AWESOMENESS!!!

  • @thespiswolf : y does it matter what race the character is as long as the do the character justice and sing the songs beautifully?
