  • This is sublime!!!!!!!!

  • Sumi Jo is a superb vocalist; however, she is also a superb musician, in my opinion. Her phrasing is musical, & she has a true feel for coloratura, not merely great pipes.

  • who knows what she was thinking at 9:55 ... first time i see her so....thrilled?

  • @killerbunny123123 Maybe she thought "Oh.. Thanks God... This concert is finally over .... Oh..No!! Encores are waiting for me"...hehe.. just a joke...

  • @killerbunny123123 One more thing... at that time she caught a cold !! (I was shocked ... knowing that this horribly mad scene concert with a cold..) So maybe she thought " Thanks God!! I did it in spite of a cold".... Anyway I was there at that time... it was a just fantastic concert...~

  • @smoothiw lucky youTT__TT

  • This is the rendition that Joan Sutherland recorded way back in the 1960s ...but ..with a trill to die for! Jo is lovely though - and she does clearly far more look like the poor sweet Ophelia. Sutherland - still in my ear's mind the par excellence in this role - with all due respect - always looked as though she could have bench-pressed any Hamlet who crossed the stage.

  • Wow. That ending was was fantastic. I usually find a lot of her interpretations to be rather bland. This is fantastic!

  • Was the note at 9:24 an F sharp?? or an E? I have no idea about these things!

  • Eb (by score)

  • That is an e-natural. Then she pops up to an e-flat 9:36. I love this rendition!

  • @sandytheslayer I'm pretty sure it's an E. I checked a long time ago: the aria is in the key of B major, and that note is a "Fa."

  • So charming her timbre of voice and interpretation.

Also I find it so amazing that these oriental singers are able to sing all these languages that are so far away from their own language. Can you imagine us having to sing in Fillipine, Chinese or Yapanese. Just amazingly beautiful.

  • SUCH POWER! and she DID THE HIGH NOTES AS WELL! i love sumi.....*****

  • magnfique..j'en ai encor des frissons!!!

  • Role for her!

  • She´s just to good! everyone could love her and hate her at the same time!!

  • Imagine singing back-to-mad mad scene arias--I'd be nuts! But seriously, Jo is truly the victor. Congratulations!

  • something about her upper extension is lovely, but i agree with some posters, a bit forced. her runs and trills are to die for!

  • I like this, a lot. Usually I'm not a big fan of her vibrato, but here it works well for me. However, she did seem to struggle a bit with the high notes, though... A good version, nevertheless :)

  • Jo has a very beautiful, agile, vibrant and pure leggero voice. However, I think she could put a little more dramatic meaning in the musical phrases, as I also noticed the melody sometimes sounded sort of "mechanical" or underprepared in terms of expression and tempo. Her vocal interpretation was amazing (despite some flawed ornaments), but I think she could've used her spectacular vocal skills to make a better fusion of drama and music, especially since this is a Mad Scene. Anyway, brava!

  • Wonderful singer, wonderful conductor! I know their CD with Erato.

  • perfectly sung by Sumi Jo - as ever !

  • lovely voice.

  • i love the see through gown

  • Beautiful. I love Sumi Jo.. her control is absolutely amazing. She's beautiful, her voice is beautiful, her presence and performance are beautiful. IMO the best coloratura around. It's cute how she bounces around, too lol. I'd love to see a video of her playing this role.
