It's not a Hollywood ending when the bad guys get theirs -- unless by that they mean films of the Golden Age which passed into the mists of Turner Movie Classics 40 years ago. Under the guidance of the Marcias and Lorenzos Hollywood adopted moral relativism, so-called "real endings," and the like.
But like others here, I find it the height of intellectual dishonesty for these two to offer bias in place of criticism. I think they would've loved Foster's and Howard's characters' ambivalence.
You guys are partially right. The movie ended up being "revenge porn" because the bad guys got what they deserved and the good guys sailed off to a happy ending in a neat and tidy Hollywood B.S. ending. However, the performances of Jodie Foster and Terrence Howard were great and the beginning of the movie was a great study in what its like to be a victim of a crime. I am not disappointed that I saw it, but it fell short in a lot of ways. Plus, it was very implausible and coincidental at times.
I'm slightly disappointed that you two are tossing around a movie you have not yet seen. I too have not seen it, but I would like to rent it. Because it's not only revenge porn, but somehow it has "sweet Jodie" in it! I'm a great admirer of hers, and I think it will be fun to see her just once succumb to a glorious, shallow, gory vengeance plot.
lorenzo just wanted to say i just watched your movie three days . . . It was fabulous. there was not a superflous word. i sure wish they still made em the way you did! and yes alot of women want revenge. it's the same old story that power corrupts--as it has been for most of mankind's history.
Mark Chapman, who shot John Lennon, was carrying a copy of The Catcher and the Rye. Not sure where the Taxi Driver comment fits—maybe they're thinking of someone else?
The man who shot Ronald Reagan was influenced by the film "Taxi Driver." He saw himself as Travis Bickle and wanted to impress Jodie Foster, whom he had been stalking.
The Brave One got a standing ovation at the Toronto International Film Festival. Since, it's been reviewed by mostly male reviewers who, surprise, hate it. I hope every woman sees this movie. And please, do not talk about this movie unless you have seen the brutal attack on Jodi, her male fiance and her journey back (with the help of a sympathetic man).
Im glad he mentioned Death Wish, to which The Brave One is directly taken from. I guess the studio thought people would have forgotten about Death Wish long enough for them to make the same movie with a lame ass actress. That.....is gay as AIDS.
You didn't see a movie, but are reviewing it? If this were a 6th grade book review, you would both get a failing grade. Durrrr. I expected more than ignorant pooh-poohing from this normally excellent reviewing couple.
As a screenwriter you recognize and understand the story formulas well enough to review this film without having seen it. It is precisely this angle that makes your reviews so interesting.
Whilst I like your comments, it is totally stupid to review a movie you haven't seen. What is the point in being a movie reviewer if you're just going to pick and choose what you see, but not what you comment on?
Proof positive that in this McDonald's world of film-making, you don't actually have to see a movie to share an intelligent conversation about it. I found these two reviewers far more interesting than I would in seeing Jodie Foster slog through a script of political correctness gone mad. So refreshing to see REAL people sharing real thoughts, rather than plastic star-wannabes with vacuous commentary being spewer out on a teleprompter.
Whether or not they've seen the film yet, they are much more informed about it than most people who go to the cinema. They also have a wonderful collective vocabulary, which comes from seeing films & from writing. Perhaps the average American needs to change their subscription from People & Rolling Stone to Film Comment & The New Yorker. I'll watch every installment of Reel Geezers.
Just because they work in Hollywood doesn't mean they know what they're talking about. The guy said he wrote flops. Anyway, I think they're great but a bit pretentious to review something they haven't even seen. I still like them though!
I think it's a humble thing that he admits he worked on some flops. Flops in my own film career include: Howard the Duck and The Cave Man(Ringo Starr/Barbara Bach). Though they haven't seen the film, I think it's a good primer before someone see the film. They appreciate films and want others too. Pretty good intentions.

But I gotta admit, that gun/penis was funny, but I couldn't get any of my friends to admit what it clearly was.
