James Lomas one of the original Billy's used to live down my road. In my first ever show, he was in it and shortly after he was picked for the role down in London. Even though I barely knew him. I always think I was truly lucky to know a boy like him and to be on the same stage as him. :) xxxx
i saw this in london a few weeks ago and i love this song. I was dancing to this song in my chair.LOL from 4:50 when it gets faster it's a lot better.
I'm in billy elliot at stagecoach and i play mrs wilkinson, brilliant character, different words in some places,, hard work but will be a good performance. brilliant choreography in writing the script/song (Y)
Its meant to be a geordie accent. However i've been told its hard to do, I wouldn't know it comes naturally to me. Since I'm from Shields, which is near Newcastle :P
To be pedantic there are some cockneys in the play. The police have cockney accents. In fact the miners even sing that they are going to boot their arse 'back to Bethnal Green'. thats as East End as you can get
For god sake. you replied to one of my messges saying there were cockneys in the play. namely the police. you said there were not cockneys in the play. please read what i wrote and then stop talking nonsense. I know the main characters are from new castle. that is not what i said.
They are from County Duruhm, that accent is Newcastle :) Geordie, i should know because I am one, they put the accent on, I was a ballet dancer in the chorus about 3 years ago, worked with Trent. He's american, he puts it on. Unless people are from there, they are NOT cockneys. AT ALL! Well, some are but the accent in the performance is GEORDIE.. an attempt. :P
No, they get trained at voice school to do the accent :] Some are from Newcastle but most of them are from different places, Liam Mower was from Hull, Trent Kowalik was from America & 'Fox' that everyone loves is from Birmingham, moved to London.
i saw it at the victoria palace on the 13/11/08 and we did a workshop with person who played swing and learnt the finale dance it was fantastic fox played billy it made me cry and loads of others
Love thi song n i know so many people who have been in the musical in london bcoz i come from that sort of background and its great tht i come from the area tht the idea of billy elliot came from im in love with this musical its amazing

creaton1976 2 years ago
That's because many police were re-stationed to the north east during the miners strike to assist with the riots.

Cockneys are londoners.
These are from Durham which is kind of Brummy/Geordie.
