What is a sure fire way to beat the barrel level every time. I can't figure out a perfect strategy if I stay back once I get half way up and try to dodge the barrels until I have an opening sometimes they'll come at me in a formation I can't jump over and I die.

@Luigi84289 If I try to just be quick sometimes 2 will be coming at me on the ledge under DK and he'll throw one at me making it to where I have to take a hit. Anybody know the trick? Do you have to get the first hammer is that it? Does that allow you to get through the top every time?

Its a "glitch" you dont always get points for it if you jump to early, or something like that

It's not a glitch.Otherwise,it would have been fixed in the NES vershion.

When you jump, the game does a scan at the top of your jump arc and looks for barrels under you. If your joystick is pointed left or right, that scan looks at more area than if it's not. If you jump too soon or too late, you can miss points on barrels. It's almost always best to hold left or right when jumping a barrel.

run to the top as fast as possible and skip all the point pressing techniques and check your score. tops will be in the 5K range. Donkey Kong ends at level 22.

Maximizing points on every level is the only way to get a million point game

I will have to check the score, but you can jump off the corner ladder at the end of the first platform for a score of about 5.5k? Been years since ive done the jump glitch on lvl 1

@richieknucklez Very true, I had always been rushing to the top but clearly that's not the most effective strategy. My biggest fear is the barrels that come crashing down the level, very difficult to dodge and maintain proper jumping pattern timing. Also, timing is key when you've got the hammer, it's not an easy win against the barrels the way it is with the fireballs.

no. The fire ball jumping at the beginning is to offset the points lost from the bonus, but you can get a TON of points from the hammers. If you only go for bonus you'll get around 5,000 points, but it is possible to get 13,000 points using point pressing techniques

Is this MAME? And if so, which version of the DK rom is this? I'm curious because I've never ever seen 1.1 get THAT busy, even when grouping barrels and leaching.

Billy beat the taped high score and Wiebe's high score in a public setting. As much as I hate him, he is amazing and these games and does hold a legit record.

Billy's taped game looked so rigged. It was probably real but I have my doubts becuase it's funny how the tracking gets bad on the score side. He was such a prick to Steve Wiebe, always ducking him and then when he went into the gaming arcade how he was like "there are some people I prefer not to talk to" when Steve just said "Hi".

Well, if a twin galaxies referee is there for the game, it can count I think. Anyway, where did you hear it wasn't taped. Even if it wasn't, how do you come to the conclusion that twin galaxies is allowing Billy to....cheat or whatever you think he's doing.

yeah, I heard Billy Mitchell brag about reaching 13K but I am yet to see a video of over 10K I personally on my best most luckiest run hit just shy of 11K, but of course was not video taping that performance

@richieknucklez 13k has finally been officially beaten. The game looked like it could have gone more too. It was 13,100 but looked to be able to get 13,500 at least.

@MokeTip Yep, I've seen it. I'll never be able to have a score that high but have broke 11k. I haven't played that in awhile since I only play the arcade version now. Thanks for the info though.

this is good, but i've heard of people getting 13K on this screen. (of course my best is like 6000 lol)
