When I worked in Harrisburg in the 1980 's and 1990 's , I watched a group perform at a motel off 83 . I believe the group was called Pentagon , and a lobbyist I knew told me these were what was left of the Magnificent Men , whom I remembered from the Jerry Blavat Show on a UHF channel in Philadelphia in the 1970 's .. Was this true about Pentagon ?
The Mag Men used to play at my High School dance parties in the 60's. Bishop McDevitt in Harrisburg. Great memories. My friends and I modelled our band after their lineup and also played gigs at the school. We called ourselves "The Motivations". We had fun playing pool parties, college frat parties, etc. but we were never as good as these guys. They were our heroes.
@Madman0813 Great memories, madman! Thank you for sharing them. I wish I would have taken 83 North and caught a performance by The Motivations. I'm sure you guys were crowd pleasers.
Can you tell me what's on the flip side? i had a single way back in the late 60s that I could swear was The Magnificent Men doing "Function at the Junction" but I can't find this record in any internet searches (except on a grainy pic of the "live" album cover i see the song listed) thanks for any help!
@studiocityslicker The B side of "Stormy Weather" is "Much Much More of Your Love." It's another of my uploads if you want to hear it. I never saw "Function at the Junction" on a Magnificent Men single, only on the Live album that you mentioned. Shorty Long had a hit single with "Function." Thanks for your comment, my friend!
@sjsawyer It seems like more people are discovering the Mag Men via the Sly Stallone route than by any other means. So be it! Thanks for your comment!
Obviously the "allmusic guys" never saw the Magmen perform, the folks at The Apollo, The Uptown, and The Howard were all mistaken. God Bless The Magmen. Akeoldies
@akeoldies Thanks, pal! Those allmusic reviewers can be remarkably dismissive, and to me it's an indication that they are totally unfamiliar with the act that they're reviewing.
@akeoldies If I had to make a guess, the "allmusic" reviewer was probably 23 years old and fresh out of college. He hasn't a clue of what it takes to earn standing ovations at the Apollo, Howard, Uptown etc. Let me tell ya, hearing crowds screaming "More, More, More" after every show validates the music and the group. (I was lucky, I got paid to be there and hear it every night) The Mag Men's influence was far greater than most people will ever know and continues to this day.
@jerste I hear you! And somebody needs to give allmusic a clue for summing up the Mag Men as follows: "A short-lived group that didn't prove as exciting or invigorating as their name. The Magnificent Men were tailored along the same lines as the Soul Searchers, only they lacked the identical material, production, or skills. They disappeared almost as quickly they formed in the late '60s." Gimme a break!
I am not from the Camp Hill area and therefore I don't know the people you mentioned, but any friends of the Mag Men are friends of mine! Thanks again, Ake!
Although I haven't seen this Sly Stallone movie yet I recently learned about your song's use in it from Dell Rat Jerre. Thanks for your comment, Dave!
@themagmen yes watchin that movie got me into this song, i had to wait for the credits to see who sang it ....BY FAR THE BEST VERSION OF THIS SONG!!!!!

Has anybody out there seen the movie "SHADE"?
Stormy Weather is featured at the beginning of the movie, and a couple of times through out
the movie. I was blown away when I rented this movie, and heard my voice!!! Check it out!!
