it's not hate, it's obligation and duty, as in, if i don't fight, a lot more people will die. really surprised the first people to be conquered by the axis would completely miss the point.
ok guys.. i took this from the main page of this film.. this is basically what the movie is about: Its scale is irrelevant or the ideology that stands behind it, no matter whether it is two people or a million. Are followed by only a scar - the bloody traces the path of hate... "Paths Of Hate"is a short tale of beasts, which lie dormant deep in the human soul and push them into the abyss of blind hatred, rage and anger. Chasm that leads to the inevitable destruction and annihilation.
@patientzero532 I'm thinking that the artist is saying if you are consumed with hate, you are releasing your inner demons. But, it is hard not to hate, when all that you loved has been forcibly taken from you. There is really no right or wrong answer.
It is not necessarily a British pilot. Pilots from occupied Poland also flew for the R.A.F. along with pilots from other occupied countries. Would you agree that it is more feasible if the pilot was Polish, seeking revenge for what had happened to his homeland?
@ezbok43b Yeah, very good point. Quite possible. In that circumstance I would wonder why the only clue as to establishing the identity of the pilot -which was necessary to this work- was an RAF insignia. If identity were to be established beyond that, he might have had a brief cut of "Polski" on the pilot's shoulder. But then again, in the context (Polish artist) one might take it as given (Polish pilot). "Revenge" would suit the theme, more. Still, sad to paint him as "demonic".
@xfckup I would. Whereas the animation is phenomenal, the depiction of the two pilots -one the defender of his home, the other a Nazi invader- as equal of motivation, and intention, is deplorable. This is an outsiders PERCEPTION of what that war was like. Not the reality. So I guess all the soldiers who liberated the death camps are equally demonic? How would you characterize the troops on D-Day? Demons? I guess Spielberg is one, too. Likewise for all who support the vets. Hmm.
@patientzero532 Soldiers are told what they to do, no one is a hero for killing other peoples, sorry. Of course this is an outsiders perception, the war is over, and as you may have noticed, that the creator is a guy from Poland, a country that suffered quite a lot under the german occupation, so are you implying he did this to be relativistic about the questions who was good or bad in this war? I highly doubt it, this is a statement about human nature.
@patientzero532 Sure you're a hero for killing. You're an innocent guy from around the neighbourhood, who wants simple things out of life -a house, a job, a family- and you are sent during the best years of your life to go and do a shitty job like that, because the Fascists wanted a war, and they wouldn't stop..? Where diplomacy had no effect...? So you go, and take human life, because the only way to stop them is with a bullet. Makes you a god damed hero in my books.
@patientzero532 you can only clearly say which leaders are demonic :P..but when it comes to individual soldiers? i guess there were plenty of americnas on d-day killing prisoners, who didnt even wanted to be there defending those beaches, but they had to
@Danath23 And very unfortunate for them, too. They paid the price for one man's dream. Hardly seems fair. And more boys will kill out of terror, and self-preservation, than anger. This is why I reject the characterization in this animation outright. This was done by a person with no understanding of warfare. This is an animators PERCEPTION of what it was like. Very dramatic, but not even close to what it was all about.
@patientzero532 I think the creator meant to touch upon not a specific charactarization of soldiers, but human nature and humanity in general (hence the spartans and other historical figures portrayed at the end). Humanity will keep on fighting itself. why? because war is human nature. Is that good or bad? Im not sure. We are a violent creature, but it gives us determination. This animation depicts the human urge to fight to the end, so in a sense, it is what it was all about.
@StrigonLead Fair enough. I agree. The message is universal. However, one must also select the vehicle to deliver that message, carefully. He has chosen his medium (the animation) but the subjects (the pilots) do not suit the message. People here marched to that war not with lust, but with sad resignation, and a desire to end it as quickly as possible. The characterization of the British pilot is incongruous with this fact. This is my objection.
@patientzero532 He may be referencing Polish volunteers that flew Spitfires for the RAF, which would serve the theme better. Even if he was not, I have trouble imagining that British pilots would be flying into battle with "resignation." The Luftwaffe destroyed England. If I were a pilot for the RAF, I would hold extreme contempt for my enemy, and attack with passionate determination. Either scenario, I believe, supports this idea. But opinions are opinions and I respect yours :)
@StrigonLead Yes, good point. In this context, "Polish artist" might automat. imply "Polish pilot". In that case, I feel sad for the characterization of the Pole as "demonic". Likewise for an RAF pilot. I will always come back to this: Neither started the war. Both fought in the greater, nobler cause of defense, & driving out the invader. Demonizing them seems unfair. But it's art & a never-ending debate, albeit a refreshing & intellectual one, esp. for Youtube. Good job.
@patientzero532 I see your point of view, but I think what the author doesn't mean to demonize a certain person or group of people; i think he means more to expose the fact that as human beings, we all have this demonic side. And yea, like you said: there is no "right" opinion.
Are you the original creator/ owner of this animation? because I don't think this should be available for public yet. I recently went to an animation festival and saw this and the lady who showed it said that it's not allowed to be shown on the internet to qualify for an award...and to enter other festivals...
@turcca I can't believe he didn't credit the makers. If only there was a way to give credit to the individuals who were responsible for the vision and execution of art forms such as this. Someone should really come up with a method of listing names and attributions... it could come at the end of the sequence. We could call them "credits." Hey man, I think we're on to something, you and I.
The youtube user uploading this video didn't credit makers. After all, it's in the credits, as you so very cleverly pointed out. When you upload someone elses original work, I believe it's in good manners to credit makers or source in the description.
He's too close to use his guns, they are zeroed in for a set distance. Also, bullets won't ever bounce off 1/8th an inch of aluminum.... Art is beautiful but please be accurate.
@ASSEMblerEX I agree! How can they get those two obvious facts wrong? This film became complete shit because of those two inaccuracies. Fucking dumbasses.
What was used to animate this? I have an idea for something like a fight but really cant draw worth crap so computer animation is my next best thing. I have these epic images in my head but cant put them on paper. I'd love to put it on the computer though
@patientzero532 No. It's that war is pointless and turns us into monsters. You're either terrible at reading between the lines or a soldier. Maybe both.
@TheJalapeno I know a man who was born in a concentration camp. Maybe his parents could have just ASKED the nice men in the black uniforms to let them go. I'm sure they would have agreed.
Unfortunately, war sometimes serves a purpose. THAT war -the one depicted here- was the last clear fight against the forces of evil. They gave us NO CHOICE. We tried to sue for peace, but they wouldn't agree. War was inevitable.
So you're either hopelessly naive, or a teenager. Maybe both.
@Drunkenvalley Then by all means, enlighten me. HOW precisely do I show confusion? Is my relating of history incorrect? Are you confused as to my obvious allusion to WWII? War, is war, and THIS one was brutal. Particularly the bombing of Dresden. But then again, we didn't start it. We finished it, and we had no choice. I think the obvious choice would have been to NOT go to war with Germany, again. This animation completely fails to appreciate the zeitgeist of that era.
NOPE. It's nowhere about politics or who's the good and who's the bad guy. You seriously misread the message.
It's about the growing hate. No ammo? Low Fuel? Hello, WIFE photo? You've got a thing to come back to... Warnings... they could've just go back onto their airfields.
But they didn't. Because they felt that strange urge (called hate) to destroy. To destroy his enemy. No matter the consequences and conditions.
@JonPL No junior, I didn't misread anything. I've already had a long, and lengthy discussion on this with others, and I'm done now. Go back, and read it. I've no intention of repeating myself.

Hate caused concentration camps.

@JonPL No junior, I didn't misread anything. I've already had a long, and lengthy discussion on this with others, and I'm done now. Go back, and read it. I've no intention of repeating myself.
