  • i had never heard of that instrument before but it was good it sounded like a pro guitar

  • Love it. So beautiful on the dulcimer. A beautiful song. Thanks so much for sharing. Gwen

  • Very nice, Jimmy C:)

  • Hi. The sound of your dulcimer is great. What wood is used and what is your tuning? dad/daa? Thanks.

  • shroomer lol nice. shrooomzzzzzzz

  • very good I like to hear hymns on the mt dulcimer your style is similiar to mine when I finger pick. You must have played guitar previously.

    Joan Burroughs

  • i play to guzheng and zither and is more cool

  • The dulcimer is a fine instrument! It was my first musical insrument asnd still my favorite to play.

  • I've only just got a dulcimer and I love it! I wish I could play like this - it's beautiful!

  • @wellylover94 You will find that if you love to play your dulcimer just for the sweet sound it makes and try everything with patience, your fingers will eventually catch up to your mind. :) Play what you can play, but better each time, and you will have your own style in no time.

  • @unionshroomer Agreed. I have been playing myself for about 5 years off and on. Been playing guitar for about 15 years.

  • is there a difference between mountain dulcimer and appalachian dulcimer?

  • @wellylover94 no. there is no difference. They are also called lap dulcimers.

  • Very sweet, beautiful playing and arrangement for this song.

  • wonderful! nice rich sound!

  • Thank you for posting this, it was one of my Mom's favorites, and it brought tears to my eyes to hear it again. God Bless, and thank you again!

  • @BarticusMax Really? I'm glad it blessed you. I was raised on "good" music and that's all I play: hymns and Gospel songs.

  • Me too, I just received the "Pentecostal Hymns 1 and 2", and I found I knew about half the songs in there!!, and they all seem to lend themselves to the mixolidian tuning of the lap dulci. So simple even I can play it!!

    Thanks again!

Someday I hope to post some of my favorites when I am good enough.

  • this is very beautiful impressive

  • Great job. Is this a McSpadden from a kit or ready made? I built a McSpadden Sweet Song from a kit.

  • Written by my great-grandfather in 1914, C. Austin Miles. This piece made a lot of appearances in movies from the 50s 60s and even 80s. It was even, laughably, in an episode of "Little House" once. I liked it best in "Spencer's Mountain" with Maureen O'Hara singing it. I like it this way....old-fashioned. Oh, and it isn't a HYMN. It's a Gospel song. There's a difference.

I'm a soprano, but I've never sung this except at a funeral.

  • Sweet!!

  • Wonderful!

  • I lived in Martin, KY for a year as a teacher - one of the men I met there made me a lap dulcimer that hangs on my wall to this day. Beautiful.

  • Also my favorite hymn.....beautifully played

  • This is very well done thank you

  • nice . really peaceful, thanks

  • Outstanding playing. When are you going to post more?

    - Kevin

  • As soon as a get a better quality recording outfit...;-)
