h1b visa is not a visa which allows the worker to be sovereign. The worker is wedded to his employer and the employer usually makes the worker sign some kind of bond agreement making sure the employee stays with his master. The employers charge all sponsorship costs from the employee even though it is illegal because US laws are so pro corporate interests. H1b workers get paid below minimum if they are lucky and often times don't get paid at all for months.

Being from poland and as a new computer science grad from American college my experience was exactly the contrary. It took 3 months for me to land an OK offer while most of my American classmates got offers earlier than me. Many companies came to the on-campus job fair with a 'No sponsorship for H1B's', because of the saved cost and hassles from the immigration procedures.
It is clear that many companies will not sponsor H1B if they can hire an American.

I am an immigrant and I agree with Jared. The big corporations are looking for cheap labor at their disposal anytime they want. How many graduates in Engineering and Science are hired on campus in the US. Even with a masters degree graduates cant find jobs.
They need "YOUNG" workers????? That's age discrimination right there on the Video. This is such a lie, tech jobs are down 800k, H-1Bs are COUNTED in the unemployment stats and while employers say "talent" that means cheap and also means young...there is plenty of qualified workers around.
Someone should also note that immigration attorneys make billions processing all of these Visas so they have a vested interest to keep their "business" increasing.
As Mr Bernstein was trying to explain, the H1B visa program needs to be fixed before the caps are raised. Why? Because Indian outsourcers are misusing the program to displace American IT workers.
Why do other government, such as India and China, put restrictions on foreign ownership? Why is it so hard to fire someone in India? Because their governments, unlike ours, tries to do something for their workers. Do you think a H1B law would even pass in India? Not if the workers came from a country where wages were lower than India's...let's wake up everyone.

On an average the fee is $800-900 per credit at Masters Level. Each course has 3 credits = $2400-$2700. Each Degree has at least 10 courses = $24000 to $27000.This is just a tuition fee and at Masters level. Undergrads pay more. Next time before making comment get educated at a university and stop making lm comments in air.

h1b visa is not a visa which allows the worker to be sovereign. The worker is wedded to his employer and the employer usually makes the worker sign some kind of bond agreement making sure the employee stays with his master. The employers charge all sponsorship costs from the employee even though it is illegal because US laws are so pro corporate interests. H1b workers get paid below minimum if they are lucky and often times don't get paid at all for months.

These workers are to fill specialty positions when this talent cannot be secured from the local labor pool. Iam an indian IT programmer with 10 yrs of experience. I worked in US for 2 months.
But when i realised that they are training me to replace another single mother with 2 kids i couldnt stand it and i returned. Today iam trying to design a software and stuggling in my life. Atleast my conscience is clear. Iam sure one day i will make it big.
if iam ever successfull i will give the credit to that mother who trained me and made me understand what is programming.

According to the Dept. of Labor, 89% of H-1Bs go to Indian nationals. What is going on is that NASSCOM, India's IT lobby is PAYING our congress to allow it. In 1998, it was NASSCOM which hired a D.C. PR firm to put fake "news" stories in our media at the height of the 90s boom saying "Worker shortages". The H1 BS employees would live with 4 or more people in a 2 bedroom apartment send the earnings to the family in India and where paid much less. Now the employers are just opening offices in India at least for software and only keeping Americans to be customer facing. $9.22 per hour wage is a lie. I am international student on F1, I worked for summer internship for programmer position, and they pay me $25 per hour.
So, this is not even a job. It just an internship position for a programmer. So cheap labor is total myth and not true at all.
If I look around the peer American in computer science program, they are not hard working enough for their career and that's why empolyers find hard to hire many Americans.

Being from poland and as a new computer science grad from American college my experience was exactly the contrary. It took 3 months for me to land an OK offer while most of my American classmates got offers earlier than me. Many companies came to the on-campus job fair with a 'No sponsorship for H1B's', because of the saved cost and hassles from the immigration procedures.
It is clear that many companies will not sponsor H1B if they can hire an American.

It took me, a catholic female programmer to fix it. The only reason I was hired was because I passed myself off Jewish.

Actually, I've observed the following pattern: First, you flood your IT department with cheap H1-B workers, which hold salaries in check, forcing some the American workers out. Then, you send everything to India and even the H1-B guys get screwed.
This seems to be the current formula at the big US companies.
