We don't Have the death Penalty in The UK which I think is really good. Becuase Like you I believe in Life from start to finish, and plus what if you get the wrong guy you cant blike bring him back to life.
While it's possible to oppose abortion and support the death penalty, I don't think it's right to consider yourself prolife in a way. When I think about the idea of prolife, the ideals that come to mind are opposing war, abortion and the death penalty. Just the way I see it though. It's great what you're doing and don't let anyone get to you, although I'm sure thousands have told you that. Some people feel that instead of just saying why they disagree, they'd rather attack & belittle others.
I used to be very anti-death penalty, but then I looked it up in the Bible. The Bible says that if there are 2 or more witnesses of the crime, then the person may stand trial for death. And he/she may only be put to death if the crime was murder, kidnapping, or smiting their parents. (although someone would never be put to deat for smiting their parents nowadays)
Also I personally believe that if there is any sign at all that the person is the slightest bit crazy, he shouldn't be put to death
@MissLeanaFaith Your logic is flawed here. You clearly state that you will discount a portion of the bible for no reason, yet you are completely ok with the concept of the death penalty despite the fact that this too should be considered an outdated part of an ancient text. I have no problem using the bible as a general guide to live a decent, wholesome life. But to literally take a non-original (ie not original language) version of a text edited by old men hundreds of years ago is silly, no?
@IvelliousandValai I'm not disregarding a portion of the Bible, I just said that someone wouldn't be put to death for smiting their parents nowadays. Not that it was wrong, just that it wouldn't happen.
And if you have no problem using the Bible as a guide, then you should have no problem with this part of the Bible.
@MissLeanaFaith Yes, you are disregarding a portion of the Bible under the pretext of "you shouldn't be put to death for that nowadays." You are selecting that you think that is outdated and that other parts are not based on opinion. By doing this you are doing exactly what I'm saying: we should not use the bible as a literal law today, because so much of it is outdated (like being put to death for smiting your parents) and interpreting it is not factual, but rather personal preference.
@MissLeanaFaith In essence, yes, I understand you are saying just that it wouldn't happen today, but if your only reason for advocating for the death penalty is that it says so in the Bible, should you not also be pushing just as hard for people being put to death for smiting their parents specifically? I'm just saying, selectively picking out certain parts of the Bible and ignoring others is just using faith to push your agenda, not to be confused with having strong faith.
@IvelliousandValai Since my last comment I've been studying capital punishment in the New Testament. It tells us pretty much to obey the law, so long as it doesn't violate the word of God. I've come to realize that the death-penalty laws I spoke of earlier were Old Testament laws. The New Testament just tells us to obey the laws of our land, if they don't violate the word of God. The New Testament does condone the use of "the sword" (AKA the death penalty) in government.
I love the death penalty, nothing like a good death scentence. It's a beautiful thing. But an abortion is even more beautiful. I just wish I could kill a live baby after it's born HAHAHAHAHA
But it is the same as abortion when there is evidence that the condemed man is innocent like Troy Davis. I contacted the Georgia Right To life and they said "they have no position on the death penalty"
@AVoiceCrying33 There is NO evidence that Troy Davis was innocent. It's just the fact that people were questioning if the evidence they had was enough and solid enough to prove he was guilty beyond reasonable doubt and give him the death penalty. Personally I don't really think they had enough evidence to give him such a harsh sentence but that doesn't mean they had proof he was innocent.
@luckmagicandmiracles He may be innocent He may be guilty we will never know, Cameron Todd Willingham's Family will never know, a Fire inspector said that it looked like it wasn't arson. Rick Perry fired 3 people of the commision and executed him. If there is 1 shread of doubt, we shouldn't kill. 138 people were freed from Death Rowe. It is not issued fairly. If you are white and wealthy you will most likely not get the death penalty but if you are black and poor you will.
@AVoiceCrying33 actually the ethnicity wise more white people get the death penalty then black people but considering who the victim was if a white person was killed you're more likely to get the death penalty which I agree is completely unfair
@luckmagicandmiracles You can be pro-life and support the death penalty. You can not be pro-life and support the death penalty as is. The death penalty needs to be reformed and those that don't see it are blind or worse.
@AVoiceCrying33 I completely agree with you on this I understand you can be pro life and pro death penalty because it's two different situations and I am pro-death penalty but I'm probably one of the biggest supporters of having it reformed I think the way they use it like in what cases they decide to use it is completely ridiculous and rules need to be put into place to reform it.
there are several instances in the bible where leaders of jewish societies took the lives of criminals, i think thats enough to justify the death penalty.
What of the innocent people who are sentenced to death? Comparing the death of an innocent child, as you put it, to an innocent adult is comparable.
Also, do we really have the right to kill and abuse animals, just for our pleasures? Is this planet here for us to dominate - for us to control everything?
I'm pro-life and anti-death penalty too. However, if there was some reason society couldn't be protected unless a guilty person were killed, then I would have to be for it. But that's not the case in our society.
We all like to say God uses doctors to perform his miracles when we are sick. Is it too far fetched to say that God uses judges to perform his justice? Not saying it is a perfect system (we are human after all) but if God wants someone to die, it doesn't matter if a guy injects poison into the criminal on deathrow, or if he gets run over by a bus. It is going to happen. For me, I don't know much about how judges declare the death penalty, but i am pretty sure it isn't handed out on a whim
@containsaloevera That is such a lie. 24 days after conception, the baby's heart starts beating. How can you say that an unborn baby is not a child? And no matter what Planned Parenthood says, an abortion isn't safe. Besides, think of all the mental trauma the mother goes through. Is killing and innocent life worth the mental trauma? Besides, what about adoption? There's always adoption and I'm here because of adoption.
@bubbles1x Where did you get your information from? You are misinformed. The heart of a fetus only starts to beat at around 5 weeks after the last period. Illegal abortion isn't safe - and it will still happen if abortion is made illegal. Legal abortion is actually safer than carrying out a pregnancy. I'm glad that your biological mother decided giving you up for adoption was the right choice for her. For some people abortion is an easy decision, and for most, much less traumatic than adoption.
@containsaloevera So are you saying it's okay to kill a human just so your life can be easier? Maybe they shouldn't of had sex in the first place. I do believe there are circumstances where they can if there raped, though that'd still be a terrible thing. But that is the most selfish thing ever.
@OutkastsAndGleeks52 'Killing a human' and terminating a pregnancy are not the same thing. Sex is a natural and beautiful thing, and there's nothing wrong when it's consensual. Why do you think women who have sex should be punished by being pregnant? You're treating it as a punishment because you have sympathy for rape victims and allow them to gain control over their bodies. Sex is not just for procreation - why else do I have a clitoris? Sex can be for pleasure too.
@containsaloevera It is a life, and you saying that is fucked up. & no i don't you obviously need to be educated. I'll pray for you. Please realize the beauty of life, and theres way more to it than sex. I know it can be for "pleasure" but you shouldn't have sex if you don't want to take care of a baby. & there is adoption. Of course they have control of there bodies but so do the people inside of them. Think about what abortion is doing, it's killing babies. IT IS a human. That's terrible.
@OutkastsAndGleeks52 It is the potential for life. Is a miscarriage murder? Adoption is an alternative to parenthood, not pregnancy! If it's to do with my body, it's my choice and no one elses; whether I'm having sex for pleasure or for procreation. Sometimes the most responsible thing is to have an abortion; why would you rather force someone to carry out a pregnancy, when they aren't ready emotionally, physically, or financially? It would be stressful on the pregnant person and the fetus.
@containsaloevera You know, i'm not having this conversation. i realize that no matter what we say to each other we won't come to an agreement so there is no real point. so bye.
Haha. Oh my gosh. Haha. Abortion damages the mother permanently after the abortion. You have no idea what it does to their mental health afterwards. It deteriorates so badly. Post-abortion depression, post abortion syndrome (another form of PTSD). Do YOU think that's safe?
Oh. and you just actually kind of proved my point of "24 days after conception, the baby's heart starts beating." It's actually 4 weeks, which would be around 24 days, so cheers =)
I'm also anti-death penalty- I agree with the poster below..too many innocent people are killed through it and there is just no compensation for that. Not only does it end the life of the accused but their families will be traumatized so yeah. Not a fan (but I live in Australia where it's completely banned. Yay! Now Melbourne just have to get rid of their ridiculous abortion laws)
I am for all practical purposes opposed to it. I do see a difference between the guilty criminal and the innocent baby, but the problem is too many innocent people die in the death penalty.
Not wanting to be a troll here but you said "Humans are playing God by deciding who lives and who dies". So in a technical context we play God when we kill terrorists who attack American cities, we play god when we choose to save someone through advanced medical technology and we definitely play God when we send aid to other countries.
@chocchipcookiegirl We are saving lives of people that would have died. And according to suey's statement only "God has the right to kill and save someone".
I'm opposed to the death penalty simply because our legal system is flawed. Too many people have been found to be innocent after years of incarceration, so there's a high likelihood that innocent people have been executed as well. 'Oops. sorry' doesn't cut it. Totally separate issue from aborting a child, though.
You are also aware of how expensive it is to keep prisoners on a life sentence right. about 38,000 dollars of your tax money goes to a person serving a life sentence. in Oregon that's more than the average income a person gets. This is something where draconic values should be considered more acceptable, if you willfully and intently (with sanity being the only exception) kill someone, it's only fair if you're killed in return, by civilized law of course, because revenge doesn't really solve.
I'm not so sure you can be pro-life and pro-death penalty. You can be anti-abortion and pro-death penalty, but doesn't pro-life imply protecting all life? I don't know, maybe it's just a case of semantics.
@Shoots1978 With animals they aren't made in the image of God. Only we are made in the image of God. And Solomon said in Ecc 3, that animals when their spirit returns to the earth, and mankind returns to the Lord, for judgment (Hebrews 9:27). Hope that helps you somewhat?
I agree that a person can be pro life and not pro death penalty. Now, when a state doesn't punish a murderer with death penalty that criminal could kill again inside or outside the prison. That is not protecting the lives of our society.
And about playing God, many don't know that the Lord Himself was the One who established capital punishment to protect our owns lives which He consider sacred. Example of this are Genesis 9 and Romans 13. God bless!
