Freedom of expression is an important means to cleanse organization/religions/ companies of flaws that may creep into them over time.

Yes, criticising sati pratha has done good to society. But that was never a part of Hindu culture. It started only when Muslims attackers started invading India. Wives of big Indian rulers used to commit gauhar on a mass scale since dirty muslims didn't even spare the dead bodies of hindu women.
