He strums down the Strings above his nut and has a flange Pedal set on full effect and kicks it on for that split second. Took me forever to figure that out because he's been doing that for many years and it confused me.

It's an effect for like when you have a floyd rose tremolo system, you can pull the bar backwards, so the string sounds at a higher pitch.. but in Paul's case he does that..
