my friend's mother was a hostess in that plane, she died.

It was terrible story; the youngest of the dead was my poor neighbour living in Kotebe. She was on board to go to Nairobi to join somebody who promised the family to take her to US as a pay back for what the father did to this person while she was a child. The father was a servant in their family (sponsor) he was the one who was taking care of all the children in the home, especially he had unique tribute to this person. Sadly the repay was this unexpected one!

Hi. I just wrote an article about terrorism and Ethiopia and learned about this disaster. There are rumors that this was one of Al Qaeda's first go-rounds at terrorism (as there were Israelis, U.S. intelligence and the ambassador from Ethiopia aboard). Any thoughts on this?

I doubt the rumors are true - the Ethiopian government looked up the men and found no connections whatsoever - they likely were in prison

To thelostduck, Try not to be scared. There has been a lot of improvement in air security and we keep getting better. There are things that we know now that were not known then and I think we are now taking the issue seriously and doing what needs to be done with Air marshals and the checking before boarding. 3 people decided to 'make history' and kill 125 passengers. A father held 3 little children (ages 6, 4 and 2 years) on his lap throughout this ordeal. They all died in the crash. That family was my husband and our 3 children. I say for all who died... R.I.P. and for the ones left behind, stay strong for loved ones who endured torture for nearly 4 hours. Thank God after 911 the cockpits are now secure. This should probably have been implemented long before... God Bless.

Cajun, hijacking a plane with an axe would work since the person could kill the pilot with the axe. Also the men claimed there were 11 of them and that they had a bomb - this instilled fear in the pre-2001 passengers
