  • Depression is something I've had to go through periodically ever since I was eight years old. I am now nineteen and was recently diagnosed with manic dpression (bipolar). I've attempted suiide three times, and I'm gladI've failed. I believe I would have been helped sooner had I talked to someone earlier on. Rob, I think that you are correct about not talking because some believe it's for the weak. I'm not a boy, but I can identify with men, and have a strong sense of duty towards my family that

  • @ResidentCheerful has often led me to believe I must protect my younger siblings. I now believe that there is a point in which duty can overcome the person and soon that duty is the person. I don't expect an answer to this, I'm simply typing this out for the anonymous world to view for I have learned the importance of spewing out random nonsense for the sake of one's sanity.

  • maybe its a guilty conscience

  • @tonykeywest07, you should have a guilty conscience for trolling around youtube, and spouting off your Westboro Baptist church bullshit. Get a life LOSER!

  • @lisztnut fags have no conscience

  • @tonykeywest07Yes, Fags DO have a conscience, and that's why we think it's immoral to vote on civil rights. I'm gay married in California and do NOT want MY marriage up for a vote by the ignorant majority.

  • @tonykeywest07, I encourage all our viewers to click on tonykeywest07's profile and read the vile stuff he's been spewing out. He belongs to a radical Christian hillbilly group whose only purpose in life is to bash gays.... Beware....!

  • The first time I got seriously depressed I cried and wanted to kill myself. Not a good feeling

  • I'm rarely depressed about being gay, in itself, but more about not being good at being gay - both my own stupid ideas of what a gay man is and the ideas both straight and gay people put on me and each other. About not feeling desired or even accepted by other gay people, or the so called community - which I know is more than the ghettos or the scene, but they are still the more visible parts - bitchy, appearance-obsessed parts... I've known a lot of guys socially, but have no close gay friends

  • Thanks for being so honest and open about urself. Its great to hear, so thank you.

    Matthew

  • Thank you for this video, I could really relate to what you were saying. I also often find it really depressing being in a rut. I like to feel like what I'm doing is taking me somewhere. You seem like such a beautiful person, I hope you manage to stay out of depresion.

  • You seem very balanced but you have a lot more of life to experience yet.

Even if you are not daft enough to build your life around being young and attractive you will find that depression is a big issue as you get older.

BUT - you can organise ove rthe years ahead.

Think of friends you can really trust when you become dependant and less mobile.

You can also help organise a scheme to ensure good health care for elderly child less Gay people - including home visits and residential care. Think!

  • Hey Carl,

I'm bi-polar, used to be called manic depression, I take an anti depressant and a mood stabilizer, at 52 I'm doing ok.

    joey

  • Hi Rob,

Thanks for you video on depression. I'm a 60 year old gay man, and that's depressing the shit out of me all by itself.

In my mind I don't feel 60. I imagine myself in your age bracket all the time. That's one of my problems. When I was your age, I knew something was wrong, but didn't quite know what. I thought I could just shake it off if I got married like everyone else...WRONG!.. In the 70, I was in perfect denial,

but not happy. 2 weeks ago I came out to my family.

  • Everyone was great, my son was the best, except my mother. I never met my father, so no grief from him. I'm now hoping to find a nice man and finally

turn my life around. Sorry for all the doom and gloom.

I hope everything is well with you. I love your videos. I'm subscribed. You're wonderful....

  • Oh, also, I went to lunch with a friend today and decided to tell him I'm gay. He said, so am I. I would never have guessed. I felt like a million bucks..

  • i can relate to almost everything you said.

  • I hate taking about depression - it's so depressing, LOL! Glad to hear you're alright, now!

  • thank you for sharing your experience, good luck with the uni exams ;D

  • Inspiring and thanks for this.

  • I love the way u share with ease! U r INCREDIBLE! Depression comes at all ages and making sure that it is addressed properly is important! Love ur vid! Love&SMiles Tim

  • so crying for no reason is caused by depression? I don't feel that depressed but I tend to cry for no reason. But it's understandable during a hallmark commercial.

  • it could be deprssion it could just be your body reacting to something.

  • loved this one... I would only add two things and that is that there are many hot-lines now in the US for people having depressing thoughts. And that it is okay, and good to look and ask for help if/when you feel down. Depression is a serious thing that sometimes talking doesn't fix and sometimes medication can help... Don't take pills unless you need them but don't stay in the gutter either!!!

  • A lot of people can't talk to someone about it. Especially someone they don't even know that is miles away.

  • Hey Rob I think you are really awesome. I enjoyed talking to you on blogtv. you too have a good week and keep smiling. keep

    it real. take care,Marty

  • Sir, you are too young to grow a beard or whatever. I am spiriling through depression by the hour, but enough about me. I just found this awesome video to a kid I subscribed to. He will cure your depression. : ) Click on his latest video bobthedevastator1 I also have a huge passion for piano solos. Mannnnnnnnnn love em. I have in my favorites a link to a guy who made 200+

  • This is interesting. I can relate in almost everything you mentioned. Thanks for sharing. =)

  • I can relate to what you say about depression. I would say that i have also suffered with depression since i was about 13/14. It does help loads having people around who are willing to listen!

Goood luck with your exams =)

  • I'm doing Movember too.

If anyone is reading this my rego number is 1354981.

I'd love it if you could go to the site and sponsor me.

    :D

  • It's great that you can talk about that here on YT. I personally don't talk about depression, whether it being here or otherwise... probably not the healthiest thing.

It's just hard to find someone you can trust that much (and I really don't want to burden my family). Anyway... these days I'm ok and hope you are, too :)

    <3

  • I noticed you had a boxing picture in the opening montage. Are you a fan? If so, who are your favourite boxers and who makes your list of the all-time greats?

  • Haha, not really, just had a postcard with some people boxing on it, and it was a cool design so I used it in my postcards video, and I just mimicked the expression on one of the boxers face :)

But thanks for the interest lol

  • Oh. I just thought you might have been a fan since I thought the opening was a series of your interests.

  • I absolutly love you. But as I was watching the video, i wondered what the ring on your pinky was for???

  • I wish I could tell some amazing story about it, but really it was just a cool simple stainless steel ring that I found in a little vendor in a shopping mall and the only finger it fits is my right pinky :)

  • Thank you for talking about such a personal issue. That takes a lot of courage.

  • I totally agree with you about talking to someone. When I was younger I didn't tell anyone anything/problems. Looking back life would be easier lol.

Good luck with exams. I have a few coming up yikes!

  • Good luck on your exams! I hope you do super awesome :)

  • Bravo, Rob! Bravo! You are brave to speak so openly about depression on youtube. Kudos.

  • Rob, I am very proud of you.

    I'm doing Movember too !

  • I've always delt with depression pretty much all of my life. Mostly due to lonliness and isoltation, I think. There were some tuff times here and there but I've made it through them so far. I have a friend who as delt with a much deeper depression and was hospitalized at one point for it. It was so sad to see him go trough that but happily he is now pretty much back to being himself again which is wonderful. Im glad you bring these subjects up. They are important. You're a good man, Rob!

  • Thanks :)

  • Acknowledging you have depression issues is half the battle, though you should know that it is much more common than most people realize & that it's normal for the adolescent years to add to the turbulence of emotions one feels. Being aware of your sexuality before coming out and losing a parent would understandably aggravate any pre-existing conditions.

Good luck with your movember endeavor.

  • Sorry, not my Dad, my Pop died (my Mum's dad)

Thanks for the comment, Chris :)

  • it's fantastic how open you are. i don't think i've ever experienced true depression, even when my dad died. however, i was 12 at the time, so i'm sure it would have affected me a lot more now. sometimes i feel unsatisfied with my life, but not depressed about it...at least not yet. haha.

  • May you raise lots of moolah with your mo. I just donated towards your first downy whiskers that should be coming along shortly.

  • Thank you soo much!

  • depression...its roots in my case would be the realization of not being able to have what I desire most.

  • Hey. Just donated a little wish I could help with more but Uni fees are high in the states. Dont grow it out too long! Thanks for sharing this and good luck!

  • Hey Rob. You're the awesomest kind of awesome! Good advice and story!

  • Thanks James :)

  • Worthy causes, Rob! I've sponsored you. And thanks for sharing so much from your personal life. I expect you are pretty much universally respected and admired on YouTube. <3

  • Thanks so much :)

  • Thanks for sharing Rob !

  • I have experienced depression in some stage of my life too. Having a friend to talk to always makes things easier. Glad that you have got over it pretty well. Good luck and take care! :)

  • Thanks :)

  • I understand what you mean about depression coming and going. It happens to me sometimes, but it always goes away after a bit.

I hope you don't have to feel those feelings anymore, we all love you and we're all here for you no matter what.

  • Thanks Kylie :)

  • Great video, Rob. I've had lots of ups and downs in my own life, mostly stemming from intense feelings of loneliness and lack of control/purpose.

  • Hug! I've been there.
