Colloquial autonomy is not identical to autonomous region in a legal or administrative context as defined by any given governing body. Since there are five administrative autonomous regions in preserving traditions in People's Republic of China, autonomous regions couldn't be a lie.
The UK, Canada, the United States, Russia (the Soviet Union then), Australia, and the European Union, for example, are all forms of multinational unitary state with multiple governing-areas.

Strengthening Chinese territorial borders and unifying a foreign invaded and divided China to form a constitutional republic, communist or not, cannot be a world problem. Many Tibetan Chinese and Tibetan Buddhist Lamas who are critical of communist China consider themselves Chinese and are proud of their communist Chinese citizenship by their own declarations, writings, and accomplishments. Many related ethnicities and nationalities in Tibet, China, and Mongolia certainly consider each other brothers and sisters by shared history, ties, and assimilated customs.

The Roman and British empires, the 13-14th C. Mongol Empire that covered the contiguous continents from Asia to Eastern Europe, and the citizenries of all modern day republics do not validate your "nationality by similar languages only" assertion.
Likewise, "nationality only by similar languages" is also not true for Tibetans, since Tibetans have acquired non-Sino-Tibetan nationalities (or of non-Indic languages) overseas.

BTW, Tibetans do kill each other and non-Tibetans and had it not been the Mongols, the Chinese, the British, or the Americans moderating or supporting the Dalai Lama, the lives of the Dalai Lama were very short due to Tibetan political intrigues and assassinations among the Bon and the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism.
