  • Genius.

  • Your video is a favorite on Caracas

  • Long before the days of universal hi-vis vests!

  • More superb stuff Mr A. I had to grimace when I saw the tight clearance between the VDA and the loco in the shunting part! Presumably this wasn't MOD property you were stood on for this section.. That wall (or whatever its was) is just at the right height too! Again the weathering on the cab showed up lovely.

  • Love watching this in the middle of winter.Nostalgia, can't beat it.Got any more?

  • Is that a ford orion, at 1:40 ? lol

  • great video well done

  • It's great to see one of them pulling goods :)

  • She's loud too :) I think I remember seeing one of these class 46's as D199 at Llangollen during day out with Thomas.

  • They always look like they wouldn't be able to take a bend with those 8 pairs of wheels

  • I agree you don't get summers like that anymore! Such a shame these little freight workings have all but disappeared (and most of the lines too!). What were these trains carrying?

  • @britishbulldog5505 MOD stuff. That is what the Warcop branch was used for mainly.

  • really enjoyed watching that if only nothing had of changed since then bet them sidings don't exsist anymore and they've built houses or a supermarket on the land.

  • @Trainbuff2008 It is now a preserved line!

  • every now and then you come across an absolute gem on YT, this is definately one ! the quality of film for it's age is just superb !! Right, where's that railmap .....Warcop .....

  • The Class 46s looked like the Class 45s but differed in terms with transmissions, control gears and engine cooling methods.

  • Yes, the class 46s were heavier too at 138 tonnes; compared to the 136 tonnes of a class 45. Suffice to say, class 46s were the heaviest locos to run on BR, heavier even than class 40s (133 tonnes).

  • A hot summers day, the call of a yellowhammer and the sound of a Peak

    Bliss!

  • You don't get summers like that anymore!

  • Thats a lovely bit of film - TY for posting it! Kinda surprising to see they used such a heavy loco on that rpey old though?

  • Did you know that 46 051 has probably been scrapped and its TOPS number was D188. If 11 more had been built, D199 would have been a locomotive, this is probably where W.V. Awdry got D199 from. I know it does not make any sense whatsoever.

  • 46051 was withdrawn in December 1983 and scrapped at Swindon in April 1984.

  • There were supposed to have been another 20 Class 46s built as numbered D194-99 and D1500-13. Production ended abruptly at D193 with the much of the withheld equipment being used in the first 20 Class 47s instead.

  • You mean its old number was D188 and its TOPS (total operating processing system) being 46051. By the way. There was meant to have been another 20 Class 46s to be built as D194-99 and D1500-13 but abruptly cancelled in favour of the first 20 Class 47s.

  • Has the Warcop branch been lifted now or did they leave it after the MOD stopped using it ?

  • The track to Warcop is still in situ and is part of a preservation scheme in the hands of the Eden Valley Railway.

  • Warcop branch 46:Well done no 12! Great to see some well filmed archive stuff. Attractive 'pastoral' scenes. I love the shots taken against the light. Footage of this quality not often seen on Youtube!

  • i cant believe the MOD now feel this traffic is better carried by road now ,dis graceful ,i remember walking along this branch, the trackbed from kirby stephen and arriving at warcop sidings in the late eighties ,climbing across a fairly substantial old bridge over a fast flowing river

  • was this the 46 that i remember seeing outside doncaster works for a long time ,and is now on the llangollen railway, why didnt you film it reversing onto the branch at applleby

  • No, that was 46 010.

We didn't film it reversing because my Dad was a panic merchant and wanted to be in position to film it along the branch.

  • yes i realise that now ,i think it was the 46 010 hellfire clip that got me thinking of 46 010.never saw any 46s in service but only a few 45s ,co incidently 46 010 is the only 46 i remember seeing on BR, dumped outside doncaster works(have pic somewhere)many thanks for some great clips and to your dad

  • the 45s or type 4s are outstanding sulzer locomotives.
