Balance problems...happen when you arrange fine music like this for a modern and period instrument..it is a bit of shame, expecially coming from established performers.
Well, balance issues are complicated even in a pure period group. I can never hear the theorbo, sometimes even the harpsichord in a pure period instrument concert. I think what is a good balance is a relative concept. With an open mind I would look at the overall effect, which sounds good to me in this case...
I agree to a point...possibly having an open tuning for the guitar(in the song's key of course) would produce a more lute-like effect and resonate better and cut through some more....
