  • I feel so sorry for the phantom. He can't help being deformed. And he's way more Christine's type. I think he should have got the girl. :(

  • Raoul's Hair cracks me up.

  • i think, i know... Raoul is not Christines type HE NEEDS HIS HAIR CUT!, the Phantom is Betrayed by Christine...he gave her song and the way she betrays him if i was her i would do this: ***i would stay with the phantom idc what happen to his face he gave you the gift of song plus i think The Phantom&Christine sound so cute together Raoul is not good looking Ugh and they sound horrable together!!!*** Thank you...i saw the play,Read the book, saw the movie, has posters i luv the whole story! <333

  • LOL the comment below me. LIKEx1000000

  • raoul, cut your hair, thats all i ask of you

  • The movie is more visual and emotional, but the book Is truly amazing, if uv only seen the movie, READ THE BOOK!!

  • I absolutely love how Raoul sang "Christine I love you" my god . . .breathtaking

  • @HopelessRainie Lol so the phantom is dragonborn? xD

  • @TheNightcloudHATER: If you don't like it why do you watch it????? I think that this movie is nice. but really if you hate it WHY do you watch it?????? answer please

  • RAOUL SUCKS K

  • In the original play/show, christine IS scared of the phantom and raoul really DID save her by promising her safety and light! THIS MOVIE USED SEX APPEAL TO GET YOUNGER AUDIENCES LIKE YOU STUPID PHANTOM SUPPORTERS! GO SEE THE ORIGINAL PLAY!

  • @TheNightcloudHATER It's cute how you're raging over something as trivial as the following of a character like the Phantom. I like him because even though he's portrayed as this tragically dark, complex character, if you look hard enough it's easy to reason his actions. His entire life has been abuse, neglect, and loneliness. He meets Christine and believes her to be able to save him from himself. He simply becomes infatuated with her--that is, he fell in love with the IDEA of her.

  • i love how she says " I must go, they'll wonder where i am" love that.

  • <3 the song!

  • great song but the recording could be better

  • so i think we all can agree that Erik (The Phantom) deserves someone to love him, just not Christine, right?

  • uhmm Raoul loved christine when they were children but got separated, then meets again then love...the phantom was a murderer, creep, kinda crazy, he wasnt in love with christine for a long time unlike raoul... it seems that the phantom was the protagonist but he is the antagonist of this show based on the plot

  • @cjisavailable Yep, definitely a creeper, and probably not actually interested in her happiness if he's willing to tear her away from the man who she obviously loves. If the phantom was less attractive like he was in the Las Vegas show I saw, I have a feeling some people would change their opinion x__x

  • @cjisavailable I actually like the phantom

  • I personally loved the phantom as a character better than Raoul because he was way more complex and a bad-ass. However we have to remember that even though I hate Raoul as a character, the Phantom is the real villain. I mean I personally think he was an annoying character too, but the Phantom was a psychopath and a murderer. The book makes that point really clear, and before the movies came out, everyone hated the phantom. The two are so dis similar.

  • I meant never when i said love necer dies

  • If you read the second book called love necer dies then you will see that christine was actually suppose to be with phantom. Raoul cheated on her and was a drinker. Phantom and christie had a child.

  • @tokidokikawii123 Love Never Dies was not written by Gason Leroux, the original author. If you read the actual story you'd find that what occurs in Love Never Dies couldn't have happened. Even Webber, who wrote Love Never Dies, says that he doesn't consider it a sequel to the book but a stand alone piece.

  • You kids don't know anything. Raoul was in love with Christine when they were children and then they were separated for years and Raoul didn't know where she was, that is why he is surprised/excited when he realizes that is her when she sings "Think of me". The phantom has loved her since she was working in the opera and heard her voice.

  • I think she fell for the wrong one but i love the meaning to the song.

  • i can watch this a 100 times per day..i love how raoul stares at christine..kilig!!!!!

  • "Say you'll love me every waking moment" The Phantom does that way more than Raoul! Grrrrr...

  • i agree Raoul was a jerk after all it all comes to Christine's choice

  • i always loved this movie

  • God. I feel so sorry for the phantom. To spend your whole life in the ruins of a theatre, wasting away, lonely. And then you finally find her, and you fall in love. Then this faggot comes out of the blue and you see everything you ever had slip away. Fuck Raoul.

  • @Fikelberry and you know he was the better of the two because he let her go even when he loved her. Raoul only got her because he had a cute face, it is a life like story if you really think about it.

  • I don't like Raoul. And I love the Phantom. But I must admit that Raoul is mildly clever. In the masquerade scene he is the ONLY character who even tried to go after the Phantom. nobody else even moved. Come on guys! There's the Phantom! Let's catch him so we can give him the hugs he deserves!

  • i want a red cape :(

  • My favorite song!!

  • Affected ra kaau mo..movie ra na..HAHAHA

  • What makes Raoul so repulsive? He is very much like an innocent, sweet (kind of... not smart) puppy dog. Yes, the movie version of the Phantom is probably the best, most romantic character (until he tries to kill everyone) ever made up, but even in comparison, Raoul isn't a horrible character. Same with Carlotta. Annoying, yes. But she is absolutely hilarious.

Even though Raoul doesn't really believe Christine about the Phantom (but who, outside the Opera, would?), he does fight and care for her

  • PHANTOM HAS THE BEST PART IN THIS SCENE....JUST SAYING

  • I love this song

  • this is the greatest musical ever written, i will get tired of singing along and wishing i could be the phantom in the west end

  • Every time I hear this song, I feel like my heart is going to explode! THIS is what deep down every girl or woman wants. A man to protect, provide, lead and guide her. One love, one lifetime. Sigh!

  • I'm so torn between Phantom and Raoul...

  • everytime i hear this song, i automatically think about me and my bf :D i feel like the two of them are like how we are, lol

  • I dont know why so many people hate Raoul.

Only because the phantom is played by Gerard..........

Raoul loves Christine with his whole heart so he deserves Christine and the Phantom kills every one who stand in his way..........

    My opinion make your choice..........

  • @pettie090 i beleive that the reason for the hate towards raoul is the phantom has been in love with christine for years he had gave her singing lessons late at night as she grew up and he had fallen in love with her and she had fallen in love with the phantom the raoul shows up and she automaticall goes to himand the phatom became heart broken and it became a love triangle

  • @kokainxxx Yes but the phantom kills people and Raoul only protects Christine.

And Raoul and Christine where also childhood sweethearts............

  • @pettie090 He murdered a complete asshole. It's inane to defend him for doing that, but please note that he has no moral compass, he was abused and neglected as a child, and with losing Christine he lost all meaning his life had ever since he went into hiding.

Considering all that, that he didn't kill Raoul and left Christine to make that choice shows he was not as "evil" as you seem to want to portray him to be.

  • @Iced1992 He killed bouqet and yes that was a asshole but he also killed Piangi and i don't think that he is 'evil'. I only don't like him because he kills people

  • @pettie090 He killed him AFTER he should've broken the chandelier, after he was betrayed. That was the point.

  • @Iced1992 Touche!

  • @Iced1992 p.s. That would be why she has the Phantom's child in Andrew Lloyd Webber's sequel he made for this play. "Love Never Dies". Look it up on Wiki.

  • @pettie090 that may be so but she hadnt seen raoul in so long then she juss automaticall goes right back to him thats what sent the phantom off the deep end

  • <3

  • I love this song! The best love song! :)

  • I love this song "Say you'll love me, Share one love, One Life Time <3 "

  • That is the most sweetest song that I ever listen too!

  • I love the phantom, he's so kind, so lonely, and so lovely! I wish raoul didnt get in the way.

  • a FUS-RO-DAH would have been the best ending.

  • I'm a guy, so I prefer Christine? lol but my mom says she prefers Raoul, because she doesn't want to be with a psychopathic killer.

  • ok this settles all the arguing phantom is a badass and raoul is a pussy.

  • raoul looks like ashton kutcher

  • Not to mention that Phantom is kind of a deranged killer that will manipulate anyone and anything to get what he wants. I can totally picture him killing Christine in a fit of rage cause she didn't want to do something for him. This isn't to say I hate the phantom. I don't. I think it would be a great love story if Christine could bring him back from the brink. But it just doesn't work. And I know if ANY ONE OF YOU were in Christine's shoes, realistically you would pick Raoul every time. Done.

  • @tomahawk3100

He loves her to much to EVER harm her. He was the way he was for her.

  • People need to get the notion out of their head that the phantom is "hot". Gerard Butler was a terrible casting decision for the Phantom. Not cause he's a bad singer, but cause he doesn't fit the part. For one thing, he had a face NOT EVEN a mother could love. For another, Madame Giry found him when she was young. This makes phantom at least TWICE Christine's age. Instead of Gerard Butler, think of a deformed Jack Nicholson.

  • Ok I've had enough of all the Raoul hating. Lets start with the "he only noticed her after she sang" argument...He's known her since she was a little girl. They grew up together..if anything the phantom didn't notice until after she sang. He didn't even know she EXISTED until she came to the opera house. Now lets think of it this way: Raoul can be a jerk, yes. He is effeminate, yes. But he truly does love Christine and care about her. He would die for her. Plus he is not deformed. Next, Phantom

  • @tomahawk3100

Love is from within. You can't say you can't love someone because of a deformation. The Phantom only acts the way he does because he would do ANYTHING for her.

  • People hate Raoul for many different reasons. I think Raoul is a person without much sympathy. Remember what he said when he heard of the story of the Phantom. “Genius had become madness”(something like that). While for most people, we should have sympathy for him after hearing the story. He showed no sympathy.

  • my favorite song of this movie

  • The point in here is the phantom got so selfish! He was only thinking about himself. nothing but himself

  • the Phantom was selfish! and way older than Christine... but that is not the point! they had true love and the Phantom was willing to kill, lie, and keep Christine against her will because he "loved" her. She was the innocence he never had and a beauty he could never grasp.. Love, but in a sick twisted way until he lets her go and then it becomes kinda healthy. Raoul and Christine <3

  • OOH!!! the phantom must be SOO torn apart! I feel his pain...

  • @MaryhadaLtmb123 I agree 100%

  • i cried at this part because of the phantom :'(

  • 2:40 the phantom is maybe thinking "OH NO YOU DIDNT SAY GIRL"

  • I love how Raoul ONLY notices Christine after she sings, where as the Phantom has been in love with her for like....FOREVER! Pshhhh I'm Team Phantom! (Boo Team Raoul!) Lol :p

  • @MaryhadaLtmb123 lol im with you on that one!

  • @MaryhadaLtmb123 same, i always thought she should have chosen the phantom of the opera, even though of his face without mask :p

  • @MaryhadaLtmb123 Raoul loved Christine as a child so really he's known and loved her longer!

  • @MaryhadaLtmb123 The book has a better twist in my opinion. Raoul and Christine have been in love since kids and the phantom is this psychopath madman who thinks Christine can redeem him. :O Try it out

  • @ElfenLied8389 p.s. I'm Team Phantom all the way though XD

  • @MaryhadaLtmb123 um hello! he hasn't seen her in forever. maybe she used to sing for him, and he recognized her voice that way!

  • phantom shouldved "this is sparta-ed" raoul off the damn roof

  • @lilome87 ahahaha lol your too funny, but that is sooo true XD

  • @lilome87 You mean "FUS RO DAH'd?" ;)

  • @lilome87 that should've been an alternate ending. i would've died laughing.

  • if all men were like Raoul, the world would be a better place(:

  • I really don't understand why Raoul gets so much hate. He really loved her and wanted to protect her ( don't even bring up Love Never Dies.. we all know that shouldn't even exist). The Phantom loved her, but it was more of an unhealthy love.

  • She truly is Shameless. Rossum definitely deserves an Emmy. Oh, Puns Of The Orator...

  • it's so hard to believe she was only 18 here!

  • @PianoMan1191 She was 16 during most of the filming. Only towards the end of filming she was barely 17.

  • if i had to single out one scene from this movie, this would be it. beautifully done. terrific singers.

  • YOU WILL CURRRRRRSE THE DAY YOU DID NOT DOOOOOO!

  • love this song. :)

  • Beautiful.

  • @klgrif it's the phantom

  • Aww, Raoul is really a sweetheart ^_^ I don't see why he's so hated, he truly loves her. So does Erik, but still. He shouldn't be hated for loving Christine.

  • 4:08

Christine + Raul: -Start making out-

    Erik: Ew!!! -looks away-

  • @Azunyan1025 xD!

  • If you take this song out of the context of this musical, it's one of the sweetest romantic songs ever. In context, it's the most frustrating because majority of the audience wants Christine to end up with the Phantom. Either way I'm still a fan (though Raoul can still go fall down a hole)

  • 4:08 to 4:11 ... who hasn't felt that in their lives.

  • Is it just me or whenever someone says Christine's name twice there's a echo? O.o?

  • I keep thinking that maybe I remembered Emmy's performance was worse than it really is, but then I watch videos like this...how the hell did she get this role? But then, I guess people were deluded into thinking Gerard Butler could pull it off too...

  • omg at 3:22 chills went down my spine. She is so talented!

  • Poor Phantom

  • Gerard clicked the dislike button 176 times

  • I personally prefer the Phantom over Raoul, because to me, beauty is found within, and Raoul was kind of a jerk....

Phantom, I would have done all you asked of me.....

  • @IluvLegendofZelda Yea he was. The next seen when the phantom comes in with the knife he ran out of the room!!! What a wimp. SMH

And hell to the yes I would too lol he sings better and Gerard Butler sooooo delicious ;) haha

  • @IluvLegendofZelda totally agree! haha, i didnt care too much for Raoul either, Phantom all day :P

  • @IluvLegendofZelda Raoul was kind of a jerk, but I think murder trumps jerk in the scale of meanness...

  • @IluvLegendofZelda

    me too! :p

  • @IluvLegendofZelda totally agree and the phantom was way hotter then raoul in the first place

  • @IluvLegendofZelda the phantom was murdering people. i guess you probably have only watched this version of the story but if you knew the backstory between raoul and christine you'd like him more.

  • That Raoul is a gifted man. ;)

  • Pft to all the people fighting for e/c or r/c

In a situation like this, I find one solution always works: I'd just take both of them. ;)

  • Aww I feel bad at 2:39 phantom is like WTF! Noo ;_;

  • I want to play this awesome song at my wedding 3

  • @voldo352 Indeed. It's surprisingly surpassed in the 2011 25th anniversary Musical Recording.

  • wow... all the other versions the guys are almost always amazing but then the girl is so so but this time i melted the moment i heard her sing

  • They stopped kissing to sing. Heck, if I was kissing a good looking guy I wouldn't stop kissing him to sing!

  • Let me start with this: "I love the Phantom" and I do think that Christine should have been with the Phantom but.. I do understand... I do love the phantom but Raoul and Christine were "childhood sweethearts" and if you were in a calm mood and you took off a handsome strangers mask, would you not be, even just the smallst bit, freaked out?.. I am upset about the ending but does it not make you think that it is a great start for "Love Never Die's?"

  • @LittleMissKarate Love Never Dies did not at all make sense, so not really. At the end of this movie, mind you, she asks "Will I now be prey for your lust for flesh?" As in: they never did anything, nor would they have in Victorian times without marriage, and especially because she believed the Phantom was in fact an Angel. Sex makes no sense at all, anywhere in this story.

  • @Iced1992 I know, it states that the phantom is a virgin and I stated nothing about sex... Love Never Dies, though I have not seen it, I know greatly about it, and I think that the starting is grand.... And in thoughs, the Phantom gave Christine a gift, her voice, insperation and made her "Soul take flight". I still dont like Roul though,,,, hes an idiot ;)

  • @LittleMissKarate Nah, you don't understand: Love Never Dies says they had sex during the time of the original Phantom of the Opera.

That's why I said it does not make sense that it would lead into LND: they never had sex according to POTO.

And yes, Raoul is a tool, in this version at least. The 2011 25th anniversary edition Raoul was grand though, and Karimloo (<3) played the phantom like a totally maniacal creep. :D

  • such a wonderful movie and the cast are great...love it!!!

  • fantomen på operan är fin

  • is it true that anne hathaway was supposted to get the female lead in this movie?? :o

  • Oh my God such gorgeous men and they can sing. Especially Raoul...but I love Gerard! His heartbroken look hurts my heart- and it actually gets me every time I see this movie. Superb! Bravo

  • It's funny how the title of the movie is phantom of the opera and she doesn't pick him right

  • @angelinac63 Nope, not really. Much like the fact that every other movie title isn't funny.

  • I Have Nothing But compliments for this Movie! Its Wonderful! The Music absolutely is Fantastic!!

  • Erik need a hug! :'(

  • I would have picked Raoul in a heartbeat in this movie. It's not a tough choice. I've been a Phantom fan all my life and in all other versions, I prefer the Phantom. But in this movie? Raoul. Easily. I regret nothing.

  • @TheGreatPumpkin79 Strange, I think that out of all the versions, the 2004 film makes the strongest case for E/C.

    1. Gerard Butler's Erik actually looks like a human being save for a disfigurement which can be covered up anyway, vs. Lon Chaney's Erik (which is a more accurate depiction because, from the book, the Phantom's primary physical characteristic is supposed to be that he's damn ugly)

    2. Many fans are won over by Erik's singing

    3. He's less of a stalker in this film

  • Comment removed

  • @Eatlimepie Whether the movie is more E/C or not is irrelevant to me. I want Raoul all to myself, Christine can go off with Gerik if she wants LOL But I think Gerik is MORE of a stalker in the movie, given the fact that he's been watching Christine ever since she was a small child, which is pretty creepy.

Gerik's singing may win some fans over, but I prefer the likes of Crawford, Karimloo, Panaro, Mauer, McGillin, Jones, Carpenter, Cudia...

  • @TheGreatPumpkin79 That's not creepy. You people are completely unsympathetic to the fact that the Phantom was brutalized, beaten and abused as a child, and that he knew no one else than Christine in his entire lifetime. He lost his entire lifeline when she rejected him, and it's a miracle the Phantom got as socially adjusted as he appears.

That said, the movie makes no sense for these exact reasons.

  • love love love love love love love love love love love this song!!!!!!

  • That strange moment that you really are disgusted by the 1st top comment. ;s

  • My reasoning is permenantly distorted, by Gerard Butler.

  • Erik's like "You two timin bitch!"

  • Erik's better. I don't care.

  • I nearly cried when I saw Erik listening in. So sad. The back stabber!

  • @SaigaEcano i know poor erik :(

  • I swear these ppl keep screwing themselves. YOU DON'T GIVE

THE PHANTOM HIS BOX SEAT, your screwed. YOU WILL NOT

LET CHRISTINE BE THE LEAD IN ll MUTO, your screwed.

    THIS HAPPENS, YOUR SCREWED.

  • I went to see this in The Artscape Theatre on December 21st....It was beautiful but I didn't really like the Phantom singing (HE DIDN'T HAVE A BARITONE VOICE!!!!) and Carlotta (too screeching voice)......

Anyway it's beautiful. It's frightning but it's beautiful....

THANK YOU ADREW LLOYD WEBBER FOR COMING UP WITH THE PAHNTOM OF THE OPERA!!!!!!!

  • @cathead772 Well, the Phantom of the Opera was written by Gaston Leroux, but Webber made it into a musical.

  • Raoul: Anywhere you go, let me go too, Christine, that's all I ask of you.

Christine: Say you'll let me cut your hair, that's all I ask of you.

  • Don't understand why people think this movie is crap...I LOVE it!! X3

  • I went to see this at Her Majestys Theatre in August 2011, and I came out crying.... Thats how good it is! LOVE the movie and LOVE the stage version. You havn't experienced the Phantom until you see it live. Totally blown away! xxxxx

  • @MissHatterX Totally. I saw it at Princess of Wales theatre in Toronto. It was absolutely breathtaking!

  • @Diabetty115 <3 I need to go and see it again!

  • I can't decide wither Erik is evil or if I should be sad for him. He's a creepy stalker with way too much possessiveness. Yet again, no one's ever loved him for being him. I just can't decide

  • @Proudnerd2013 He was too possessive of her. He loved her too much to let anyone love her. Erik was evil but that's because they where planning to get rid of him.

I also have a question. How is Madame Giry not scared of the Phantom and knows so much about him? Is she the one pushing him in the chair when there doing the gambling thing?

  • Raoul: Christine, Christine

    Erik: christine..

    Christine:O.o

  • Broadway Musical schmaltz at its best. And I mean that as a compliment. Emmy Rossum's voice is as lovely and engaging as her face. Any heterosexual man with a hearbeat has to fall in love with her.

  • @Zeppolino100 not everyone has a heart.

  • They cut out the phantoms part :( I was waiting for that -/3

  • my friend told me to come and watch this... so i did....

  • oh my heart broke when the phantom came out from his hiding place and picked up the rose.

  • @2011karin Ur a fag then

  • Raoul, I'm not really into stalkers

  • Aw poor phantom I wulda pickd him I cried wit him

  • i love the phantom , i'd choose him <3 xx

  • id choose Raoul

  • aw Phanthom, my heart breaks with yours. :(

  • The Phantom disliked this video 170 times....

  • Hate Raoul in the movies, but the Phantom in the book is like, a total jerk and major stalker. Raoul seems so sweet and innocent in the books.

    Love this song.

  • @mapresyrup Very true!

I used to sympathize with the Phantom, but after reading the book, im not too sure.. Nor am I sure about the phrase "all's fair in love and war" anymore because of this..

  • Can't stand Raoul. Love this song so much. O.o

  • SAY YOUL SHARE WITH ME ONE LOVE ONE LIFETIME

  • LOVE U PHANTOM

  • i love this , its so special to me... is it wrong to love someone in a movie?

  • Everyone should stop being poops lol

btw, thanks for putting this song up, best quality on YouTube :) haha love it

  • Raoul is such a patronising drip. I really like Patrick Wilson though, he's a good actor and a lovely voice.
