Saw one of these in Calgary years ago, but this looks like Maui. This piece along with all of his other acrylics was cast by Colbar Art Inc. out of NY. The product used is Smooth-On's crystal clear I believe. It is a very difficult and lengthy process to create these. Lots of craftsmanship involved!!
This piece is cast acrylic. It was initially done out of clay then a rubber-like mold was created to make duplicates. The resin is poured into the mold then removed when hardened. This piece is titled, Three Graces and is a limited edition of 470.
WOW! I do a lot of 3D CAD and this is amazing. To have the vision and ability to transform something into such beauty and mystery. What a truly talented and visionary mind. THANKS FOR THE CLIP!
This piece is still commercially available. I bought mine last year in Miami for 7K. It's quite beautiful. I believe the model was his wife...but the light refraction yields three haunting images within the acrylic...the Three Graces. It IS an affirmation of life...and when lit, vivifies my studio space. At the risk of the accusation of elitism....this is high art...which takes real training and SKILL to execute...and Hart seems to manage to capture the spiritual essence of his themes. Always.
Looks like this was filmed outside of Lahaina Galleries on Maui. I can tell by the reflection on the window of accross the street. The piece is titled: Three Graces and was recently placed in the St.Petersburg Museum in Russia. I haven't been there but I hear it's one of the most beautiful museums in the world. Frederick Hart is the ONLY American ever ever asked to be part of it. He is/was our modern-day Michaelangelo single-handedly bringing back Renaisance Art.
frederick hart- his pieces are hauntingly beautiful- it is unfortunate of his passing- but his legacy will live on- one of the last master sculptors of the 20th century-thanks for this
