Ron Capps had an incident one time at the top-end , where the explosion blew the body and firewall back onto him and he couldn't get to the brake handle . I highly doubt Sott was knocked out or burned up in the fireball . Those suits can go 30-45 sec.s in pure fire , before anything starts to char . It's a rare possibility that some of the underbody support tubing may have blown back , puncturing and incapacitating him . He didn't have any brakes on , all the way to the end .

This video was of an NHRA 2 time champ who got killed and I for one, hope that the explosion knocked him out before the fire got him. It appears that way as after the blow up, the chutes came out on autoswitch and then Scott didn't apply any brakes or seem to be trying to stop the car. It's my hope that he was gone before that horrible fire engulfed him. I hate to think he drove the fireball while conscious. RIP Scott

On NHRA's site , latest news is that they've decreased the track timing distance to 1000' for Top fuel and Funnycar . This is a temporary measure for the short term , until they've taken further measures for safety . They are looking at parachute fire safety , braking , engine failure , facility safety and many more issues .

one thing that i can think off that the engines are exploding alot more violently is because of the percentage increase on the nitro, even 1% can make a big difference, i mean, look at tony pedregon, twice he had hugh explosions, i think nhra needs to bring down the nitro percentage back to normal
I know NHRA a few years back were looking at 1000 ft. instead of 1320 . The racers are going to run on the ragged edge on the 1/8th or the 1/4 . The amount of time at WOT is cut in half obviously . You also gain an 1/8th mile of shutdown and top fuel are running 250-270 mph at the eighth right now . I know it sucks but we can't lose more racers just so fans can see the big numbers .
as a drag racer myself, moving to 1/8 mile will mean the engines need to be pushed even more. The engines now are pushed to a certain limit for one reason...to make it until that finish line each race...imagine how much more they'regoing to try to push it at 1/8 mile. Trust me no one wants to watch cars only go 150 MPH...doesnt matter how far its how fast. RIP Scott.
you obviously dont know much about drag racing. Most of the engine damage happens towards the end of the track, after the 1,000 foot mark. Dont even say im wrong because Jim Head and Don Prudhomme say the same thing. They both say that if it were up to them, they would shorten the drag races from 1\4th to 1\8th.

That track has one of the longest run off area on the tour, and he was more then likely killed when the first explosion happened.
The only thing that could have kept him alive is if the cockpits of these cars were some sort of safety cocoon completely cut off from the engine and drivetrain.
These cars are rear-brake vehicles, and they're stopped by levers, not brake pedals. What's not to say the brakes were also messed up in the explosion? Whoever said the chutes were the primary stopping power is a douche canoe. They help, but they slow it down to make it easier to stop.

The cars do have brakes, but lets face reality. What brake pad is going to stop a 330 mph car everytime? That is why the chutes are the main braking system. I have seen these cars blow up and lose their chutes. However, the drivers have been able to stop the cars 90%. Scott was most likely knocked out as he didn't even turn on the fire bottles, or slow the car down when it exploded. That is a good indication right there. Speculation is the motor landed by Pension Rd which is a good distance away

Despite this crash, it must mean that safety technology must be pretty intense and robust as much as it can be in these race cars.

WOW! me my mom and my dad and my BFF were going to EnglishTown were the race is but we didnt go because it looked like it was going to rain but it never did any way. I bet all the racers hate this track. My dad said that some racer a long time ago died her too. God bless Scott K.

On NHRA's site , latest news is that they've decreased the track timing distance to 1000' for Top fuel and Funnycar . This is a temporary measure for the short term , until they've taken further measures for safety . They are looking at parachute fire safety , braking , engine failure , facility safety and many more issues .

one thing that i can think off that the engines are exploding alot more violently is because of the percentage increase on the nitro, even 1% can make a big difference, i mean, look at tony pedregon, twice he had hugh explosions, i think nhra needs to bring down the nitro percentage back to normal

I know NHRA a few years back were looking at 1000 ft. instead of 1320 . The racers are going to run on the ragged edge on the 1/8th or the 1/4 . The amount of time at WOT is cut in half obviously . You also gain an 1/8th mile of shutdown and top fuel are running 250-270 mph at the eighth right now . I know it sucks but we can't lose more racers just so fans can see the big numbers .

as a drag racer myself, moving to 1/8 mile will mean the engines need to be pushed even more. The engines now are pushed to a certain limit for one reason...to make it until that finish line each race...imagine how much more they'regoing to try to push it at 1/8 mile. Trust me no one wants to watch cars only go 150 MPH...doesnt matter how far its how fast. RIP Scott.

you obviously dont know much about drag racing. Most of the engine damage happens towards the end of the track, after the 1,000 foot mark. Dont even say im wrong because Jim Head and Don Prudhomme say the same thing. They both say that if it were up to them, they would shorten the drag races from 1\4th to 1\8th.

I have a hard time converting 1/8 mile times into 1/4 mile but if it means a huge safety factor , then so it shall be in my book .

That old track with it's short run off area and a concrete wall and poles at the end, of all things, most likely took that mans life. While the NHRA, raking in millions from these racers putting their ass on the line for the fans and because they love what they do, can't drop some bucks along with the Napp family to accomodate for the speeds and update a track built in 1965? That track has one of the longest run off area on the tour, and he was more then likely killed when the first explosion happened.
The only thing that could have kept him alive is if the cockpits of these cars were some sort of safety cocoon completely cut off from the engine and drivetrain.

These cars are rear-brake vehicles, and they're stopped by levers, not brake pedals. What's not to say the brakes were also messed up in the explosion? Whoever said the chutes were the primary stopping power is a douche canoe. They help, but they slow it down to make it easier to stop.

The cars do have brakes, but lets face reality. What brake pad is going to stop a 330 mph car everytime? That is why the chutes are the main braking system. I have seen these cars blow up and lose their chutes. However, the drivers have been able to stop the cars 90%. Scott was most likely knocked out as he didn't even turn on the fire bottles, or slow the car down when it exploded. That is a good indication right there. Speculation is the motor landed by Pension Rd which is a good distance away
