    Okay, I cannot find your comment back to me. However, deregulation assumes (incorrectly) that the big businesses/and big banks will have strong ethics and not try to milk the consumer. This is wrong because businesses always try to milk the consumer if they are deregulated. YOU may not want all regulation dropped, but many of my Repub. associates do.

    You must be a man; I know plenty of guys that wanted Jessica Simpson to run for office so they could look @ her... pretty sad!

    Alright fair enough, I'll take back what I said because it was pretty harsh, I was just mad about something when I posted it.

    Here is my true opinion.

    If I did a study and found out that people originally born in Florida made less than people in born in California by 18%, and started protesting about it... Would you support my cause?

  • @CabeBiken10 No, because you are basing your "cause" on the notion that if Floridians are earning less than Californians this must mean that they are doing less work, which is bull. Some, if not most of the hardest working people in the world are those earning the lowest wages.

    But you wouldn't join my cause if I told you that the workers from Florida were working just as hard as the people from California and still getting paid less?

  • @CabeBiken10 If a coal miner hits a large seam of coal and therefore digs out more coal than, say, the neighbouring coal mine, despite the fact that they might be working just as hard, should the miners only get paid for the amount of coal they mine or the amount of work done? I would argue for the latter. In the UK we smashed the old system of pay for produce during the first half of the 20th century.

  • @PinkoRants Then we are on two different wave links, I think a person should get paid according to the outcome of there work, not the work itself. I could go into the woods and work harder than 100 lawyers chopping wood, and have 300 pounds of wood to show for it. But who would get paid more?

  • @CabeBiken10 We'll have to agree to disagree. What I would ask is that, coming back to the coal mine analogy, is it right for the miners not to be paid despite their continued hard work just because they may not have reached a good seam of coal?

    My answer to your question is obvious: No, for all the reasons I have stated. You believe that hardwork shouldn't equate to a decent wage, only results should, whereas I believe that hardwork should be rewarded regardless.

  • @PinkoRants You have to understand that in the miner analogy, The miners would still be paid regardless of what they find (Who would take a job that wouldn't) But the neighbor mine who found more coal, should be paid MORE because the product of there work was greater.

  • @CabeBiken10 Bonuses might be ok in some circumstances, but I'm talking more specifically about a system whereby pay was based soley on produce obtained. I guess we've gone a little off topic.

    Relating this to the womens pay debate, are you suggesting that men should therefore be paid more by default on the basis that sometimes they are more productive, and therefore label women as the less productive sex?

    What I'm saying is, I don't think women are getting paid less because there employer is necessarily discriminating against them because they are a women. I think the employers are paying/promoting employees according to there productiveness.

  • @CabeBiken10 (continued) For example my girlfriend works for a golf company. It's very male dominated, near enough all of the management team are men. She works a lower-middle supervisory job for the same pay as a regular shopfloor worker and she often has to tackle workloads many times the size she should be tackling, yet her male counterparts are often given less work and are pushed forward for promotion based upon their gender rather than their productivity. They're seen as "one of the boys"

    I want to know how sure are you that your girlfriend is getting discriminated against for being a women? I've worked in many places and not once seen a women get discriminated against. I use to work at a restaurant as a waiter. It could be really stressful some times.

    I think a lot of these women want to be treated like a man when it's to their benifit, but want to be treated like a women at other times (for example when they cry over "too much stress")

  • @CabeBiken10 The impression you gave when you said "If you worked as hard as men you would probably make as much" pretty much speaks for itself, you were gender stereotyping. Men are not more productive than women. There are many examples of situations were women work harder than men, the difference is in many cases women are not recognised or properly awarded for their contribution. Men are often chosen over women for promotion based upon gender stereotyping by male dominated industries.

  • @ntn1987 If only that were true. I used to work as a Healthcare Assistant getting paid pitance, yet HCAs have a far higher workload and sometimes more responsibilites than many of their higher paid collegues.

  • Does anyone know the reason given for needing a statue of limitations for filing discrimination lawsuits? Lily Ledbetter didn't file her lawsuit until after 19 years. I wonder if her particular case was the best to base this Act on since 19 years is an unusually long amount of time to file a discrimination suit.

    Look up the law in question - Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2007. (Go ahead - look it up.) Women currently have the right to sue for discrimination - McCain voted against removing the statute of limitations only.

    The Republican philosophy is big business/ self-regulation and small government/ little - no regulations on business.

    He was towing the politcal line (if you recall from 2008) to get businesses to endorse him.

    I don't think that McCain was the lesser of the 2 evils.

    I think he had no new ideas and was riding Geo. W. Bush's politics which was a sure loss. He inserted Sarah Palin into the mix to spice things up and get the women to vote. However, he forgot.... no one rallies behind the 1st mate - they rally behind the Captain.

  • In addition, a lot of these pay disparities become glaring the FURTHER UP the ladder you climb. As such, women will sometimes go through many gradual pay increases before they discover that they are climbing at a different rate from their male peers--again, making this tiny 6 month statute absolutely useless.

  • What's not being mentioned here is the RIDICULOUS shortness of this statue of limitations. It's not remotely long enough for a woman to even BEGIN to discover that she is being discriminated against. The clock starts ticking the day she is given her official salary, after which she has something akin to 180 days to discover the inequity and sue her employer. Which is ridiculous, beings as discussing salary with peers is not allowed, and most women only find out AFTER the job ends.
