Mr. Rollins, you made me stand up for myself. You inspired me to workout. And I say, thank you Hank. Without your example of life, I would be a fat ass watching how my life gets wasted, with a low self opinion.
this isn't, nor could it ever be emo. angst, yes. but emo is too pussy to even swat at you, let alone slap you. this kicks you in the motherfuckin' teeth!
Henry Rollin's songs deserve a genre of their very own. Never in the history of music has brutal self-honesty been used so effectively as a confrontational tool between the singer and audience. I thought I was alone in life twenty years ago. Now I listen again and it tears my heart out because nothing has changed. I see I am uniquely damned, therefore, damned to uniquely suffer.
We can say we don't like it and it sucks just as easy as you can say why are we wasting our breath. Its a free world full of free speach. Now I personally do not like this and I will say it as often as I like!
Seriously, if you DON'T like it...then why the hell are you wasting precious time and breath bitching about it? Maybe because you have nothing better to with your life...how sad is that. Don't like it, don't fucking listen...simple.
How dare you talk shit about the mighty rollins. Here is the deal Henry Rollins>You Maybe you should research they guy a little before you critisize what you know nothing about.
this song like soooo many of his songs... sucks. ill just holler shit in the Mic to some kinda rock music and flex alot... fucking lame. like r.e.m with a tough beat.
@treetrunkss940 troll attempt??? really, are you eleven? The simple fact that you felt the need to respond is proof of an EPIC WIN!!! Now go give yourself a timeout for talking back to your elders...
@1dngrdave you must have a really low self opinion to consider this an epic win actually i am 7....................months...........i love you, rickshaws r cool
After all I read on Rollins I'm pretty sure many of his lyrics are based on himself, in different moments of his life, including this song. That's why it sounds so true and people who experience the same things can identify and deal with it. That's the beauty of art.
i heard this song on a 'beavis and butt-head' episode back in the 90's. it rocked then, still rocks today. thank u, B&B, as u 2 would say, "this is cool! huh-huh, huh-huh-huh, huh, huh, huh-huh, huh-huh, huh-huh-huh!"
@dengatoman I was just being silly but the way he sings and what he's saying kinda makes it feel like he's singing just to you. Cause some of that shit is true! For me, anyway. How dare that bastard throw truths in my face like that! Hahaha.
I've thought about my comments. Please excuse me, he is not a violent person at all. But I think that guy made a very bad decision. He did what I think I would do and not to get on the wrong side of him. Don't fuck with a very tough guy and annoy him.
Such an awesome band with such brilliant tracks. I've seen them twice in my life and both times were brilliant. For such a hardcore band which I love they were the heaviest band I'd seen thus far in my life. I saw them first in 1992 at Melbourne Uni. About half way through their set a guy invaded the stage and started slam-dancing or something like that. Henry waited for a solo. Then he went up to the guy and punched him and nearly took his head off.
Then they finished the song and Henry spoke to the crowd with a tongue in cheek. It went something like this. "You are all welcome to come on the stage and pretend you are a rock star for a moment. But if you do that's what will fucking happen to you". Whoo hoo!!! I then seen them at The Livid Festival near Brisbane Australia in 1997. Yes they were soooooooooooo good!!!
I love some Rollins, pretty much any era, although I though his final band lineup wasn't quite as solid as anything Rollins did from the 80's all the way to "Come In And Burn." As a musician, I definitely consider him an influence. I have a band called No More People and some of my other influences include Rage Against the Machine, Ministry and old Metallica. You can click on my name to see my music video. Thanks and enjoy.
@prodigynitrogen oh okay thanks man i cant believe i didnt know that ive been playing bass for a year hahhaa i play funk thats why not punk but i wanna start learning punk like this
When someone says "lighten up" or "why are you sad/angry" when I'm trying to enjoy myself, I feel like killing them. So fucking annoying, it like, I'm there, I'm having a few drinks, laughing, told a story, and apperantly, I STILL LOOK MISERABLE?! WHAT THE FUCK DO THEY WANT ME TO DO?? Dress as Bozo the clown and put on a fucking show for everyone? Rollins is a genius, his lyrics take a new perceptive. Rather than expressing himself, he expresses what you're feeling. Insane ability.
Henry Rollins is the shit. Period, end of story. THe great thing about this song is that people who listen to the style think it's negative and angry. He's actually calling angry, miserable, self-pitying people to the carpet, and the lyrics evolve to a somewhat positive, hopeful message.
@mk41794 Well said man. We gotta respect for bands that put out music that tells people to pick themselves up, dust themselves off and grow. A lot of hardcore punk carries this message, stuff like Comeback Kid and Terror. Really inspiring.
@mk41794 just listen the music and dont make philosophy out of it .Im not angry when i listen to this ,actually im very positive cause i listen the riff and power of music .And ofcourse you know that Rollins is actually well readed man and nothing like depresive or thing like that. But taste are different .I dont like 50 cent but i dont say hes like crap or ..Thats very erelevant and i got much else to think of ..Angry haahahaha .
mr wolfelich , mk41794 said people might think the style of the song is negative and angry when in fact you get left with a positive and inspiring thought/message in the end
@wolfelich First of all, I don't know what the hell you're trying to say here. Second of all, what do you mean "don't make philosophy out of it"? This isn't Rebecca Black here. This is Henry Fucking Rollins, one of the most philosophical, introspective, brilliant artists out there. To say "don't make philosophy" implies that he has nothing to say, that he is no more than a bubble-gum metal head, and we both know that is not true. Think before you comment, dude.
@guydinamite No, man, you're not the only one. It speaks to a whole shitload of us out here. Henry says when he was doing this video he was singing to his reflection in the camera lens. So the brother gets it.
@Kantorounet Mr Rollins is pleased to offer face-slappings as a complimentary service to all his fans. And non-fans. In fact, any motherfucker in the entire world.
One of the best albums too have come out in the 90's. The End of Silence is a life saver album! This song and the whole entire really opens up your eyes!
I have to say I grew up with this man....Rollins has a grip on the world....an exponent of the gorgeous Bill Hicks...a straight shooting man. I salute....FUCK THAT would die for them, and those that have the balls to say the way that it truly FUCKING is....
Henry Rollins sings like, the only personal trainer/ self-help coach that Phil Anselmo doesn't beat up...like, that's how i see him...like, analogicly speaking, Rollins Band is like if Pantera suddenly adopted a proactive attitude..
@spookiespider well yea between that and his father, who used to make him sing patriotic songs in his backyard word for word and note for note. if he messed up hed get his ass beat by his marine dad
yooo dude no one cares if you have a low self opinion cause guess what yur just drawing attenion to yur self.................sooo guess what .............SHUT THE FUCK UP
@thestevethesheep plus hes putting down the idea of low self opinion ..............if u say something like that yur FAKE ................sooo unless he makes a song about feeling sorry for yur self then like ive said SHUT THE FUCK UP
@kingacobra1 Many performers do that. The best example I can think of is Iggy Pop. Plus I think that Rollins wants to look as intense as possiable for the video. What you pointed out is just a detail. Unless you're hulk the lyrics have something to give you, so concetrate on them.
@kingacobra1 I noticed alot of singers do that. I just havent ever really seen someone do it as much. I am a big fan of Iggy but haven't seen him go and flex every other step. It is a good song.
@philold09 Me too when I first found this song almost 19 years ago. Luckily things have changed since. But this song still makes me feel odd and sad..
Rollins Band is almost impossible to put into a specific genre. They never had to market themselves with any label, because Henry helped create most of the big music niches of the 90's with Black Flag in the 80's. So if you try to lump them in with "grunge" or "post-punk" they're like "haha, yeah... we made YOU, bitch"
rollins could change the world, if only the world would listen,

@kingacobra1 I noticed alot of singers do that. I just havent ever really seen someone do it as much. I am a big fan of Iggy but haven't seen him go and flex every other step. It is a good song.

Henry's bringing the truth here... and he doesn't give a fuck if you can't handle it.
