The heliport is due to be closed sometime in 2012. Tours of the city emanate out of there as well as commuters flying to Newark, LaGuardia or JFK airports as well as other miscellaneous destinations. I believe once the heliport is closed, most of the helos will be using the Wall St heliport (KJRB). The other heliport, on the East side by 34th is still open but I'm not sure if it is due to close as well.
