I'm 5 years old and I believe the music my generation adopts as "it's music" is altogether deplorable. Seeing my generation so unintelligent and ignorant as to what "good" music is, is utterly revolting. I mean, Justing Bieber, Kesha, Lady Gaga? Come on... there is better music than that, and I applaud any child of my age that listens to more classical music than this audible garbage.
Whether you like or dislike, respect others by commenting as civilized human beings, with clear educated responses and not profanity. Your use of profanity testifies to your ignorance.
This is the best cover ever Johnny cash is an icon he can make good great I love this song its just powerful n Trent reznor created something timeless
you dislike this song? ha you must be one of the most spoiled bratz in the world just a fagget to get ass raped by a prison demon fuck you haters on this song you dont understand or comprehend the meaning of pain or suffering get the fuck out and stay out you worthless worms
Both this version and that of NIN is hauntingly powerful. Every time I hear one version, I stop what I'm doing and listen to it. Then I sit in silence as I listen to the other version, and let the song consume me. They are powerful lyrics.
Great Video. Check out my channel for an original Johnny Cash and Dale Earnhardt SR Tribute song and video. Any fan of either will love it. You will never be forgotten!
@BATTLEFIELDvett I know how it is when it comes to spelling. A High IQ doesn't mean really a lot now a days, it's how you use it that differs you from everyone else. Bad spelling comes from dyslexia, witch, i suffer from on a daily basis. Hang in there man, i know how it is, and i feel your pain.
@mhmikdatsright Views do not equal talent. Kesha has more views than Christina. Let me put something into perspective for you. Cash WROTE over 1,000 songs, sold more than 90 million albums, won 11 Grammys and has over a dozen #1 hits. Christina writes very few of her songs, has 4 Grammys and hasn't even outsold Britney Spears in total album sales worldwide. Johnny competed against the likes of the Beatles and even outsold them in the 60s. Nice try though.
@crosscountrytc They've deleted their comment, but I can guess what it was, how retarded it was, and why they - rightly - were ashamed to have made it.
Everytime I have my birthday (March 1st) I can say "Happy Anniversary to you Johnny and June! You both had a wonderful marriage and your still together in the after life..."
"my empire of dirt"...wow...what a metaphor. its very true...we can strive for a higher standard of living, but it can crash down on us. for reasons, simply beyond us...
I don't really know much of NIN, but i think it's awesome that Johnny Cash proved he wasn't bound by the genre he played in. NIN is totally outside of what he produces and the fact that he exposed himself to such a wide range of music that he found this song is amazing. Even though he was unfamiliar with the type of music, he connected with the lyrics and made them his own.
I cant express my feelings..I'm just sitting infront of my computer crying like a kid who lost his parents and realising that i don't even know this man personally. But he is still able to convey his feelings in an other form: Music! Fantastic. Thanks for shareing this with the world!
@skyym10 Listen, I understand where you are coming from. I suck at spelling, but I have an extreamly high IQ score. probebly higher than you. so please enough with the ignorance. And by the way, that is an example of one of the problems in America. people focus on spelling or math as someones intelegance when they are the stupid ones. school is just a way to train people to fall in line and do as they're told. to learn the basics of geting a boaring midle class life. and to not question
@BATTLEFIELDvett Little bitch? Why the hostility? I assumed, since your comment was presumably written with real insight into the song, then you would want your English language skills to improve and, in whatever country you live in, you could therefore speak both English and whatever your native language is. :)
@BATTLEFIELDvett I hope you don't originate from this America place, I guess you mean that shitty country they call USA... Your spelling sucks, nice education you got!
@iommi88 No, I don't come frome the U.S.A. I can relate this song to America. how America has basically become a "no freedom shit hole zone". As the lyric in the song "what have I become" explains modern America as it stands. So please, enough with the ignorance. by the way, your comment makes you look like a complete fucking idiot. you base someones education on there spelling skills...... what a smart mind you got!
@BATTLEFIELDvett This song has nothing to do with America. It was a Nine Inch Nails song cover moron. I am from Nashville, TN. Yes, Where Johnny lived. He was a patriotic man and loved his country. He lost his wife, June Carter Cash, thus he is depressed and alone. He died not very long after this.
@BATTLEFIELDvett You can't even mention america or americans without being ridiculed or insulted. The constant sterotypes of ignorant people who haven't even step ground there. And im not talking about you just the people replying to you in a harsh and random way.

I Hurt myself today to see if i still feel :( i know what he means i love this song it brings so much emotion with it!!! R.I.P and thank you for your wonderfull Music
Glad before his death back in 2003, Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails got Johnny Cash's permission to do a cover of "Hurt". Thank you, Mr. Reznor for letting him do a cover of your song before he passed away. The legend of Johnny Cash will never die. I've seen "Walk The Line". It was a good movie. It was about his life in particular. He fell into burning rings of fire, performed "Ring Of Fire" at a prison because they loved his music. He had just about everything. No regrets whatsoever.
This song brings a tear to my eye at the thought one of the worlds greatest artists is never around but he will live on forever in his music. Gone but certainly not forgotten we will always cherish what you did for the music industry Johnny Cash.
i remember sitting here when i was 7 and i had this CD and I would just put this on replay over and over and I sat against the wall and Cried thinking of my uncle... :'/
I never heard Johnny cash before....... I listen a few of his songs and I listen not with my ears but my soul!! RIP Johnny you have touched my soul with your tunes and voice!!! Thanks!!!
@NexCarnifex sure, i know, it was written by a rock band or whatever. Anyway, it was fundamentally different from Johnny Cashs version. And i never said, that Johnny Cash wrote the song, i only said that it's fantastic ;)
Just can't keep the tears back. This song brings some memories of my life even though I am only 15. I love this song with some passion. It's sad he died not long after he sang this song.
@bottledsoul That may be true, but the emotional undertones that you hear from his voice while singing it is a little deeper than simply a performance. Sounds eerily too true of a man coming to terms with his own mortality and reflections of his life. Of all of his last songs, to me.. this one seems to have more personal emotion poured into it.
@bottledsoul Very true. But as with anything in life, the most powerful truths are the simplest. There are very few artists who can or could sink an entire lifetime of emotion into those notes and words.
@DTJesse I like your sentiment, but I think about 1,000 of the views are from me alone, and I'm sure there are others out there like me. It's been almost ten years since your passing Johnny, and your voice is still heard the world over.
I Remember the day he died, I broke down right away, ME a grown man crying over my childhood IDOL, RIP Johnny Cash

I love Johnny Cash and his performance of this song. However, this is a ridiculously easy song to sing and play. Anyone could have put this together.

Two videos of this song; one with 30 million and another with 38 million. 68 million people in this world still know what good music is : )

@DTJesse I like your sentiment, but I think about 1,000 of the views are from me alone, and I'm sure there are others out there like me. It's been almost ten years since your passing Johnny, and your voice is still heard the world over.
Rest in peace, friend.
