Hey I hearered that kevin Costner wuz in Alberta Canada a while ago and then he's workin on oil spill tools sellin em to Arabs n stuff er sumfin? Dya think he knew about the gulf? Remember folkses Kuwait oil capping was mostly done by albertans?! Just a stab.
They needed to build a huge concrete hollow box thats very strong (to withstand 1.6kms of water pressure) this box has to be the size of a double Garage. It needs to have a concrete skirt on its underside to sink into sea floor to seal in pressure. Float the box over the top of the well head not the leak and slowly sink it by controlling the ballast of the box and hope the box is heavy enough to cut the pipe it lands on. Hopefully the skirt will hold in the pressure :)
this did not work in 1979 and will not work now, You don't remember that and it seems these big oil companies don't either. So far , BP has done everything that was tired in 19179 that did not work and they contiune to go down the list. The only thing that is going to stop the oil is another well drilled on each side and the oil pump with each rig to relieve the pressure and then and only them can the leak be capped

Why can't a massive concrete weight be lowered down that would effectively seal the pipe. It would be designed in a special way to prevent leaks and allow for siphoning. It's not necessarily sophisticated but should work, would be quick to implement, and allow recovery(which is the real reason BP isn't doing anything drastic to solve the problem).

The space shuttle blew up because they didn't take all precautions at the time (there was ice on the shuttle, but they were rushed to get it into space, so they didn't worry about it) I agree that no one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes, but when your decision affects others, you need to really slow down and look at the big picture.

3. Connect a pipe from what you see (flow through cap) to a ship on the surface.

This cap is not solid, it just attaches to the pipe but lets oil flow through the center. This is how they are going to get the oil to the surface. Think of it as a connector instead of a cap. It connects the surface pipe to the well head.
A professor at Tulane just said that the flow through the cap hasn't happen yet, thus explaining the oil spewing out of the sides... I don't know whether to believe this or not. Where is any sort of response either from BP or our government? It seems pathetic that we are looking at the "criminal's" video of hos own crime...
Now they are spewing dispersants into the plume in a last ditch effort? They already cut the risers off to attempt this "top hat" maneuver, increasing the oil flow by (what BP is claiming) 20% in doing so. What good is a dispersant going to do when you just increased the flow by 20%? Seems like this shows a last ditch effort by BP. It just Makes me sick that this could have been prevented by a sound government agency... I'm going to miss these waters and I hope others do as well...

According to BP statement:
The LMRP cap was placed on top of the LMRP at approximately 835 pm CDT
on June 3.
• Gas first reached the Discoverer Enterprise at approximately 1100 pm CDT on June 3; oil followed at approximately 1110 pm CDT.
• On June 4, a total of 6,077 barrels of oil was collected and 15.7 million standard cubic feet of natural gas was flared.
• Optimization continues and improvement in oil collection is expected over the next several days.

BP says they are capturing 10.000 barrels/day. LAST WEEK they said the spill is of 5000 barrels/day.
