first off its shit sharp out of the box.... also the spine is better for the fire steel then that groove but it you know how to sharpen knives with a stone it works well and mine is as sharp my benchmade now
I've bought one and done batoning tests thru beech branches here in southern Europe and it goes thru wood like butter. the blade was fine. I was also expecting the top part with the long hole to bend under the hammering but it didn't. Oh sure it's not the Ontario SP8, it wasn't meant for logging trees but it can go thru a branch like the one she holds in a jiffy while being a great knife for little works. The sheath is junk but the blade is well worth it. Good advice my lady!
Dajo also makes a very similar knife, but it is a folding knife and does not come with the sheath. Yes, they look cool but are pieces of crap. I loved that little knife but dropped it once and it fell apart, NO JOKE! Also, not very sharp at all. I know Dajo makes affordable products but not very high quality. I would go with a Mora any day. A Mora knife plus a Light My Fire fire starter is a better combo. Secure the fire starter to the Mora sheath with inner tube rubber. Chaper price too.
I would attach a Photon light to the whistle key ring. They're good for being small, low weight, and you can stick it between your teeth while using two hands to light a fire.
This is a great knife i was already thinking of getting it but now im convinced. But i was also wondering if you guys had the gerber LMF ii and if u do could u reveiw it
@PeakSurvival Hello I'd like to start off by saying I love your videos, very informative and well put together reviews. With that said I was wondering if you can do a review on the Kabar 1213 or 1214 Knife. I know you have already done a few survival knife segments however i'm pretty set on buying this knife to replace my Glock 81 as a primary survival knife and would like your input. If you can't, no worries, still love the vids! :)
Not traditional looking enough for me. Full tang?... looks like somebody stole some of it. But it is light and has nifty sheath/accessories. Another good vid!
It seems like a great knife. I usually keep my fixed blade knives 4" or more. Any less for me would be a folding knife. But this one has some great features. I especially like all the accouterments that come with the knife.
P.S.
The long whole on the blade is not a "weight adjustment"!!!
With the poor placement of the velcro straps that go around the knife tang, you will probably end up cutting them off eventually. It is a good price for the knife though since the fire steel is worth almost half the price of the knife.
It seems like great gear for the price. I hope you do a thorough review on the knife, many on the blade forums are skeptical. If you review it without bias you will win over many of those who are speaking ill of you.
oh my goodness, when she started with that wood, at that position, I was really nervous, then at exactly 1:29, that was what I was really nervous about, the tip almost impaled in. thank you
AH I wish I saw this vid before I placed my comment about your backup survival knife. FYI you can lash that Dajo knife to a strong stick and use it to spear fish, game or for general protection.
do you plan on batoning wood with this thing? what is your idea of a "survival" knife.
if you dont want to mess around with splitting wood, this knife is cheap and gets the job done, but there are better quality items out there. Check out ESEE knives Mam.
do you plan on batoning wood with this thing? what is your idea of a "survival" knife.
if you dont want to mess around with splitting wood this knife is cheap and gets the job done for a while, but there are better quality items out there. Check out ESEE knives Mam.
That GARBAGE knife is made in china. Will it do what you need it to do? Maybe. Would I trust my life on it? NO! Stainless Steel...and made in China. No thank you. Do a real review of that knife. I want to see YOU put it through the paces. Then we'll see that the knife is junk, and you have no idea what you're doing.
Esee rc4 all the way. Also look into bark river. A knife is probably the most important piece of kit for outdoor use secondary to brainpower so don't go cheap only to find out you knife brioche and shoulda bought quality to begin with.
well, that knife is way to light weight, you'll need a preety long knife and heavy, if you got a that light weight knife you'll need 2 bring a axe to. but i recomand the Fällkniven a1 or the a2. visit: vvvvvv.Fallkniven.c00m for more knifes. the good thing with fällkniven is that it is stainless vg10 steel, it is really strong and really really sharp and really expensive xd
I go with Ka-Bar knifes as they are very very strong! soldiers in ww2 used them for digging trenches ect ... high carbon steel ! I like the Foliage Green Fighting Serrated Blade and it's 0.66 lbs.
I'm pretty skeptical about the true utility of this as a wilderness tool. The steel appears to be of low quality. The whistle looks like a marketing ploy to get kids or cub scouts to by the instrument. Just my $.02.
The inclusion of the whistle and the firesteel with a small, cheap blade shows that this is really more of a concept tool for someone who doesn't really know what they are doing. I can see a kid thinking this is really nifty and cool and wanting it. While it doesn't way much, I just don't see it as being a 1/4 of the survival knife that my little leatherman tool is.
I have an issue with the velcro also but then I'd secure the flap with duck tape as I would only need those items in a survival issue. The blade was not sharp enough but I bought many knives and had to take a steel or stone to it and they come out great. A sharping instrument should be part of your survival gear anyway! Plus most these reviews are not for the "seasoned outdoorsmen" but for "new-bees". A knife of some kind is better then none and this one comes with some very nice basics.
The removal of the steel from the back of the blade makes it less than useless for batoning, and the semi-tanto point is useless for survival. Also that knife was NOT sharp, it gouged the wood rather than shaved it. That pouch is an accident wqaiting to happen if you hike in any brush. Try a Kabar, Cold Steel, old Marbles, Camillus, or Ontario knife if you want dependability right out of the box.
@mem7048 I'd agree with that. Cold Steel has some awesom knives at really cheap prices. And my Ontario Rat-3 is probably the best freaking knife I have ever bought bar none! Just awesome! Oh and my Kabar machete, is another one. Freaking bad ass tool and or weapon. All are relatively reasonable.
I've got to disagree sadly.. the steel is not of high quality, and the weight removed near the spine of the blade weakens it considerably, regardless of how tough it may feel.
The moment steel is removed like that, it weakens the overall strength. A good diving knife or river knife? Yes, but a survival knife? Definitely not.
that velco close with the fire starter and wistle is just screaming to open up as you hike and drop both those things on the trail. Not only does that velcro open up but it flips down so both would slide out and you would never know it. Mechanical closures are always better.
@tinslatee Man your guys comments are right on the money! Snow would without a doubt stick to that velcro. Ontario removed the snap on some of there velcro retaining straps and it was a big mistake.
@solimiansky That my friend is a FACT! this knife is a good idea but those added products cost very little and do not outweigh the value of the better brands or rather a proven knife!

i agree with the other comments.
u cant baton with it, and thats one thing id want to be able to do.
also its kinda small, i wouldn't go out with less then 7" of blade.
id recommend a KA-BAR combat knife, or similar for all round SK.
for a smaller option i recently bought a Kershaw Antelope Hunter 2.
haven't worked it hard yet, but from all angles this seems like a great knife,
especially for the $25 i payed.
