  • Ah I wish my birds liked getting their nails filed. One in particular.. she just HATES the clippers or the file! You'd think I showed her a weapon of some kind instead of just a tiny nail file. Birds are leery of the strangest things...

    Very cute cockatoo! :)

  • Aww she's adorable, such a good girl. My too bites her nailes so we never have to get them cut. They are like little razors though.

  • My bird would NEVER let me cut his nails

Im gna try what your doing see if he likes it

  • What a sweet girl :) I wish my birds were like that, they hate getting there nails done

  • omg i have an umbrella cockatoo and his name is baby too! :D omg thats really funny! ill have to post a vid of him snuggling and eating and talking xD

  • The bird's a diva

  • awwww that is adorable

  • Wow, my birds would never let me do that! I wish! So cute!

  • just WOW x.x never seen a bird let anyone do that to her ><

  • How did you get her to actually enjoy a pedi? Great job!

  • This bird is absolutely amazing. I live in britain and i went to a place called tropical birdland and held this bird. It was extremely beautiful and magnificent. Thanks for this video.

  • look please answer me ok ... im 14 and my mom got an umbrella cockatoo 8 years ago and it is 13 ok we got her a cage but it is pretty small we feed it water it clean the cage and it always squawks and tries to bite me like it did 6 hours ago and idk why it is doing it please tell me

  • @pocketbikes0wn thats how my bird is. she tries to bite everyone else but me. its cuz she is attached to me and only wants me. thats how cockatoos are. they pick someone and are with them until they die. it is sad if the person dies before them tho because they can go into a really serious depression. also, you should get her a bigger cage. they need to have a lot of space and take them out for at least 4 hours every day. my mom puts it this way, they have the mindset of a 5 year old lol

  • What a patient bird.

  • realy nice

  • Any one wanna buy a cockatoo read up mytoosdotcom

  • LOL at 0:24 is that the parrot making the funny sound? haha! too cute.

  • soo cute

  • if i tried this with my macaw hed eat me

  • That's funny! My Cockatoo would do the same - eat my fingers!!! LOL!!!

  • lol samee

  • @yukio2121 Mine did that to me

  • @MegaBirdwoman ouch

  • So kawaii!!

  • nice bird......

  • oh my god. he enjoys it!!! how cute!

  • we do this to out toos. we also apply a balm (organic and recommended by the Bird Vet) to their feets and beaks. they seem to enjoy the attention. FT

  • What a sweet baby. I file my cockatoo's nails but after about a few seconds he really wants to chew on the file. See my bird at Cockatoo Zorro.

  • So trusting and beautiful austinhealy3

  • Sweet animal!

  • why do you do that to its nails?

  • you need to trim their nails from time to time...

  • Natural branches with a different diameter should be enough.

Just if there is excessive growth of the nails.

And then it's usual to cut them, not to rasp.

  • no its not, we even have those perches that are rough to keep the nails down, they do not work, my umbrella will start biting her nails when they are too long and they get annoying, and she loves to have them filed after, if you file them often you dont have to cut them

  • i have a cockatoo her name is izzy

  • please post a video of her ?

  • Wow, how did you train it to do that? Mine tries to chew the nail filer and she doesn't like sitting on my leg either she likes moving around a ton, I suppose thats because she's so young though.

  • It's a girl or boy?

  • Beautiful 'too!

  • Hahhaa wow that is so adorable! One of the girls I work with had to train a macaw to let her do this.

Out of curiosity did you have her since she was a baby or was she a rescue? We have an umbrella and shell let us file her nails but she lets us know when shes had enough hahah =] this is wonderful thanks for posting

  • He is so patient!

  • Straordinario davvero !!

  • okay, I've been wanting to get an umbrella cockatoo for some time now, but I've heard they are very noicey and messy, are they really? would you recommend me getting one?

  • They are definitely loud, will through food around, and very dusty. also, you'll really need to give it a lot of attention, as much as to a puppy.

  • throw, not through :)

  • @andretaube Hmm, I have a bird that is the same kind in this video and she is never noisy, never throws food around, but she is pretty darn dusty.

  • well it depends on the cockatoo u get because some umbrellas can be very very loud and scream for attention but others quite and occasionally loud but keep in miind any cockatoo will eventually scream..also they are messy and you will need to clean up everyday...yeah and u need to give them alot of toys which are very expensive and they will also chew them up right away and u will need to buy more...and u need to take them to the vet and just an exam will average about $65...think about it

  • I'd advise against it, they require far too much than the average person is willing to give. Check out the website mytoos

  • Fantastic well-bred cockatoo :-)

  • okay---my cockateil does not stay still for me when i try to groom its nails! My hand gets all bitten up and it is NOT pleasant at all....any help?

  • jajajajaja! that was so funny.i wish my cockatoo would do the same thing but,he's always grumpy and flies around like he thinks my room is a miniture hotel for cockatoos! sometimes he drives me nuts but, sometimes he gets really puffy and cuite and he also begs for food when his food bowl is full and with his favorite KIND of food!

  • don't just look at this and go wow. how cute..im gonna go buy one....they need alot of training 2 b like this

  • how much are they in california!? either a cockatoo or a african parrot someone tell me

  • africans are about 1.2k in the au idk about california

  • Try surf "Rainbow feathers" bird shop.I got mine there and all healthy birds.Nice bird lady too.very accomodating.

  • i wish my bird would do that! zoey tries to bite any body who comes around her with a file or nail clippers. she was a rescue, and she is scared to death of having her nails done!

  • how docile!

  • I knew just what I wanted to say last night and somehow it did not post! But it was something about the love possible between humans and animals which are simply different species. How can people not realize how much awareness all the creatures around them possess? Your Baby is gentle and captivating.

  • what is it saying? so cute!

  • Wow how sweet!!

  • Beautiful bird, and so sweet. My Penny won't let me do that quite yet but we're working on it. She's interested in doing anything I do.

  • That is a very trusting bird! Cute! XD

  • one of the nicest and sweetest birds there is

  • Good bird!

  • lol cute

  • I would try training it. Clipping thier nails is not good better to file them. It can be traumatizing to some birds. They are very sensitive anyways... We always give our bird a treat after and that worked from the begining. But we started when she was a baby.

    Good luck with that.

She even has her own file I set it on the table and start filing my nails she'll bring it to me and play with it for a while.

Given enough time you can train these birds to do almost anything they're very smart.

  • How did you train her to do this? I have an Indian ringneck and I'll be getting a macaw soon and I'd love to be able to trim/file nails with no fighting.

  • Those birds are my favorite, absolutely beautiful and sweet.

  • that has got to be the cutest thing ive ever seen!

  • Wow shes so sweet!

  • How often does the cockatoo gets her nails done?

  • awesome

  • that bird is very calm i wish i had a bird like that

  • That's wonderful! I should've been so sensible and taught my birds to let me file their toenails the same way. better than clipping them and the stress it causes.

I'll remember this one! Thank you!

  • Wow, what a diva! xD

  • too funny! wish my amazon would let me do that!

  • your bird is so cute!!

  • wow so well trained.

  • how cute!!!!!!!!!!!! what does she say????

  • i´m lovin it !!!

  • My cockatoo candy LOVES that:]

  • My cockatoo candy LOVES that:]

  • cute! buddy does the same thing!!

  • My sweetie's male, 9yo U2 also enjoys this, and apparently always has. We should all count ourselves fortunate!

  • Ur Umbrella is the size of a MOLUCCAN!!!

  • Just another day at the nail salon for Baby

  • good job,wow nice...

  • would not have beleve ths if i did not see it..most want to eat it..remarkable bird you have

  • lol wait so each time u fial her nails she says baby! lol how do u get ur bir to do that i no that a dogs a bit different but mine dont even let me near her feet!

  • she's so sweet! sounds like it's saying "ready" to me!

  • her name is Baby... she's trying to say it... :)

  • @dragonflieseyes I think she's learning to say "Lovey" Her voice isn't very clear yet.

  • How on earth did you teach her to accept nail grooming?! My birds are so unruly when it comes to that!

  • I never had to teach her that. For some reason she just likes it.

  • Oh, you are blessed beyond belief. Does she enjoy wing trims too?

  • omg u r so lucky my cockatoo hates it when i clipher nails so i have to have my dad hold her as i clip her nails lol

  • Sure wish my bird would let me do that. I have a Cockatoo that is very hyper, won't sit still at all. Wasn't socialized properly as a baby. But my first Cockatoo was an angel.

  • our U2 has really short "quicks" so we have to dremmel her nails instead of clipping or she'll bleed. She hates the sound and the look of the dremmel. so I've started covering her head with a bath towel and her daddy does the "manicure" She is much calmer when she can't see what is happening. then she sits in her cage and holds up one foot as if we've chopped one off! PPittiful!!

  • that a biiig cockatoo

  • my bird would probably never let me do that

  • what does she keep saying?

  • I never teach her how to speak, this is just something she heard around the house -- a birdie language for "Honey" and "I love you"

  • such a cool bird

  • aaaww this is so sweet!!!!

  • hi can i know from where you get this?or will you sell it .

  • Why do you keep asking people that? I saw all your other comments on other videos.

    I am just curious.

  • I got it at a bird farm in Napa, California. Unfortunately they called me 3 weeks later and said she had some medical condition that couldn't be cured. I don't recall details, but apparently big birds only carry it, but it would kill a baby bird. The store offered to take her back, but of course after 3 weeks of bonding and handfeeding I would never give her up. And of course I wouldn't sell her.

  • I have seen two baby

  • cute

  • thats cute XD, im going to steal it

  • aww! that's one BIG baby!

  • How sweet! Our parrot would never allow that...Once we brought him to the pet store where we bought him, they cut his nails for free. They had a very good trick: they placed him in a cage with bag ara parrots. He was really amazed and kept staring at the other parrots, he didn't even notice they were busy with his nails! Mostly we cut it self, when he's too tired to see quiclky what we're doing. ;)

  • im gettin one too :D

    and about the biting thing......

i have a one year old pitbull,

i dont think the cockatoo will bite harder than her :P

  • just to you let you know cockatoos bite hard and pierce through skin like its nothing....i have a 7 year old umbrella cockatoo and he i don't know how many times my stepmom has been biten by him, we have finally figured out what causes it but he still has his moments when he gets pissy that he'll bit and latch down hard and breaks skin

  • Maybe I should try doing this with my cockatoo, his nails are getting extremely long and I wanna get him out of his cage more if only they were shorter, I'm definetly gonna try this!

  • You may want to place him on your lap on a coushin or a pillow while you doing so, also get a file with you so he'll be busy with it while you cut the nails, I always do that with my cockatoo :)

  • Well it's kinda hard to get him out as we have to get his wings clipped first, but I did try the nail file and at first he tried to bite it but then he let me do it a little bit, lucky I did it as well because later that day he decided to put his claws around my finger and although it hurt it wasnt anything compaired to what I know could have happened, I just need to do 3 more of his claws now lol

  • shes 10 years old, btw.

  • my umbrella cockatoo named hootie has never bitten anyone, child or adult, male or female under even the most stressfull circumstances, even in pain, she is just the sweetest bird ever and talks all the time, I can take her outside and she never triest to fly away and loves to cuddle :)

  • LOL!!!! omg that so funny

  • My 'too would let me do this when he was young, too. The filing-your-own-nails-first is good advice. Unfortunately, now mine won't tolerate the filing. I can only get a couple files in at a time. He wants to chew the thing up. Still, we bond while I try. I agree on the difficulties in owning a too. I have been bitten hard a number of times when he is angry he isn't getting his way. It's a real test of a person to remain calm. They are like human toddlers for 60 years!

  • hee hee she is so precious ^^, guess is truth and pets take some characteristics from their owners, in this case she likes to have her talons being done

  • It sure beats a dremmel!

  • How sweet and well-behaved she is!

  • Your baby is so sweet. I have an 18 month old U2 and after I saw your video I started filing her toes too! She didn't complain, but I'm not sure she enjoyed it!

  • Now teaching the bird to give you feet like that is amazing! My mom's african gray doesn't mind being picked up, but the second you go for the toes, you get the beak. We have to wrap him in a towel to finish the job. This bird was so well behaved.

  • We actually never trained her. She just likes her nails being done.

  • Oh how sweet!!

  • it sounded like "mommy", and, how did you train her to sit so still? I'd like to train my African Grey, who's also very tame

  • that's a gorgeous bird you got. Is she a friendly bird with other people?

  • Great video, lovely bird, 5 stars

  • oh i love your bird it is so cute i wish i had a bird like that!

  • You should read the site mytoos dot com before you decide a cockatoo is right for you. Most people CANNOT handle a cockatoo. They have a deafening call--a Moluccan Cockatoo's call is only 5db less than a 747 plane! And then there is the dust (bad if you have asthma or allergies) and a very powerful bite. And the question with almost any bird, and cockatoos are no excpetion, is not if they will bite you but when.

  • Great bird, mine are well behaved but they sure don't raise there feet on there own to get trimmed.

  • Im jus wondering if I can borrow ya bird, so that he can teach my grey how claw clips are spoz 2b...he HATES his claw clips.

  • how big is she?

looks like 20 inch 700 grams

  • that is a sweet baby right there!

  • what is he saying?

  • It's she... I think she's saying "honey, I love you"... lol, but only I can understand...

  • whats he saying

  • omg this is so sweet!

  • amazing

  • So sweet!

  • great video,i have a Umbrella Cockatoo, see my viedo its not great, its my first viedo. hope to do better next time

  • he or she is very well behaved

  • Your video clip is great and I've rated it as awesome. Please see my video clip on a parrot animation and some Victorian trading cards of exotic birds such as parrots, paradise bird, toucan, humming bird etc.

  • mine don't bite

  • How old are your birds? Most of them don't bite when they are young. Most of them will definitely bite when they become mature and their hormones act up. And a cockatoo has a very impressive bite (and that is not from guessing because of the size of their beak, it is from first-hand, painful experience).

  • Oh my goodness what a good baby she is!!!!!! what a sweetie

  • Oh my God, meni and pedicure....

  • Cutie

  • my umbrella cockatoo also love it.

  • your cockatoo never bites?

  • nah, she never does!

  • how do you train him/her not to bite? we had to get rid of my old one cause he bit and bit HARD. We inherited him when he was 2.5 years old and got rid of him at 3.5 years old. I loved him and miss him. Thinking about getting another but maybe start from a baby?

  • I got mine when she was about 3 months old (I think), just before she was completely done being hand-fed. I had to hand feed her twice a day for about a month or so. Then I just handle her a lot. She's probably not unique in that regard, but I can put her on her back on my hand -- she doesn't mind.

  • I have a UCC as well, she loves getting her nails done, we named her Maggie (after maggie simpson)she is 2 years old and she loves us, we can pick her up off the floor or something and carry her like a cat or a dog or something and she just lets us, LoL, she only bites when its not me or my dad.

  • Most cockatoos actually like to get their nails done, it feels good to them, as for the cockatoo putting its claws in her hands when asked, that is just a smart trusting bird, she knows her master won't hurt her.

  • If you have birds, plan on getting bit! If you can't handle the inevitable, then you have no business getting a parrot. This is how they express their "dissatisfaction" about what ever. Please don;t make another statistic. The parrot sanctuaries around the world are full of unwanted birds because the owners could not handle something about the bird...the noise, the mess, the responsibility, the biting, the cost...

  • That is very good advice. I have an eclectus hen, sweet as she could be until she got to be around five years old. But she has bitten me, and very hard too. Eclectus parrots don't have the biting power of a cockatoo but it may not be too far off. And either of them can bite you hard enough to make it hurt really bad.

  • And you will have the exact same problem when he matures. Cockatoos bite! In fact just about any bird will bite when their hormones are acting up during breeding season. If you want a cockatoo I suggest a Goffin. They are the smallest cockatoos and seem to have a more gentle disposition, at least the only one I have ever known does. Just as sweet as she can be and I don't think she has ever bitten anyone.

  • Can you get your Baby to teach Gracie how to do that?

  • Great clip! I just adore Umbrellas... I have three of the buggers... Omar will pose like your "Baby" to have his nails filed. Kylie is afraid of me and just likes me for food. Ella is my baby. Thanks!!!

  • That's awesome...so patient and tolerant. great video!

  • jazzebela why are you getting a umbrella if your intimidated by it's beak? Maybe you should start with a beginner bird.

  • My cockatoo likes her claws filed, too. : )

  • umbrellas are big and adorable but they have also one of the msot horrifying and loud screams. The males can be aggressive in unpredictable ways when they reach sexual maturity. So although they are beautiful and sweet, these come at a price. I hope people don't rush to buy big birds such as umbrellas right after watching videos like this. Please do consider the good and the bad as well as the extremely long lives they live before committing! A companion parrot is for life.

  • Very good comment. Umprellas require a lot of attention. My birdy is a girl, she's very tame, but has a very loud scream when asking for attention. You have to have a bird in a common area around people, otherwise it may develop problems like feather plucking.

  • Aw.

I'll be getting a umbie baby in the spring.

    ^^

I am a little imtimidated by the beak though.

  • Hi Jazz, Start with a smaller bird first, maybe?

  • I just got my first, a 7-year-old named Charlie. He was severely abused by his first owners, then rescued and cared for by a kind teenaged boy for 2 years. Of course, Charlie has issues! I had to throw away my favorite hat before he would consider going home with me... He won't step up and is afraid of me touching his feet. Any advice? --MaryK
