I've tried using long nails to strengthen my finger picking, but it hurts too much when they get snagged on the strings. :( how do you deal with it?

@ApplesRSexxy Some people use finger-picks, others glue on fake nails, others put some glue-like chemicals right on their nails to make 'em harder. A quick Google search will give you a lot of options. If you're curious about finger-picks, I recommend you check out Alaska Pik. They have some pretty unique ones that, IMO, work better than 'normal' finger picks (which I personally hate...).

@ApplesRSexxy When you say sangged, do you mean you actually break the nails or is it just the tension that hurts? If it's the former, there are different products like oils and nailpolishes specifically made to strengthen the nails. It also helps to file the nails to keep the edges smooth. If it's the latter you are probably better off trying finger-picks.

@NickZoOoR It probably depends on whether you find a good teacher or not, but I don't have much experience with lessons either. I believe if you're motivated and methodical enough, you'll improve either way. Though I mostly play a different style, I think the same idea holds true across all instruments and styles. It's probably also safe to say that if you're motivated and methodical enough to improve on your own, if you found a good teacher, you'd improve that much more quickly.
