Tried it with mine and it didn't freeze. If this happens, you can also quit Kotoeri with Activity Monitor. Make sure the view is My Processes or All Processes (those are the fastest ones to use) and click on Kotoeri. Click the Quit button on the toolbar and choose Force Quit. Kotoeri will be reactivated when you begin typing Japanese again.
Your kotoeri dictionary is corrupted. There is a way to fix it, which can be found on different sites on the net.
