Last time I fought ninjas I used a Sig. Couldn't do this kind of stuff while I still had rounds left in it, but immediately took off my slide when I was reloading.
In a likely self-defense situation involving the average firearm owner (with some training but nothing too extensive like what the police or military would receive) I would think such a large, powerful handgun would be too difficult to draw and fire effectively. A smaller, more manageable pistol might be a better choice. After all, a 25 ACP round in the chest of a bad guy is far preferable to a .50 round that flies by him, or worse, never even leaves the pistol.

Therefore, you can't remove a barrel without removing the chamber as well. Don't be ignorant and learn the absolute basics of how firearms operate before you make half-assed comments.

Assuming you can strike the primer without any way whatsoever to hold the cartridge securely in place, without the chamber in the barrel to provide support, ignition will likely result in the cartridge EXPLODING rather than propelling the bullet with reduced "power or accuracy."
The brass cartridge case can't contain the pressures involved all by itself, especially with high powered ammo.

An easier method of completely making this gun useless other then a hell of a melee weapon is to just push the slide back and start to eject the unspent cartrige. With out the explosion from the round the bullet will not properly eject and most like get trap between the slide and barrel, thus making it completely impossible to fire with no fancy tricks. I own a desert eagel and still say this isnt smart but i think it is smarter and easier.

@social3ngin33rin I don't think the twist bolt design in this gun was designed to physically hold the cartridge, so this should be correct. With the gun chamber being taken away with the barrel simultaneously.
Maybe the extractor can hold onto the cartridge so that it can fire @ 10ft/second, But I am extremely doubtful

And as far as being more accurate. Not so considering other then the barrel bore and the clip everything else is the exact same. I have shot mine 50 with my grand fathers gold 44 barrel attached. They are completely interchangable. A nice feature also.
@herodtm the 44 automag is coming out in 2011 and has a rifled barrel on it providing high accuracy unfortunately its very expensive to make as the rounds needd to be modified to fit the gun and also why the fuck would you attach a gold barrel to a desert eagle you clearly dont know anything about guns outside of call of duty the desert eagle is unwieldy and impractical to use for real life the 44 (automag) has considerably better for managing recoil

@MrRaymondman22 The Desert Eagle is not, has never been, and never will be used by any branch of the United States Millitary. It's way too bulky and heavy, fires an overpowered cartridge, and is incredibly unreliable in all but the most ideal conditions.
That would'nt work at all.....not at all especially if the person holding the gun is pulling it away or not at arms length. Even then all you have to do is pull the trigger and shoot his finger, his hand or put some holes into his elbow since when his hand is on the barrel his arm is right in front of the barrel.
What you can do though is to grab the gun by the barrel, and twist it quickly enough so that the attacker doesnt have enough time to pull the trigger, and the trigger guard will break the index finger. Pull the gun from his grip after he is squirming in pain at his broken finger and the gun is now in your possession.
@eastofakron1 I own one great gun. You need to be a descent size person to manage the recoil so you dont limp wrist and cause a jam. This gun is awesome and extremely accurate. However for home defense not my first choice. Mainly because its deafening. And the flash in a dark room will temporarially blind you. Other then that it is my favorite gun to shoot and i would gladly have one in a gun battle. Just wouldn't look forward to shooting inside without hearing protection. Its F N LOUD
@herodtm All true. I know guys who have permanent wrist damage from shooting the desert eagle and the 500. Magnum. For home defense I have a mossberg 500 shotgun. I love it. Very easy operating system, if you take out this plug they put in them now days you can hold 6 shells of 12 guage. Its very manuverable in small spaces, hallways ect.
@TheSmartestTaco Shooties are a good choice but for home defense i have a ps90 its great. Even with a longer barrel then the P90 its completely mobile in hallways. I also have it equiped with a red dot and a 220 lumen flashlight so i can blind them before i shooot them.
@herodtm Sounds pretty nice. I was thinking about picking myself up a sub machine gun, anything in specific you'd recomened? And yes, shotguns are a great choice. But then again so are machine guns haha.. I mean hey, 6 shells MAY not be enough. What IF, instead of a single home invader, an entire gang of thugs break in. When that happens, I have a polish tantal AK-74 sitting in the closet, with an AR-15 sitting at its side. Hopefully I will never need to shoot anybody though!

It is, essentially A small funneled explosion. and at the front of this small explosion is a projectile, and when the small explosion takes place, the projectile has to go somewhere, and since the pressure exerted by gravity and rifling pressure is less than the rigid pressure exerted by the barrel it has to exit through the length of the barrel. Now that's probably too complicated to merit an intelligent reply but do your best.

In regards to everyone's theory on if you could fire it w/o a barrel:
Let's say the bullet is still centered on the pin w/o the barrel,
if it were to fire the gas would expand from the sides like crazy,
making the bullet travel extremely slow (from it's normal velocity).
Of anything,
I would suspect that the person receiving the bullet would get a bruise.
Since that was theoretical,
it's not possible to have any type of explosion since the bullet is in the upper receiver, which has been taken

@social3ngin33rin I don't think the twist bolt design in this gun was designed to physically hold the cartridge, so this should be correct. With the gun chamber being taken away with the barrel simultaneously.
Maybe the extractor can hold onto the cartridge so that it can fire @ 10ft/second, But I am extremely doubtful

@F1ferrari09 DId you really just say the 44 mag is more powerful. Please explain how a 44mag is more powerful then the 50. Desert eagle also comes in a 44 mag which i have shot. And as far as being more accurate. Not so considering other then the barrel bore and the clip everything else is the exact same. I have shot mine 50 with my grand fathers gold 44 barrel attached. They are completely interchangable. A nice feature also.

@herodtm the 44 automag is coming out in 2011 and has a rifled barrel on it providing high accuracy unfortunately its very expensive to make as the rounds needd to be modified to fit the gun and also why the fuck would you attach a gold barrel to a desert eagle you clearly dont know anything about guns outside of call of duty the desert eagle is unwieldy and impractical to use for real life the 44 (automag) has considerably better for managing recoil

@F1ferrari09 Im not familiar with the 44 auto mag but i am familiar with the 44 mag desert eagle. Yes it has Less kick but it still wieghs the same as the 50. And the 50 cal AE is also rifled. Yes it is un practicle due to size and sound but would i want one in a gun fight. You bet your sweet ass I would!

I'm pretty sure that the round would eject off of the bolt once the barrel is clear. Isn't the ejector on the bolt on this gun?

in the marines, we r issued a desert eagle.....mine is at the re inlist office. i couldnt take it home cuz the airport would have gave me shit. so thay let me take my .38 charter arms revolver home..... i still have the "free pass"......im going back january, hopefully.

@MrRaymondman22 The Desert Eagle is not, has never been, and never will be used by any branch of the United States Millitary. It's way too bulky and heavy, fires an overpowered cartridge, and is incredibly unreliable in all but the most ideal conditions.

That would'nt work at all.....not at all especially if the person holding the gun is pulling it away or not at arms length. Even then all you have to do is pull the trigger and shoot his finger, his hand or put some holes into his elbow since when his hand is on the barrel his arm is right in front of the barrel.

What you can do though is to grab the gun by the barrel, and twist it quickly enough so that the attacker doesnt have enough time to pull the trigger, and the trigger guard will break the index finger. Pull the gun from his grip after he is squirming in pain at his broken finger and the gun is now in your possession.

@eastofakron1 I own one great gun. You need to be a descent size person to manage the recoil so you dont limp wrist and cause a jam. This gun is awesome and extremely accurate. However for home defense not my first choice. Mainly because its deafening. And the flash in a dark room will temporarially blind you. Other then that it is my favorite gun to shoot and i would gladly have one in a gun battle. Just wouldn't look forward to shooting inside without hearing protection. Its F N LOUD

@herodtm All true. I know guys who have permanent wrist damage from shooting the desert eagle and the 500. Magnum. For home defense I have a mossberg 500 shotgun. I love it. Very easy operating system, if you take out this plug they put in them now days you can hold 6 shells of 12 guage. Its very manuverable in small spaces, hallways ect.

@TheSmartestTaco Shooties are a good choice but for home defense i have a ps90 its great. Even with a longer barrel then the P90 its completely mobile in hallways. I also have it equiped with a red dot and a 220 lumen flashlight so i can blind them before i shooot them.

@herodtm Sounds pretty nice. I was thinking about picking myself up a sub machine gun, anything in specific you'd recomened? And yes, shotguns are a great choice. But then again so are machine guns haha.. I mean hey, 6 shells MAY not be enough. What IF, instead of a single home invader, an entire gang of thugs break in. When that happens, I have a polish tantal AK-74 sitting in the closet, with an AR-15 sitting at its side. Hopefully I will never need to shoot anybody though!

@PuttAHsockinit Do you have any idea of the physics of a gun shot? It is, essentially A small funneled explosion. and at the front of this small explosion is a projectile, and when the small explosion takes place, the projectile has to go somewhere, and since the pressure exerted by gravity and rifling pressure is less than the rigid pressure exerted by the barrel it has to exit through the length of the barrel. Now that's probably too complicated to merit an intelligent reply but do your best.
