This movie felt too much like Pirates of the Caribbean and Conan was far from barbaric. The only part of the movie that didn't completely suck, was the first half hour or so.

Jason fit Conan MUCH better. In the books, Conan was nimble, intelligent, and actually had thoughts. Arnold was just a roid monster with a broad sword who could lead you to the belief that he was borderline retarded. Besides, I think it's hilarious how people say Jason Momoa was small as he's 6'4 and was around 230 for this part.

I swear the longest conversation in this film lasts under two minutes, it has a formula of KILL SHIT, new place, KILL SHIT, new place, KILL SHIT, sex. I'm actually one of those people who think this movie was pretty good. The battle scenes were grittier than in the original, the main baddie's scheme was interesting and if any "true fan" has seen Howard's original artwork, Jason Mamoa looks more like the Conan character than Arnold did.

They even made young Conan seem fierce in this movie. In the original, Young Conan is immediately taken prisoner by Thulsa Doom; whereas in this version, young Conan actually fights back.

Momoa is a good younger Conan, and at a lean 6ft 5in 220lb far closer to Conan than an hgh pumped 'bodybuilder' type. He's also a far superior physical representation of Conan's catlike speed and grace plus power. That said - this movie left a lot to be desired - it was poorly written and badly directed. Except for Conan's father, NONE of the actors had any believable angst or weight to them. The critics are right - the movie takes itself more seriously than it delivers.

Jason Momoa was actually closer to the image of Conan that Howard described. Arnie was too much of a steroidfreak to hake any fast or believable fight scenes, and he looked too dumb. But Basil Poledouris score for the original is so much better than the score in this. I`m not a particular fan of either movies, but more of a Howard-fan, and I can`t understand all the hate.
