I am AME Zion and this was the hymn chosen before I preached my trial sermon, it doesn't matter whether AME, AMEZ, CME, or Baptist it's the message and the lyrics of the song that are so TRUE. Thanks to whoever posted this, this hymnal gets me into the Holy Spirit!!!!
I'll tell ya, that rhythm and tempo is very old, very sacred, and very powerful for African Americans. I'll spare the details, but when it's sung like this, it's done for a reason. As a white southern musician who knows the roots of Black Gospel, when this kinda music comes on, I kinda just bow out respectfully, and listen to it. This style got African Ancestors in this nation, through a LOT of hard times. It is truly, the purest form of musical prayer.
@JurisArcane you are so right ...this is the type of gospel i was raised on and it still helps me play my horn to this day....and no matter what type of tour bus or airplane i travel on i keep this song and music in my head...with prayer!
Powerful Song, God's hand is unchanging in today's society man has change in it's values, that we want it overnight. Hold on to God's unchanging hand and he will make a way.
I want you to know this has touched me down to my soul..God Bless your dad and you for posting all these songs he sings..I can feel the Holy Ghost all over Praise be to Jesus!!!!
Good ole days! Sunday morning church service. Brings back beautiful memories. 50 years ago. Didn't know that it would stick in my heart. 12 years old. Sunday school, 11:00 service, and then, evening service. Beautiful memories. And guess what, we had to walk to all services. Sometimes we would catch a ride on the way. God is good, all the time, God is good.
I started to cry because those was the god days. I remeber my grandmother sand grandfather . I was thinking about the sunday dinners, and good time we had in church.
God bless you. This was my grandparents favorite song to sing. You did a beautiful job with it. Hold to God's Unchanging Hand ... Good advice for any generation.
I want to thank you so!!! much for posting this my grand mother use to tell me this all the time i thank her she's gone on now but we need this in these times we live in could you please pray for my family and I thank you and GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!
southern mission. come on now!! i aint heard none of them good ole songs since i left east st. louis to miami. dis my family "the malones" home church...
We sang this song in my childhood like this in the AME Church (African Methodist Episcopal Church). It is not just an old skool baptist, but an old skool black church song.
I grew up Baptist and have visited AMEs. I can't tell the difference between the services. Doctrine, yes; services, no.
