Every time he hit something... The look on his face me he really wants to fly off the handle and beat the living crap out of those drums, but really REALLY articulent
I like it in the sporadic split seconds in which he comes close to a groove and with some form of repetition, but other than that it sounds like a monkey hitting the drums to me... like thomas pridgen but in a different style of "music"
@roenie1 obviously you do not play drums and or have no been introduced to hands to feet exercises, this guy is THE MOST persicion drummer ive herd in my whole life yet.
@COdrums4life This guy is tryng to be JoJo Mayer but has not class or swing at all. His drumming is very hesitating and he always loses the bit at some point, something that never happens to JoJo, look at 1:53, he even goes "aaah" If this is "THE MOST persicion drummer ive herd in my whole life yet." You have obviously only heard one drummer: this one.
@COdrums4life agreed i thought that morgan agren was the best for a long time....one guy that has a similar chaotic style to this guy is zach hill(though he doesn't have a jazz background like this guy, so that makes him pretty much all chops, he's still sick though!)
@roenie1 people can remember this kind of chaos....i was feeling the groove the whole way, you just want to feel safe and in the pocket(which is BORING) and why go "music" this guys band is the greatest and most technical jazz i've heard, check them out, they're called heernt....their song "make me dance, make me dance" always throws me off, i'll be grooving to that bass line then the drums come in in an oddly placed grooved, and it seems to be in a different tempo, but it all flows together!
well i dunno man , this guy made me feel like when i started drumming and looked up to the good players and went like maaaaan wtf! , Mark made me feel like a child about to cry, im not really sure of what i just heard its beyond me. it was fast though haha
If you don't understand rhythm to a point where you can appreciate this solo and realize that what he is doing takes an enormous amount of skill and precision then hush. Its all polyrhythmic perfection. This guy is my hero.
i hate it when the audience is making noises while someone is doing music. i mean this guy is playing the drums and he is no soccer player who needs cheers from somebody.

subdivisions sumdugedivisons bla bla 5/4 over 6/8 who cares! Either the highhat is steady and locked in or its not, in this Case its not in the first 2mintues of the solo
What do you mean?? He doesn't miss a beat in this whole thing and everything he does, everything little "off" thing, is intentional - and he's not alone in this kind of thing.
So you're not a drummer - but any musician listening to this will hear wonderfully clearly stated subdivisions bustin' ass against eachother - Mark Guiliana just could not be any more "locked in" here !!
coltrane and this guy playing together would bring down the gods from the sky to raise their arms in prayer. i'm not religious but i have an urge to yell hallelujah after hearing this drummer.
Now that's what I call DRum and Bass

That drum solo was the equivalent of an iron tongued percussion ferret massaging licking my eardrum, but I loved it!

he does that for a reason dawg. i doubt you can keep a steady high hat while trying to without doing 5/4 over 6/8 so keep it to yourself.

agreed, that's his thing. he's dead on, but he can make you think he's not. it takes an amazing amount of control to pull that stuff off!
