Cast of the performance: Don Giovanni: Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau Leporello: Walter Berry Donna Anna: Grümmer Donna Elvira: Pilar Lorengar Don Ottavio: Donald Grobe Zerlina: Erika Köth Masetto: Ivan Sardi Commendatore: Josef Greindl Chor und Orchester der Deutschen Oper Berlin Fricsay Ferenc Sensational!!!
I was wishing Pilar Lorengar in this production should've been Anna when I was watching her Elvira...UNTIL I SEE THIS NOW! This woman sounds like an ideal Anna, even more so than La Lorengar! I've heard only too many who aren't. Anyway, both of them sound marvelous despite singing this in German. Now that's an accomplishment! (I love German, but not for this opera, or any other non-German ones, for that matter.)
There is another performance of Elisabeth Grümmer in Italian (you are right that the original language sounds better, though i am German myself). You can find it in my favourites. Enjoy her incredible voice and perfection !
You were very fortunate - she was a very artistic singer and in the view of many the best Donna Anna ever. I love her in the Saltzburg film- a real treasure
Elisabeth has a gorgeous silvery tone. I wonder why we don't have donna annas who are real lyric sopranos instead of heavy dramatic sopranos. Anyways, my intro to her was a 1953 live recording of Don Giovanni in salzburg and after a few listenings, I realize that her voice was the ideal one for this role and no one since, past or present, has been able to displace her.
brava!

echt? indisponiert? Wie sang Sie denn, wenn sie gesund war? :-) I'm Italian but I'm a big fan of German singers and she's a real favourite of mine

She IS Donna Anna,just as Della Casa and Lorengar contend the role of Elvira.
I like Steber as Anna very much also.

I studied voice with her and so proud to have done so --an enormously generous person and still singing beatifully in her 60s 70s

::sigh::
Do you have any more videos from this performance? If so, could you post them? Please? ::hopeful::
