  • very informative...Thanks guys!

  • I think think this video is helpful and the guys are informative.

  • Well when you review a 4X4 you want an experienced reviewer like these gentelmen.

It's sad when you see 4X4 reviews on MotorTrend, InsideLine and other well known names on the industry with reviewers that might never owned a 4X4.

This channel is doing a very good job. However, as we expect people who love and own the car will not like the honest reviews.

If you want a reviewer that offer you similar information that you can get from the official website .. Don't watch this then

  • the driver cannot drive!!!

  • @drgschissana when all four wheels have air underneath them,no driver, no matter how experienced will get it moving! And we purposefully drive it at its limit to see if we could get it stuck... almost 40 years behind the wheel of hundreds of different 4x4s, and we still can't drive!

  • God what a boring video... i couldnt get myself to watch it all.. had to skip through parts to get to the end.. these guys need some emotion

  • @1ownjoo2 this is one of our early attempts. With almost 1000 subscribers, we can't be doing all that bad.

  • @4xforum

Its the Jeep people want to see, im sure if you read the comments you will see the same thing i said just about. I havent looked at your other video's if you have others but man next time those 2 guys shouldnt be so boring

  • @1ownjoo2 One of them was me.. but thanks.

  • @4xforum

Well which one ? The older guy was the one im mainly reffering too. Sorry if i hurt your fealings. I just thought it was a little slow.

  • @1ownjoo2 It doesn't worry me. I am in production now with my fifth, 13-part 4x4 adventure travel TV series broadcast in SA, UK and New Zealand. As I said, this was one of my early attempts. I agree actually.... emotion makes a show. No emotion in the presenters means no emotion from the viewers.

  • I' ve had my Grand Cherokee limited 07' for 6 months and love everything about it. No complaints here.

  • Wow man amazing 7:24

  • Comment removed

  • Is it just me or did a Land Rover owner call the Jeep unreliable?

  • @aimsuxdoggydills Who is the Land Rover owner you are referring to?? Not the presenter... he drives a Toyota.

  • @4xforum Well then, I suppose all is forgiven.

  • I'm not sure that I agree. Is it because it didn't have the typical Balls to the Wall action that you see in a mudbath romp in backwoods of WV? I think that the fact that they attempted to get past that sand bank SLOWLY is a truer test of what the vehicle can actually so by transfering it's engine power down to the tires EFFECTIVELY. Meaning that they're not relying on bashing through the sand bar, or kicking up all that dirt. Though I must say that kicking dirt is wicked FUN!

  • im pretty sure the noise at 7:41 is the traction control adding brake to the slipping wheel to transfer power

  • a landrover discovery3 would go up that

  • Yes it would. Many vehicles can go up that, but we tried our best to make it difficult and this vehicle's Traction Control is outstanding. Pity about everything else about the Jeep though...! It's not well built at all.

  • @4xforum I think they are very well built.

  • someone with the kinda of money to afford this isnt going to take it offroad and break it

  • was it overheating at the 5:00 or was it water evap-ing?

  • steam from water hitting the radiator.

  • Got a 2006 limited Hemi, I would not drive any other vehicle. Perfect combination of offroad capability, and ashphalt ass kicker.

  • The driver's voice puts me to sleep.

  • What's with the squeaky sounds??? :/

  • power steering most likely but that shouldn't be on a new vehicle. Plus there was a lot of steam it looked like coming from under the hood around 5:10 to 5:20 may be from water but they weren't going water deep enough to get in to the engine compartment. that confuses me..... just go with the older Jeeps. They are better off road

  • It's a weird but normal Jeep sound mine also has it

  • As said by the tester if you read the comments:::

/The steam was as a result of a water crossing done just before and the squeal was a stone trapped in the brake caliper, which soon fell out./

  • The first sound was a belt getting wet. The second sound sounded like a bushing in the suspension but Im not positive. I just chalk that up to personality, all Jeeps have one. I agree with gt90guy, go with the older ones. I have a 96 that is just like my girlfriend. She gets moody, makes all kinds of noises, has some issues, but she will NEVER leave me sitting!

  • just got a jeep like this and im in love with it

  • i get my info from a master mechanic and a mechanical engineer (specializing in automotive design) and if you look up the book definition of traction control vs 4wd youll see what i mean.

  • i love how the guy keep calling it traction control...lol ITS NOT TRACTION CONTROL .. geeze i hate stupid people...its called 4 wheel drive..theres a difference.. traction control systems simply cut power to a drive wheel and when necessary apply certain brakes to keep the vehicle under control and going the direction you want without spinning your tires like crazy. 4 wheel drive sends power to wheels with grip on the quadra-drive system. theres a difference.

  • Please do some research first before you judge someone that instantly.

In off road vehicles: Traction control is used instead or in addition to the mechanical limited slip or locking differential. It is often implemented with an electronic limited slip differential, as well as other computerized controls of the engine and transmission. The spinning wheel is slowed down with short applications of brakes, diverting more torque to the non-spinning wheel.

  • This form of traction control has an advantage over a locking differential, as steering and control of a vehicle is easier, so the system can be continuously enabled. It also creates less stress on the drivetrain, which is particularly important to the vehicles with an independent suspension that is generally weaker compared to solid axles.

  • On the other hand, only half of the available torque will be applied to a wheel with traction, compared to a locked differential, and handling is less predictable.

  • yes like the F1 car hahahahahha ROLF come on ppl.

  • 4wd only means that power can be sent to all 4 wheels, one way or another. In its simplest form, i.e. a 4wd with open front and rear diffs, you lose ALL traction as soon as 1 wheel on each diff loses grip. Traction aids like locking diffs or limited slip diffs help by "dragging" the wheel thats on the ground along. Traction control is different because it "brakes" the spinning wheel and transfers the torque to the stationary wheel by differential action.

  • exactly

  • tration control was orriginaly designed to pervent skiding on road, its more like limited slip then a locking diff, then main differance between limited slip and tc is theat you can turn tc off,and tc ruduces engine power to the weel thats sliping and sends more power to the weel thats not.limited slip senses when a weel is spining and sends equal power to that weel, a locking diffencal sends equal power to both weels as long as its turned on.

  • yep

  • I have a 04 Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 Inline Six in it..Very very reliable engine with plenty of power and I would def prefer the SelecTrac system than the QuadraDrive I or II. Saves gas my only bitch is that the V-8 only as far as i know came with the QuadraDrive systems because they were the limited models

  • whats the noise at final of the video?

  • It's the disk break on the wheel that is in the air grabbing onto the disk forcing the power to go to the tire on the gound.

  • Does the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited have the Quadra-Drive 2 system?

  • No that would probally be the QuadraDrive 1 system

  • A great vehicle but plagued with Electrical issues... I own a Jeep GC 4.7 V8 Ltd.. I am going to trade mine in for the reliabilty and excellence of the Mercedes ML500. Buy a jeep and soon regret it !

Tail light gone - The repair = $150.

Overheating issue $1200 for a couple of pipes to be replaced.

Yes, i will get shot of this old tank before the engine goes pop !

Me and my Jeep are finsihed!

  • i also have a WK limited! love it! its a 05 GC Limited- Inferno red. 4.7l v8

  • I have WK Limited...Love it!

  • Just bought one of these new models. Previous Range Rover owner, but already impressed w/ the Jeep quality. Love the Rover looks, but this Jeep is LOADED with everything for a great price! Steering is excellent, engine/pwr is excellent, heavy like a tank but the 5.7 HEMI and Quadra Drive II makes driving an ease. Hope the maintenance isn't as bad as the Rover.

  • I'm not 100% sure but i read that the quadra drive system was the most expensive 4x4 system ever developed.

But i now this system is world's best.

  • I love the Grand Cherokee!!!

What year and what trim is this?

  • This is an amazing vehicle.

  • does quadradrive ll lock a the wheels together?

  • Just discovered your forum, great!!!

Ehm, what engine did this Grand Cherokee have? The small 4.7 or the 5.7 Hemi V8 ?

What tire brand are on the rims?

  • QuadraDrive II is the best on the market.

  • Andrew St.Pierre White is the best 4x4 guy in whole South Africa. Famous for his DVD and books. I'm wondering who this guy behind the steering wheel might be.

  • This system has ELSD

Short from a fully locked front and rear differential, it's a good system. It's just the electronics that are the issue. I purchased a 2007 Liberty. The Liberty has ELSD. Anyway, I decided to take it out one snowstorm ago, just to see what the traction differences were like in 2wd, in comparison to a 2004 liberty that I have. The ELSD allowed me to drive 13 miles of my course B4 needing 4WD where my 04 Liberty did'nt get a 1/8 mile without engaging 4WD up the first hill.

  • So is the ELSD better then the Vario Loks it had before in front and rear axle?

  • When the electronics are working, I think it is, as shown with this video. I think it can get annoying to a degree in the snow, because the brakes apply themselves automatically at any sign of adverse wheelspin, the engine power drops dramatically, and your left at the computers mercy. But offroad, I think its very advantageous. I believe there is an overrride switch to turn it off though....

  • I have not driven it is snow, but what you say makes sense. It was the 5,7HMI and I don't remember what rubber it was carrying - standard from the showroom on 18" rims.

  • a 2005 Grand Cherokee with the 5.7 Hemi stands used for sale in the sales room of our local Jeep Dealer. Fantastic that this video shows it capabilities offroad, just great!!!

  • Wow impressive!

  • man, those arent even the stock tires that come on those jeeps...thas why it was slippin so much, and they dont even have the traction control on, all wheels wouldnt spend at the same time if it was on, should be one wheel spinning if it is slipping...

  • obviously there are horrilbe tires on this to be getting stuck that easy. a decent normal sized at tire would do you just fine. as for that sound and steam must be a problem with that vehicle there. I own the body style before this one.

  • You can't please everyone! The last comment came from someone who thought it made it look too good! But what part specifically made it look bad??! This vehicle has an outstanding traction system but here is Africa they are unsuited to rough outback travel because they break easily. FACT.

  • If this Jeep is considered good, then other 4WDs are way better. This is just a pure American cheapie, early in the video there was steam coming from the radiator and later on during the hill climb there was a very high pitched sound. Signs of trouble, and you folks need to evaluate your review criteria once more.

  • We rated the traction system excellent. And it is. Otherwise the vehicle has limited clearance and limited payload and is not strongly built. The steam was as a result of a water crossing done just before and the squeal was a stone trapped in the brake caliper, which soon fell out.

  • Thanks for your reply, in that case you are indeed very thorough in your testing. Can you tell me where this test track is located, I'm in the Mpumalanga region and would like to test out my Toyota HiLux 3.0 D-4D in the near future. Thanks once more.

  • Stoney Ridge, near Weenen, Natal.(036) 3547012

  • Yes, Jeep is cheaper than others like LRover.

Not the same interior and such. But it has more value pound for pound than a LR because its reliable. That "smoke" you saw was just steam evaporating with the water. Take a physics class. Water turns to gas when heated. Sorry if you were not aware of that fact. I apoligize for your ignorance.

  • Mate, you sound like tool!! The 4wd system is superior to most!! Best in It's class, only to be beaten by Jeep Rubicon, and Toyota's LC76, LC70 with true factory fitted diff locks!!

  • Yeah we have many South Africans in Australia, so I caught the accent too. I would rather a Land Rover myself.

  • uma merda esse video(fank you)..so aparece o homem(man, the video?????) of-road???..kd os testes????

  • Their South African not British

  • I love the color too. I have a 2004 Laredo with Select-Trac.(Grey)

But when Im ready to trade this will be at the top of my list.

  • I love to see the British test American Jeeps. It's great to see that not all of them are Land Rover propagandists. This film looked very objective. Im really surprised Land Rover wasnt mentioned during it. (I hope they dont work for Jeep UK!...lol)

  • I have to say that the people behind 4xforum have always been great at keeping things objective. and they test their vehicles with the idea that it should be the vehicle that gets you through the bush that will be their top pick. I personally have a ZJ 1997 5.2L V8 that I trust with getting my family and me 'out there' and back! Love JEEPS, respect Land Rover.
