  • @chimeara1855

Normally you just buy the t56 separately as a rebuilt unit because you don't want an abused tranny in a rocket like this. The best rear end to use is a ford thunderbird rear differential ( I think there a 7.8 ) these can easily handle 500HP and will take the abuse.

Take a look a "the banshee" from Stacy David's Gearz tv show its on YouTube and for the LSx swap in a miata Look into Flyin Miata they have a great kit for the LSx swap

  • i would put a 323 or a 273 gear in it.. t hat car is so light.. you dont really need low gear ratio.

  • @UtubeACCno1 i meant did u use the gearbox that came with that engine.T56.my car use the T5 gearbox.it can takes the torque of the CERBERA with over 420hp.i should be ok i guess.in the UK everyone is telling me how heavy is the T56.but for all the videos i've seen.it looks pretty easy to fit in Miata.so it should be alright in a TVR CHIMAERA.any help there.?

  • @chimaera1855 - I'm pretty confident that the T56 6 speed didn't come with the LS1 (may be incorrect) but T56s give an OUTSTANDING gear selection and power handling. The T5 is ok in terms of power handling but an off the shelf T56 by Hurst or comparable brands can handle around 700. If you get a good clutch and plan to produce around 500 HP, the T56 will handle dropping and shocking the clutch all day, if built to handle a bit more power than is given.

  • anyway it's insane... It's like putting a TL motor into a civic. 3.2 liters is more than enoug to be freakish in an EK hatch. . .

  • LS WON!

  • hi i plan to swap an LS1 in my TVR Chimaera.how hard was it to fit in an MX5 and how much did it affect the handling do u guys use the original gearbox which came with the engine ???tks for ur help

  • I see that reading comprehension is something that is way beyond your intelligence level. Please quote where I said "I think it's an LS1"

I did say "I think it was around 6500" I'm sorry I don't remember every shift point from every gear change every time I've driven the car.

If you truly believe that this 1994 Miata did not have an LS1, 3.73's, a T56, and 24.5" tires, I do not know what to tell you, other than you are a mongoloid who shouldn't be allowed to reproduce.

    kthxbye

  • Good response dude and awesome car

  • LOL

  • why are you worried about him reproducing, when your wife is on the pill?

  • and those 373's are killing you on the straight drags like this. Too much wheelspin. But then again, in a car that weighs that much, taller gears could also mean no go at all.

  • @RSXYYY lower gears can make a car spin less then like say a 3.73 /2.93 The taller 2.93 would allow the car to stay in it's rev range longer and spin the tires up even faster. Seems like it should be the other way around. And maybe on low powered cars ?Just because they have low HP & TQ and heavy weight to get moving. The low geared car may spin easier but not longer. Cause it runs out of RPM's fast. while the tall gear doesn't,.So it keeps on spinning as the RPM's rise .Crazy but It' true. yl

  • @ylism yea but in a car that weighs 2400lbs. (with any small block torque band), and a pitty lil wheelbase. The shifting of closer gears can add traction. having taller gears can cause more wheelspin, and more delay between shifts due to tire burning.

  • Lastly, before I bow out of this one so you flamers can flame and pretend like you matter, the only reason I came back to this weak thread is because someone cared enough to send me a personal reply to my statement(s). Glad I could get a rise out of one of you flatliners who just sit back and won't stand up unless there's more behind you. Truly, the more you guys talk, the smarter I sound... so, again, keep pretending. Someone takes you seriously: you and only you. Buh-bye, geniuses............

  • you suck joshcop608

  • So I get dragged back to this little shitvid? Funny how when I posted my comments intially, the vid description was "oh, I dunno, I think I was shifting around 6500, don't remember, don't remember much about the engine, think it was a LS1..." and now suddenly you remember your fuel settings, your gear ratios, your RPM at highway speed, your tire height, etc. If you were running 14" tires with 3.73s, an LS1, and a T56 in 2580 wet, this WOULDN'T be that video for that car.

  • Yeah, Been in the car personally, its a t56, use a gear ratio calculator and see that you "joshcopgearheadsince84" are wrong sir.

    thanks

  • Car was 2580, full tank of gas.

Motor was an LS1 from a 2002 F body. Healthy 300rwhp/tq on a Dynojet (have sheets,) with way too rich AF (not engine condition related)

Straight pipes, no cats, no mufflers, no crossovers

Car was on 24.5" tires, 3.73 gears. 6th gear was around 2k at like 70mph. Plenty of gear, enough tire. Seriously, don't speak about something you know absolutely nothing about. You sound like a fucking retard.

  • I really can't remember when I was shifting in this video. If I had to guess, I'd say 6000-6500RPM. But maybe not, who knows at this point :)

Transmission was a stock T56, rear end was a Ford 8.8", 3.73's. Tires were 185/60/14 up front (I think) and 205/55/14 Nitto NT555R drag radials in the back.

  • So you had 3.73s and dinky 14" tires? I'm guessing top speed was around, oh, 80 mph. .........

  • So you probably dont want to touch that miata...around 400 hp in a 2500 lbs car

  • I understand the math, genius. I've been a gearhead and an exotic-car enthusiast since around 1984. You don't understand my comment. It's like putting go-cart tires on a street car: yes, it's going to be quick, but it will run out of revs before any decent top speed. And since I got drawn back to this thread, I'm going to call BS on this one and say it's not an LS1......... doesn't sound healthy or like a typical LS1 to me.

  • i'll give you that...does sound different

  • @joshcop608 you're fucking stupid.

  • 6,000-6,500 ?? NO WAY. More like 5,100 to *maybe* 5,500.

  • i say he has some very close ratios fuck

  • car sounds sick...engine does not sound like a ls1...

  • Umm either really close ratios or really short shifts, he doesnt look to be going too fast at the end of the video

    but man, sounds so good

  • close ratios? that is an LS1 in a 2200 pound car

  • 2200 punds? Don't think so.

  • u got some close raitos there my friend

  • Sounds like you were short shifting a bit. Unless it's not an LS.

    Car sounds absolutely wicked though.

  • That sounded more like an LT1

  • hey, how many bhp does this beast have ????

  • nice

    how does it turn?

  • These kits keep 50/50 weight distribution actually. So it handles like it would stock. Minimal weight increase over all.

  • Ummm, id like to see some evidence of this.

  • ls1 is a really light motor

  • research the ls1 and the rest of the lsx family. aluminum block, plastic intake manifold. LSx's are fuckin awesome

  • maybe in an rx7 itll keep the weight the same...but im sure it weighs more than the miata stock motor and trans..even with a miata iron block

  • It's on the Monster Miata website.

    Search for it.

  • Also, you cant assume just because its bigger displacement it has to weigh more. Displacement is empty space. No weight there!

  • there was a thread on the miata forum long ago about this.. some one did a LS1 in there.. when he measured it, it was 52/48 and was just over 2600lb with a full tank of gas.

  • That was years ago, too. It's gotten better since then. With some work and suspension tuning, you can hit 50/50.

  • @Triple88a Was the car years the same on the forum because newer cars where more heavy than the older models. Just me be curious. Also depends on what was done to the cars while changing them over. So there could be a bit of weight difference between the two builds. I may had Ac the other no that sort of things. No two car will be the same unless built by the same people with the same parts. Hope this helps. Where is that forum so I can look up stuff. Thanks for your help, yl

  • @ylism the forum is miata dot forum dot net

they have an entire section on swaps. The chassis in general are about the same, the nb is a tiny bit heavier but its better reinforced so you dont need to make up in much extra parts to increase its strength. The car i had seen was an nb but i dont remember which year it was as at that time i had NA model and wasnt paying much attention to nb models

  • @Triple88a Thanks for the info. I do like the Miata's and want to see witch way is best to go for any performance use.. The forum you spoke of in your reply should help me in that area. Thanks again for your getting back so fast. Best, yl

  • @ylism the common way is to dump some boost on it with some work most people end up pulling about 300 whp which is more than enough on this thing

join miataturbo net its one good forum for boost

  • @Triple88a Thanks a bunch for all the info, and about the website. Best, yl

  • Your radar detector is pointing into outer space.

  • No joke, it might pick up something when pluto starts broadcasting Ka back down at Earth, oh wait nevermind the Ka detection on a cobra is all but non existent.

  • yeah it doesnt work too well. i get a lot of x band signals. the thing sucks mostly. but it did save me once. so thats a + for it. = )

  • i think i have the same radar detector

  • I'm sorry.

  • 3.73's in the rear.

Car is for sale. Will be posting a "For Sale" video soon.

  • Sounds like deep rear gears. What's the rear gear ratio?

  • I need a tissue and a new pair of pants?

  • How much power are you running? I have two mazda miatas and I am thinking of putting in a V8 that I has been in my grandmothers back yard for 20 years. I hope to be turning it into a 383 stroker.

  • Somewhere in the area of 320rwhp.

  • Wow... Very nice man. Wish I had one!
