  • Hmmmm, If only it was a solid, durable rear axle? You know what else would help? How about an actual frame to hook it up to? Oh wait, they had something like that, it was the Caprice. How about GM forget about the pieces of shit they have been putting out since '97 & just bring back what was actually working for them; retrofit with some of the new technology of course. As far as my personal opinion goes, getting rid of the B-bodies was GM's dick move of the [20th] century.

  • That, my friends, is what we like to call a powerful V8! Nice car dude!

  • It's a GM, whatdaya expect?

  • @M1911A1

It's not just GM. All manufacturers face issues with wheel hop in performance cars.

Ford mustangs and dodge challengers have bad wheel hop also. Even Diesel Golf's get bad wheel hop in the rain.

GM has actually done research and cured the problem in the 2nd gen CTS-V's and Corvette ZR1 by using drastically different diameter axle shafts so that each shaft has a different torsional natural frequency.

Get some horsepower in your little Corolla and I guarantee you will have it too.

  • @toejambfutbol ROFL WIN.

  • @ 2:55 james bond /tom cruise mission impossible style of angle shot just happen.

  • All of us first gen CTS have this issue. its not called traction control, its called wheelhop, you morons. LOL When its low traction, the back end feels like its bouncing / hopping around. The V guys get it worse because 400hp can make traction difficult in any situation, but us V6 guys get the same issue, especially in the wet. Learn to read the comments from over 3 years ago, before you post "traction control".

  • turn the traction control off n00b

  • have you resolved this issue? i would be guessing it may be tires, what do you have on for the vid?

  • @fallbutlive

This video was filmed with stock suspension and stock tires (245/45/18 Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar EMT)

I got rid of most of the wheel hop by installing Spectre Works Cradle Bushings, BMR Trailing Arms, and BMR pinion support. It will definitely still wheel hop in very low traction situations. I also have 265/40/18 Kuhmo Ventus V12 evo K110 tires now.

The new CTS-V's and Corvettes have fixed this problem by having different sized axle shafts from the differential.

  • REPLACE YOUR TRAILING ARM BUSHINGS FOR SOME STRONGER BUSHING LIKE POLYURETHANE. The wheel hop is commonly caused by bad trailing arm bushings. The wheel is jumping back and fourth: toe in and toe out, toe in and toe out, doing it rabidly causes the effects of hopping. PROBLEM SOVLED. :)

  • The first launch I say to myself "Oh the wheelhop ain't that bad..." and then continue watching for "Oh shit... that ain't good."

  • ok so idk much about this but just to make sure the wheel hop happens ar 1:46, 2:01, 2:12, and 2:55 right?

  • HUH?? how can i tell if this Traction Control issue or just Wheel Hoping?

    someone tell me

  • that rear subframe is quite flexible

  • It fell off at the end. :) Nice video man.

  • That camera's got balls.

  • there went the back camera....

  • those wouldnt happen to be Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires would they? I had some on my Challenger and it wheel hopped so bad at launch. after i finally roasted them off i went to a Hankook Ventus RH06 in a wider tire and guess what... no more wheel hop... and the Hankooks actually stick!

  • yup. classic wheel hop ;) bad bushings... look how much play there is in teh rear suspension.

  • the mustang doesn't have that problem lol

  • The Ford Mustang is a piece of crap compared to the Cadillac CTS-V. Also, GM fixed "Wheel Hop" on their newer vehicles such as the 2010 CTS-V, Chevy Camaro, Corvette ZR1, etc.

  • and is the CTS-V in the same class? I think not, its not even the same type of car. Took them long enough.

  • why dont we talk about how long it took the ford to get rid of their 4.6 POS excuse for a v8?

my point is that every car has its design flaws.

the CTS-V as well as my GTO both have axle hop issues. I'll take the fixable axle hopping irs over a sra in my DD any day just because it rides that much better. i'm not drag racing every time i get in my car.

  • wtf is wrong with my 4.6 there asshole

  • you mean besides that it flows like crap? nothing.

  • pre 99's how about how the connection between the drive shaft and the differential is cracking on the new camaro, and it has an ongoing list of quality problems. maybe gm need to watch how ford makes new age retro muscle cars for a couple more years then come out with another camaro hell i dont know what they're gonna do when ford changes the body style in 2012 they might have to discontinue it for a couple more years so they can catch up.

  • first off, you did not understand the point of my first comment. re-read it. i said every car has its design flaws. i only used the 4.6 as an example, and i'm fully aware of the fact that ford is coming out with a new 400hp motor-regardless of how long it took them. second, i dont care about whats wrong with the new camaro because i will NEVER own one. i'm thoroughly unimpressed with all of the retro muscle cars and i'm not a gm fan boy like you seem to be with mustangs. you done crying now?

  • ahhh i see why you were so butt hurt now. you OWN one of those slow gt's. poor guy. couldnt shell out for the termi, huh

and pre 99s were garbage- post 99s werent much better.

  • @Mahdi786FWE

the mustang is a piece of crap compared to most things lol

  • That's true! LOL

  • well considering its 15-20 grand more than the new gt-500 i would seriously hope its better.

  • I cant belive how much that moves

  • its it me or is the frame flexing more then normal from 1:59 to 2:03

  • ist this cts-v a first gen or the new one?

  • Looks like the video cam is gonna fall at 2:53 lol

  • lol yeah it does

  • cool angle, fun to watch..

btw did anybody see the wheel nearly buckle a 2:02? shit looked awful.

  • good god this is what my horrible cts v wheel hop looks like from under the car! yikes i need to get my kars III kit in pronto!!!

  • i hope you are a girl because i want stay under your car same as camera. i want live under your car

  • you are the longest neck i have ever seen

    nice car.

  • What kind of camera did u use i know its off topic...

  • change the tires to unidirectional tires.

  • Great video with a fresh perspective.

  • Nice Vid!

I think you can hear the tape burn in the last part. Taped onto the exhaust/muffler? haha

    NemSSCamaro: what are A arms?

  • didnt they have a recall for the wheel hop on the cts-v?

  • does the cts-v have an IRS?

  • yes

  • Does it look like it has a live axle?

  • No, why would you ask that? It clearly has an IRS. jerk

    backfire much?

  • delightfully retarded? good one man. why dont you go end your life for having such horrible comebacks. Im serious. I bet you think im just trying to insult you, but I really would like you to go kill yourself. I would suggest using a gun.

  • wow

  • Good god..wtf people lol. (Although i found the delightfully retarded bit quite funny)

  • wow, my cts -v with the traction control off burns out.

    What is a wheel hop?

  • it's called wheel hop, not traction control broseph. The traction control is off.

  • stiffer springs and shocks, and find ur self a set of tubular A arms for the rear and it should help ALOT

  • Great video and good research! Too bad the mounting point on the second half looking at the diff from the rear wasn't a bit more stable like the first half of the vid so we could see exactly what is going on. But still, this video is a great "what is wheel hop" explanation and shows me what my CTS-V is doing when all hell breaks loose back there! :-)

  • I have an 05 cts-v and the wheel hop is very apparent when the traction control is turned off. If I really get on it, it will do it through 1, 2, and very little in 3rd gears... Do you know what would better control this or is it just inevitable in the V's?

  • You can buy anti wheel hop kits, they're not that expensive. If you'll notice in this video how much the rear cradle deflects and moves around - the anti-wheel hop kit replaces all of those bushings with stiff ones and also a couple other stiffened members to keep the wheels from bouncing all over.

  • Yes, but won't the ride be even stiffer then? I hard about carbon injected poly bushings.. are there better types to use?

  • thats cuz tc monitors the driven wheels. when it senses a slip it does what it can to get grip
