@Naim268 well backtrack 5 is out now, but these work like a charm on BT5, they also have a choice of a direct download and a torrent. You also can dual-boot seemings how bt itself if run off of Linux which has a built in dual-boot preference in its installer just as long as you have some UN-allocated space on your hard-drive or Free space where a volume WOULD go if you had one. My easiest and fastest partitioner i think is the Windows, rite click on computer from start menu and click management!

one good question... I was using ettercap on my vista computer just like you did in this video. I tried Looking at my whole network leaving the // // blank. I was able to get my friends User name and Pw that is running on windows. But when i tried doing it to myself on my Ubuntu box. It didn't work is it because Linux is well protect for MITMA? or is because my vista computer couldn't handle all the connections? I'm guessing that my vista computer couldn't handle the connection of every one

yes you can , and if you're a begginner use ettercap in graphical mode , its so easy

install a linux distribution and type ; apt-get install ettercap in a shell or search it with the "logytheque" ...enjoy ...i've already tried that , picked up an apache server loggin and password

for network activity sniffing ;WIRESHARK is quite cool for watching all the requests , data traffic , username and all that stuffs ...

ETHERAPE allow you to see the network traffic in a graphical way ,

if you wanna see all the open ports on your network's computer you also have ZENMAP (graphical app) or NMAP (in command lines)

but if you wanna see the password it's another story ...maybe a telnetbruteforce should be appropriated .... ;-)

ipconfig shows a list of networking interfaces so you know which one to use (eg. eth0, eth1 etc.).

Im pretty sure it does anyway. Been a year since ive used backtrack for anything until now.

One quick question though, you specify the -p parameter with these programs which tells the nic to NOT go into promisc mode... I was under the assumption that you would have to put the nic into promisc mode so that all data is recieved by the nic.

I had problems getting it to work the way you said (was only monitoring traffic on my own localhost pc) but when i took out the -p it worked fine. I suppose whatever works for you lol

I'm using one laptop to monitor the other. urlsnarf works fine, but I can't get driftnet or ettercap to work properly. drifnet only stores images from the laptop I'm using and not the target laptop and I can't get ettercap to work at all. @fsfsd12: I know what you're asking 1) cracking a WEP that's not yours is illegal 2) Logging into their network & monitoring to steal data is even more illegal!. But yes its possible & easy if you have good network knowledge. Since your intent is illegal. I won't explain how to do it.

I think you're missing the point... it's all well and good to practice skills on your own network legally. Quite another to cross the line and break the law by breaking into & monitoring systems they don't own or have legal written permission to.

BackTrack is for pen testers. very much a self taught field. All the information is out there to find and learn the tools in BT. You just have to do a lot of reading and trial and error. Too many want to use it to "hack" without proper knowledge.
